Thank you NetGalley and HarperAudio Adult for the audiobook arc!

I think Elliot Fletcher may have converted me to read only the Scottish variety of contemporary romance from here on out! The banter between our two main characters is unmatched and refreshing in a market saturated with enemies-to-lovers that attempt to achieve what Fletcher has with this entry to The Macabe Brothers series.
This novel works in balancing our characters personal conflicts with their attraction to one another, however a bit of that tension is lost in the end and some minor plot lines do not payoff or reach their end a bit too quickly.

I found the narrators Russ Bain and Rebecca McClay charming and add an air of authenticity to the read despite a bit of mismatch in their reading speeds. I will certainly be suggesting the audiobook edition to friends and patrons.

I loved this narration, the accents were fantastic and added to the atmosphere of this book and story. I really loved how we knew that Callum was down bad for Juniper from the very get-go. I love their banter and their back and forth so much. I love how much Callum is always there for Juniper regardless of her hesitancy and her own rules of never even thinking of a McCabe brother. Juniper is a true to herself and her character black cat. She was so snarky and funny and, at times, grumpy. I saw myself in her personality and couldn’t help but root for her around every turn. I absolutely adored the authors writing and can’t wait for more in this series.

Loved to see this series continue with Juniper and Callum's love story. The flashbacks were insightful about how Callum could have carried his unrequited love and internal conflict for his brother's ex all those years. I also love a good black cat & golden retriever pairing. While their love story was slow, it did burn hot. Great narration as well.

It's not you, it's me.

I feel terrible that I had to DNF this audiobook, but I do plan to go back and read this as an ebook. Scottish accents make me swoon and I usually have no problem listening to audiobooks with accents, however this one was a bit hard to follow. I didn't want it to get in the way of the story, so I think it's best that I restart this with reading instead of listening.

I requested this title based on the description of this book and still think it sounds like an amazing read.

Again, it's not you, it really is me!

When I saw I got to hear Callum and Juniper I was beyond excited! It did not disappoint! The narrators brought these characters together beautifully! Hearing Callum say Harpy 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 I loved this book and it was perfect audio! Please everyone needs to read this one and absolutely get the audio to go along with it! I already miss them !!

DNF at 62%. I really gave this book a chance, but it felt like nothing happened plot wise. The best scene was by far the cow poo scene. But after that, I became bored. I think I just stayed so long because I enjoyed the narrators’ Scottish accents.

I was pulled into this book with the beautiful cover but also the forbidden love aspect of the story. Juniper was engaged to Callum’s brother. The banter was amazing between these two. I also loved the setting of the book in Scotland. Juniper is back on the Isle of Skye running a B&B and Callum is the only one who can help.

The audiobook was narrated by Russ Bain and Rebecca McClay. The Scottish accents really set the bar high and immersed me into this story. I loved the banter, chemistry and tension that came across in their voices. It was a really fun listen.

- although this book has a sweet name & I do like the cover.. most of the time this was background noise. The time line seemed a little off to me, there wasn’t much plot & the spice scenes gave me the ick, they almost felt very childish? idk, wasn’t my jam.

Also, had a hard time figuring out who was talking bc the narrators never changed voices to pretend.. or at least didn’t do it very well. & the Scottish accent..

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC/ALC.

Scotch on the Rocks by Elliot Fletcher | ALC Review

Thank you Elliot Fletcher and NetGalley for this ALC! I love this series; the setting, the characters, the storylines, all of it made me inhale both books, and cannot wait to see Alistair's book!

4.5⭐️//2🌶️

The black cat x golden retriever trope was so perfectly done in this book! Juniper, (the black cat, who owns a black cat) and Callum the golden retriever-ish veterinarian (how very fitting!) are amazing together. I loved their dynamic from the very first chapters, and the audio made it that much more amazing. I love how prickly Juniper is, and that she makes Callum work for her time, attention and affection, and I absolutely loved how willing he is to give it all to her. The yearning and the adoration he has been harboring for her for years is so precious. The tension between Juniper and Callum is sooo good, and it doesn't help that their relationship has that forbidden aspect to it.

I simply adored how tender and kind they were with one another, and how they were giving each other room to grow into their feelings, without becoming too overwhelmed. All the emotional weight and pressure they each carried from their families, has brought them closer together, and lean on each other in time of need. I loved how Callum gave Juniper all the space she needed, and how easy it was for him to prove to her that he loves her, unconditionally and without any reservations. These two have my heart, and they are absolutely one of my favorite fictional couples.

Favourite scene: Handyman Callum 💗
Favourite 🌶️ scene: Waterfall 🤭

I struggled a bit with the pacing of this one in the beginning, especially with the narrator's accents, I found Alistair's chapters to be unnecessary in getting the point across. The timeline jumping was confusing, but definitely figured it out after about 30%, so stick it out!

Aside from being a bit long, this was a great listen!

We love a down bad MMC and Callum was the poster boy for it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars

Opposites attract + off-limits romance + a cheeky Twilight shoutout (lolol)? Yes, Scotch on the Rocks by Elliot Fletcher has a lot going for it. The classic grumpy/sunshine (or should I say black cat/golden retriever?) dynamic totally worked for me. There’s something fun about watching two people who shouldn’t work fall completely for each other.

The dual narration was a highlight—I love when each character gets their own voice, and the accents added a nice layer of charm. That said, I did wish for just a bit more emotional depth from the narrators. A few of the heavier moments didn’t quite land because the delivery felt too even, and I think that kept me from getting fully swept up in the story.

To be fair, I didn’t read book one, so maybe some of the emotional connection or stakes were stronger if you’re coming in with that background.
Also? The Reenemise Twilight mention cracked me up. Absolute terrible idea in real life, but hilarious in fiction. lololol

What I really appreciated was the honest depiction of caring for a parent with dementia. It wasn’t the central plot, but it added a real-world weight to the story, and I respected how Fletcher acknowledged the emotional toll that kind of care can take.

All in all, a decent romcom with some sweet (and spicy) moments, a bit of heartache, and a charming pair of opposites you’ll root for—even if you occasionally want to shake them. Would I read more in this series? Possibly, but I’ll start from book one next time.

Elliot Fletcher nailed this narration. Smooth, sexy, and full of edge—Scotch on the Rocks had me completely hooked. The story is a blend of grit and heart, and the audio performance just made it even better. Loved every second.

Text-
I freaking loved Callum. Like new book boyfriend goals. There’s something to be said for a man that falls that hard that fast.

Some of the family stuff got a bit heavy and had me tearing up.

Audiobook-
Love that they got actual Scottish voice actors for his. If I eyeball read this I wouldn’t have given them accents and that really would have been a shame. It’s duel narration and I think they both did a really good job. I was definitely feeling the accents. 😍

I really wanted to love this one, and please don’t let my review steer you away from it as so many other readers have loved it!

The tropes caught my attention, but I had a hard time believing their emotional connection outside of the physical connection and steam. I think it’s hard because the MMC had been pining for years so we didn’t get to watch him fall as we typically would. The premise was good and I enjoyed the narrators, it was just a case of this book not being for me.

This book was SO FUN and emotional!
The story itself is everything I could have hoped for this second time around the lovely Isle of Skye. The characters are vibrant and unforgettable, the world-building is rich and immersive, - and realistic! The romance is equal parts tender and hard, both frozen and scorching hot. It’s the kind of book that grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go until you’ve devoured every last word. The emotional depth, the witty banter, and the sheer unadulterated need for these two to just admit their own feelings and get together! The plot comes together at the end to create something truly special, and after the roller coaster that is Callum and Juniper, I really needed it to be.

Alexa, play “You Should Probably Leave” by Chris Stapleton. Because WOW, I devoured this book.

Forbidden love? Check. Brother’s ex-fiancée? Double check. A hero who’s completely down bad and calls her Harpy (and somehow makes it sound like the most affectionate nickname ever)? SOLD.

From page one, the banter is absolute fire. The tension between Callum and Juniper could snap steel. He takes her hiking (swoon), wears a kilt (double swoon), and basically whimpers for her in the best way possible. This man is hopeless for her—and it’s delicious.

Juniper is all black cat energy: snarky, guarded, deeply funny, and incredibly relatable in her insecurity. She’s been through it. But Callum? He sees her, truly sees her, and shows up for her again and again.

Their chemistry was off the charts, but what really got me was how much they helped each other grow. This wasn’t just about passion—it was about healing, too. Funny, tender, emotionally layered, and just the right amount of spicy.

Oh, and the audiobook? Perfection. The Scottish accents were everything, and I couldn’t hit pause even once.

I LOVE DOWN BAD MEN

callum has been yearning for juniper for so long, and i loved every single moment!!! not to mention, it's reverse grumpy x sunshine!! she's a black cat and he can't get enough. this book started SO strong for me, the flashback left me with my jaw on the floor. i'd also like to take a minute to appreciate the banter!!! they had me giggling and kicking my feet!

i really enjoyed the audio. i will note that i don't typically listen to audiobooks with heavy scottish accents so i did find myself slowing down the playback speed (i usually listen on 2x) not that that's a bad thing, however i think i would have enjoyed it more if i had the ebook to follow along with. all of this to say, i thoroughly enjoyed this performance. the narrators were exactly what i would have expected. i loved them!!

Callum fell in love with Juniper as soon as he saw her on a train platform. It was a suprise when he found out he was too late and she was engaged to his brother. Now years later and long after their engagement was broken he has another chance but will their past stop them from trying to be together?

I was skeptical about the brother's ex thing but I loved it! Such a cute book and I love Callum and Juniper together. Juniper was such a fun character, strong but vulnerable and great at standing up for herself. The spice was awesome and I wish I could go stay at the property! I need to go back and read the first book now, looking forward to Alistair's HEA too!

I adored the written copy of this book (I rated it 5 enthusiastic stars!) but if anybody were to ask me to choose I would recommend the audio! All of the incredible yearning and tension and build up PLUS an accent? Perfection. No notes.

Holy cow. This series is a MUST READ series! If you love the Highlander, Scottish romance trope you will eat this right up! And if you love the Scottish accent then you absolutely have to listen to the audiobook! Yummy.

This author blew me away. Again! The romance is steamy. The romance is angsty and lusty and everything you could hope for all packed into this book.

I laughed, I almost cried and I swooned. I’m also a huge fan of the ex that regrets letting her get away and new guy steps up and shows him how she deserves to be treated trope.

He falls WAY first too! Eeeeee! Read this now! Spice is about a 3/5 for me.

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review. It was honestly my pleasure!

And thank you Elliot Fletcher for writing such a banger! Made my day! I hope there’s more! ❤️

PS: The Cover Artwork is delicious in this entire series so far!
