Another 5 star read from L.G. Davis! There were plenty of surprises and twists that I didn’t see coming. This book was very fast paced and I read it so quickly because I wanted to see what was going to happen next!

So many thrilling twists in this book. Absolutely loved everything about this book. I can not recommend t highly enough. A must read of 2025!

Not His Wife is an extremely on-the-edge page turner!

When Cora opens her eyes, she learns she's been in a coma. She can't remember anything or anyone. The man who claims to be her husband is clearly hiding something but, what? Is Cora getting to close to the truth?

This book was so visual, I could feel I was right there with all the characters, witnessing all the twists and turns!

And that ending... WOW

Not His Wife is an engaging, fast paced psychological thriller read even though it was somewhat predictable. I enjoyed reading it. While some scenes, like the one involving the cops felt unrealistic. The story kept me hooked with its many 'what is going on?' moments. When everything finally falls into place, the reveal is truly shocking!

L G Davis creates the most fast-paced, unpredictable, twisty-turny, psychological thrillers. This was the third book I have read by Davis, The Widow’s Cabin and The New Nanny, were the others, and I was utterly absorbed as much with this one as I was the first. I was instantly hooked from the moment I started reading. Every time I had to put the book down I was already eager to get back to reading it again. It was that addicting.

I loved how Davis didn’t waste any time diving into the intricate inner lives of the characters. She immediately explored well-developed, complex, and relatable characters making this narrative that much more gripping. As the story moved forward Davis skillfully delved into the characters fears, anxieties, motivations, and mental states. It was mind boggling how she had me constantly pondering who to trust and who not to trust.

Aside from the extremely interesting and flawed characters, the plot twists and misdirections were skillfully crafted. There was an abundance of intrigue and surprising elements throughout. Even more, the story’s mood was filled with tension and unease. I loved the descriptive dialogue and symbolism throughout the story. It created a foreboding tone and reinforced the theme of mental illness and moral ambiguity.

Davis is an under the radar author in the psychological mystery- thriller genre. Having read three five star psychological thrillers by L G Davis to date, she is officially one of my favorite authors. Unquestionably, Davis has a talent for generating deeply immersive and unsettling psychological thrillers. Davis’s writing plays on the reader’s psychological vulnerabilities and engages them in the characters’ turmoil and the unraveling mystery of her novels. I highly recommend Not His Wife to those who love a fast paced, unpredictable, twisty-turny psychological thriller.

I was hooked from the start and couldn’t put it down.
The twists were absolutely breathtaking and I will be bingeing all of L. G. Davis’ books now.
If you like books with multiples twists that will keep you guessing until the end then I highly recommend Not His Wife.

Unfortunately I didn’t really care for this book. The plot is overdone lately and it seemed pretty “red flagish” to me. I basically skipped to the back to find out the truth. Wasn’t interesting enough to me in the middle. The ending was a good twist.

What kind of drug is this book!? I read it in a single day. Normally, I don’t enjoy this type of book because once I manage to figure out who the culprit is or what’s going to happen I start finding the story boring but this one shut me right up.

This book had my heart pounding the entire time. I haven’t felt this much anxiety in a long time, it had me hooked from start to finish.
The characters made me suspicious of everyone and I was so frustrated with the MC because she kept doing things I would never do in that kind of situation 😂

I can’t wait for this book to be published, I truly believe it’s worth reading

While she struggles to regain her memory, she notices several strange happenings, including the disappearance of the original owner of her and Evan's home. Determined to get the answers to the many questions swirling around in her head, she forges ahead with her own investigation.

This book was everything you'd want a good domestic thriller to be. There is no shortage of twisty darkness, lies or deception, leaving the reader second guessing themselves. The ending was even better than I imagined. I highly recommend this book to domestic suspense lovers. It's a real page turner.

I really enjoyed this book. I raced through it in record time!
At first I thought it was going to be similar to other books where the wife has lost her memory.
This was just so different and with massive twists that I didn't expect.

I recommend.

So much potential… but too many plot holes.

A woman wakes up from a coma — at home. Not in a hospital. Not under any kind of medical supervision. Just… in a bed, next to a man she doesn’t recognise, who calmly tells her he’s her husband. What hospital discharges someone who’s still in a coma?!

From there, the story demands a lot from the reader in terms of suspension of disbelief.

We soon learn this so-called “husband” is a psychologist who specialises in manipulating people’s sense of reality. Red flags, anyone? But instead of wondering if she’s been kidnapped or manipulated, the main character becomes obsessed with a journal entry from an elderly “relative” with dementia… about a missing sewing machine. That’s her clue something might be off. Not the total amnesia. Not the unfamiliar house. Not the random man claiming to be her spouse. The sewing machine. Sorry, TOO WEIRD!

Then there’s the “birds chirping” in the basement — which turns out SPOILER to be a woman whistling. While locked in a basement. Not screaming or shouting HELP. Just… cheerfully whistling like she’s freaking Snow White??? Sorry, not buying it!

The psychologist angle had the potential to be really dark and interesting, but the story doesn’t go there. Instead, it focuses on some pretty weird scattered breadcrumbs that never really add up. The logic continues to unravel — we’re supposed to believe a doctor went along with this plan, and that a building contractor overlooked a hidden basement, and somehow the whole town confuses Gabriella for Cora despite no clear resemblance being included in the narrative?

The premise was great, and I wanted to love this. But in the end, it felt like a thriller held together with loose threads. Too many plot holes. Too many “Wait, what?!” moments. All the ingredients were there for something chilling and clever — but for me, it just didn’t land.

Wow, this was absolutely brilliant - a clever and gripping plot, and packed with a load of shocking twists and turns. One of the best books in a long time, I loved it!

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. Wow! What did I just read? If I could give this book more stars, I definitely would do it. I'm reading along enjoying this thriller and then I get halfway and omg did it change! It was so gripping until the very last sentence in the book. That's what I love about this author. The last sentence or paragraph always makes you think what the heck? I highly recommend

One of the worst things a person can experience, in my opinion, is waking up and not being able to remember anything. You're completely dependent on the people around you because your mind feels like a dark room where someone locked the door and threw away the key. You're on edge, because you sense that something isn't quite right, yet you can't pinpoint what exactly is going on. What you do know is that you want to get to the bottom of the hornet’s nest you've landed in.
This is the situation Cora finds herself in at the beginning of this thrilling book. She has several pieces of the puzzle, but when she tries to put two and two together, the result is not four. Quite the opposite…

And just like that, I was drawn deeper and deeper into the story, as if I had stepped onto swampy ground. Cora finds clues, but, just like me, she couldn’t make heads or tails of them.

That someone belonged on my list of untrustworthy characters was obvious, but what this person’s goal was—I had no idea.

The only thing I could do was wait for the moment Cora would suddenly unlock the door to her memory and finally release us all from our suffering. ;)

If I had to answer the question of why I love reading books by this author, I wouldn't need to think twice. She always manages to sweep me along with her creativity and the effortless way she puts her ideas into words. Her stories move me, and her plot twists are to die for.

So for me, this is another bullseye in the five-star category.

This was a heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat it was definitely one of the best books this year! It was fast paced, edge of the seat thriller that was extremely well executed. I was gripped from the very first page!

I loved the characters and the storyline. I recommend reading this book straight away definitely 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book had it all it was a wild ride of lies and deceit that had many twists and turns which lead to a great but shocking finale!

I’m not sure how I feel about Not His Wife by LG Davis. I thought the premise sounded great…but then it fell a bit flat for me. The reader has to be willing to swallow several pretty far fetched things.

Starting with— a girl wakes up with amnesia and is told the man with her is her husband. Despite not recognizing him, her supposed home or her own name, she just…goes with it. (Not to mention, what hospital would release a still comatose patient)? She learns her husband is a psychologist who works with convincing the mind things are real that aren’t….and this doesn’t make her stop and think…hmmm…could I be kidnapped and I’m not who he says? But instead, her biggest worry is solving the mystery of the missing sewing machine that a lady with dementia wrote about in her journal?? THAT is what makes her think something is wrong? She hears “birds singing” in the basement…sorry, but why on earth would a woman locked in a basement just occasionally whistle like a bird hoping someone hears her instead of screaming her head off?

I feel like the book could have been good…but that the wrong things were focused on. I find it hard to believe they could convince a dr to go along with this plan, plus apparently also a contractor who saw the basement.

Unless Gabriella and Cora are secret twins, people in town who knew Cora should have easily known that she wasn’t really Cora. The neighbor who delivers milk knew the real Cora, how didn’t she notice when a different one popped up? If the photos of fake Cora were photoshopped, then how didn’t Cora’s real family and friends know since those pictures were all over her Facebook account, and real Cora’s sister must have seen them since she messaged her. There are just too many plot holes and just too much suspension of disbelief in my mind. It’s like the author wanted to throw every twist and turn she could think of into a bowl, mix them together, and thought hey that’s great.

The ending is a perfect example of this. It’s like the author said, but wait! Here’s one more!

Do not start reading this book if you have something to do, I literally could not put it down and kept sneaking chapters while I was at work!

The premise for this one was super interesting and what made me want to read the book, and I was not disappointed. I was immediately gripped by the story and the blossoming mystery.
The creepy vibes were definitely there- as I was reading, I felt unsettled by everything and everybody- I very much got uncanny valley vibes and was convinced that every single character was psycho in some way or the other (I trusted no one). I think the author did really well describing Cora's paranoia and sense of unease since I felt these emotions so clearly as I was reading. She did wake up with amnesia with a strange man up in her business - I would have been scared and running.
Cora herself was more likeable than I thought she would be. There were some moments where I wanted to grab her and shake her (why are you believing the sketchy man? Or letting him try to dictate your every move like a kindergartener??) but I appreciated that she was not completely gullible or fooled and held her own ground at times.

In regards to the direction the plot took- yes one could say that it is all a bit unrealistic and far-fetched. However. I think it worked! Seeing as there were 2 of the 3 main characters had memory fog of some sort, and the third was a man, it wasn't hard to believe that some nefarious scheming was being concocted. All the storylines tied up rather well, and though some of the conclusions felt abrupt for how much focus they had through the book (like Margaret), I didn't really have any burning questions by the end. It was very satisfying, and while I predicted some of the plot twists, I didn't quite get them all.
I will say that the 'final' plot twist did feel a bit... unnecessary? I get why it was there, but it felt tacked on. Ultimately, I didn't mind it (nor did it lessen my enjoyment)

Overall, this was a quick (because I could not put it down), fun read. Would recommend to fans of domestic thrillers!
