I read the ebook while listening to the audiobook. Kacie Rogers did a phenomenal job telling this story. There was also a brief story told by a different narrator, Jim Frangione. Kacie's voice fit the character of Rosie and she did a great job voicing the male characters when needed. She definitely helped elevate the experience.
Regarding the story, it was amazing to be back in this world. Megan Bannen has created such a unique world with so many interesting characters. I absolutely adored the first two books in this series. I will say this was my least favorite of the trilogy, but I still had a fantastic time.
I didn't feel as connected to Rosie & Adam as I did with the other leads in books 1 and 2. Rosie is immortal and in her mid one hundreds, but I felt some of the things she said were a little juvenile - referring to her boobies, etc. I also felt this book had a bit of insta love - Adam and Rosie didn't really know each other, but spoke after less than a week like soul mates, and how they were in love. I just didn't truly believe in their relationship moving so quickly based on how Adam's character was described.
Duckers & Zeddie are my favorite characters and although I love how we got more of them in this story I would love a full novel about their relationship.
Lastly, I loved the ending of this book - it was the perfect end to the series and made this whole book worth it.
I will read anything Megan writes.

4⭐, 2.25🌶️
As a non-fantasy loving girly (I can enjoy one every few months) Ive really enjoyed the Hart and Mercy trilogy! I love the crossover of this book with Hart and Marcy and Twyla and Frank's charcaters and just thought the drynamic of Rosie and Adam was so fun! The forced proximity for these two at first creates a fun found family group, but then we get MORE forced proximity with the two of them and thats when the chemistry kicks in. I will say I didn't feel the romance as a major plot in the book since the "trapped" plot was more present, but I really enjoyed Rosie and Adam's characters, their background stories, and how this book ended. It was a fun journey to follow along and I had a blast listening.
Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Audio for an ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

I really enjoyed this adorable third book in the Hart and Mercy series. I just adored the sunshine/grumpy dynamic between Rosie and Adam and it was really fun to see many of the characters from the other books make appearances in this one.
Kacie Rogers does a really nice job of narrating the story. She has a nice voice and really does a good job with the other character’s voices as well. There were a few times that I felt like her voice got a little to young sounding for Rosie, but not enough that it really bothered me. I just sort of noticed it, especially toward the end of the story. Jim Frangione only had one chapter, which told the story of Adam’s life, but he did a solid job with it.
I loved Rosie and thought she was a great character. She is immortal which she finds lonely and depressing at times, especially after one of her deaths. But I loved that she had such a sunshiny disposition most of the time. I adored the fact that she was really into expensive intimate apparel. The descriptions of that apparel were wonderful and I could really picture them in my mind.
Adam was also a great character that I really enjoyed. I loved how unemotional he appears at the start of the story, but you soon realize that he is just very guarded around others. He also has a great, although very dry, sense of humor. I loved learning his backstory and how it was related to the old gods in the story. I just wish, as I always do with romances, that we got to see what was going on in his head during the story. I would have loved to see some of his thoughts about Rosie.
Even though I still want Duckers and Zeddy to have their own story, I was so glad to see them both in this book. They are just so cute together and they both really shined in this book.
The world building was pretty light, although we do learn a bit more about the gods in this story. This is the third book in the series and we pretty much know all there is to know about the world at this point. This could be read without reading the first two books, but I really don’t recommend it. You would find the world very confusing if you started here. The dialogue and the story were fabulous. I was really happy that the dragons got to play a role in this story as well.
If you have enjoyed the first two books in this series then this one is probably already on your TBR. I am pretty sure that you will enjoy it. If you haven’t yet started on this wonderful cozy romantasy series, you really needed to go read the first one, The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. This is a wonderful series that I highly recommend to any who loves a good romance.

Three stars ☆☆☆
This was a tough rating choice for me; on one hand the characters were great, the writing was fun and the plot was good! But, on the other hand, it was way way too insta lovey for me. It all happened so quick and it felt rushed and not natural (in a make believe world, I know). If the timeline was more realistic it would get a higher rating as it is one of my personal pet peeves, but otherwise I enjoyed it! The conflict and conflict resolution was tense and kept me wanting to continue the story, and the side characters were lovable. Although, I do wish they were just a tad bit more mature as the bickering seemed childish, I did forget that it was years in the future from the first book.
The narrator was fun and really embodied the character, I would definitely look out for more of their work. The narration was fluid and I felt I was really immersed in the story, so that gains a star from me. Also the switch to the male narrator for the story really made it immersive.
tt rtc!

I loved this book! And it was so much fun to return to the world of Tanria again and see what happened to the others from the previous books. While it is absolutely possible to read this standalone book, you get even more out of it if you read the other two first. I love the relationship between Rose and her work partner Duckers, the lighthearted banter, but especially their care for each other and all their friends. The romance between Rose and Adam was also nice. The whole book gives me a cozy feeling, even though they need to solve the problem of being stuck in Tanria in a pretty drastic way.
The audiobook narrator was really good, with different voices for the characters, it suited the book well.
I highly recommend this one!

Thank you so much to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for this ALC of The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam.
Whoever does the cover art for this series seriously does a phenomenal job. It always gives the perfect insight to what the book will be about. As for the story, I love this series so much! I’m kind of sad that I’ve finished it (at least until we find out if there will be more.)
I loved how the author brought back a huge part of the first book to help solve this problem they were facing. I knew Adam had to be involved somehow, I just couldn’t figure it out. Finally, Duckers is the literal best side character ever. He cracks me up! I’m glad he found happiness as well.
I listened to the audiobook and loved it as always.

I hope that this isn't a cap on a trilogy, I feel like this world is just starting to hit its stride. Picking up 12 years after Hart and Mercy's story, we are treated to a further dive into the world of Tanria, the history of the gods, and how their actions rippled over tow thousand years. Not to mention Bannen's humor is top-notch here, only added to by Kacie Rogers amazing narration. Rosie's somewhat careless attitude helped to cushion the blow of the story, adding additional much needed humor.
Everything about Rosie and Adam is bittersweet. Their pasts, their personal grudges, and their relationships with mortality (or lack there of). Opposites attract is an understatement but from the start yet these two fit each other so well and naturally. Their relationship felt natural, and as I have always loved since Hart and Mercy, like adults. Sometimes some of the language used felt a little too modern or seated too firmly in our reality, but for Rosie (and Duckers) it fits very well. With a focus on their shared loss, grief, and resilience they found in themselves and in the other, they feel more real, if not a tad emotionally painful.
As always the side characters almost stole the show. Gabo is a fantastic little stoner, Duckers and Zettie will always have my heart, and I'm glad we got a little more time with the other leads as well. Seeing their happily ever after's was very heart-warming and got me a little misty eyed.
We can't stay in the world forever, and while I'm hopeful for more stories - prequels or otherwise - to expand the lore of this world, I am so happy to have found it and been given the time we had. This series will never fail to make me happy in the most bittersweet way. Rosie and Adam were so much fun, and I'm already looking forward to reliving all the stories in Tanria!

Another great addition to the Hart and Mercy series. It delivered on all of the best parts of the series. Cozy, western, and fantasy. It really fleshes out this world more. Hopefully not the last but if it is the it's a good note to end on.

This was a very fun addition to the Hart & Mercy series. I appreciate the continued expansion of Tanria and Tanrian lore. Duckers (the real main character) is still providing comedic relief, and there are cameos by most every other character we’ve come to know and love by this point in the series. I listened to the audiobook, and found that the narrators brought the characters to life in new ways—even implying diversity that’s not written on-page by using accents and affectations. I thought Duckers really came to life in this audiobook, more so than the last two.
Rosie and Adam is a sloowwww burn with even less spice than the first two books, which isn’t a bad thing, just different. I did love the goofy, puppy dog love that Rosie had going on before they finally kissed, it was adorable. While I found the romances in the previous books to be more enjoyable, this book held its own with an interesting story, an evolving world, and a deeply annoying father figure.
Rosie is a very memorable FMC: 6’5”, red hair and red eyes, obsessed with high quality lingerie… oh, and she’s 157-year-old, red-eyed immortal whose dad just so happens the Trickster God. Next to no-nonsense, tight-lipped Adam who is 5’5” in shoes, Rosie kind of steals the show. There’s nothing wrong with that, we love a confident king who can let his queen reign—but Adam seemed more pivotal to the plot than to the passion.
I’d recommend this book to readers who enjoyed the previous books in this series by Megan Bannen, and also those who enjoyed The Spellshop. This story is lighthearted, set in a unique and immersive magical world, and with a touch of small-town charm.
Tropes: Lighthearted, cozy romantasy, slow-burn, grumpy/sunshine, taller FMC/short king, height difference, forced proximity, fated mates, lingerie.
Thank you to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview this audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What a beautiful addition to the Hart and Mercy world. I just love all of these characters, and I love how Megan Bannen writes them. Great plot, great banter, great book.

This was absolutely my favorite book in this series. I loved the other two books as well, but this one just hit differently. Rosie and Adam are adorable and weird. Duckers and Zeddy were so sweet. I just love them. This book was filled with heart and adventure.
The world building in this series is good. I just want more and more.

Rosie Fox can't die, or rather she can but she doesn't stay dead. She knows this is because of her divine parentage, as the daughter of the trickster.
When the portals that allow passage into Tanria begin to fail, Rosie sees something unusual within the machine.
They call in Adam Lee, the creator of the portals, to help solve the problem. But, this is no easy fix and soon Rosie and Adam are trapped inside Tanria with Rosie's partner, Penrose Duckers, and his exboyfriend Zeddie.
As they work to try to save themselves and Tanria, Rosie and Adam, two very different people, find themselves feeling more and more drawn together.
Kacie Rogers brought so much life to these characters: the exuberance and warmth of Rosie, the staid and careful manner of Adam, the heart and soul of Duckers, and the bratty but lovable Zeddie. Through Rogers the story takes on weight and personality. She is joined at times by Jim Frangione who comes in to tell stories and assist in building this beautiful world.
I loved the two previous books in this series and this book felt like the cherry on top of the series. Rosie is delightfully wild and pairing her with the calm and stoic Adam works better than it seems like it should. The story took twists and turns I did not expect and ended in a way I would have to call perfect. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was such a fun book to wrap up this romantasy series. Rosie, a Demi-god, keeps dying and coming back to life and this time she breaks down a portal and needs to work it Adam the inventor. They are total opposites and love them together.
They travel through four different places and we see their friends from the series in this book. I love Rosie's character and her sense of humor so much.
Jim Frangione and Kacie Rogers brought both of these characters to life through their narration.
Thank you @orbitbooks_us @hachetteaudio for the audiobook.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam by Megan Bannen
(Audiobook ARC via Hachette Audio & NetGalley)
This book completely stole my heart. From the very first chapter, I was hooked—and by the end, I was laughing, crying, and cheering for Rosie and Adam like they were old friends. Even though I haven’t read the first two books in the series, I had no trouble following along. In fact, I loved this one so much that I’m planning to go back and buy all three to start from the beginning!
Rosie Fox is one of the most brilliantly chaotic, funny, and emotionally grounded heroines I’ve ever come across in fantasy. Her existential dread, sharp wit, and deep longing made her unforgettable. And Adam Lee? His quiet brilliance, thoughtfulness, and absolutely mind-blowing backstory have made him one of my favorite fantasy love interests ever.
The grumpy x sunshine dynamic between Rosie and Adam is pure perfection—set in a world that’s wildly inventive yet weirdly cozy. And don’t get me started on the dragons—adorable, friendly creatures who cough up glitter and chirrup “meep meep” in the most delightful way!
Penny D (Duckers) and Zeti are the kind of friends every protagonist—and reader—should have. Loyal, fierce, hilarious, and full of heart, they added so much depth and warmth to Rosie’s journey.
The ending? Satisfying beyond words. Rosie and Adam finally get the closure and peace they deserve, and it left me with the happiest book hangover.
Huge shoutout to the audiobook narrator—who absolutely nailed the tone of this story. Their raspy impression of Adam was a standout performance that brought so much texture and charm to the listening experience.
Endless thanks to NetGalley, Hachette Audio, and Megan Bannen for the ARC. I’ll be leaving reviews on every platform I can and recommending this fantasy gem to everyone who will listen.

The third in this fun, magical romcom series, we’re now getting Rosie’s story (with appearances from series’ past faves). Rosie is a 6’5” immortal demigod in Tanria but is in desperate need of change. When she dies again in a portal and is brought back, she meets the portal’s inventor (and her opposite), Dr. Adam. As the portals begin to shut down, they’re stuck as the community evacuates, having to leave them behind. In their quest to escape the “Mist”, they start to fall for each other and the stakes are higher than ever.
I enjoyed the opposites attract style of this book and loved the reappearances of past favorites, but also didn’t connect quite as well with this novel as I did with Hart and Mercy. Still really enjoyed reading and am curious if we will get a book 4! I also really liked the narrators and they did a great job at bringing this story to life.
Thank you to Hachette Audio for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fantastic end to a stellar cozy romantasy series. I really liked this a lot and didn’t want it to end. Both Rosie and Adam were such endearing characters, and all of the other characters were as well. I loved our quirky demigod Rosie, and our quiet short king Adam. I enjoyed how much we got of Duckers in this one and getting to know Zeddie a bit more. The pacing was a little slow to start, but once it got going, I was fully invested and it was hard to put down! I loved the additional fairytale aspect of this one, and the role Rosie’s god dad plays in it. This really was such a wonderful blend of fantasy, humour and the macabre, that you won’t want to put it down. I love the way that it ended, and I definitely shed tears, which is just another sign that I loved it!
Last but not least, I listened to an audio version and the performance of the audiobook was marvelous. All in all a very satisfactory reading experience! HUGE Recommend.

3.5⭐️
Overall this was an enjoyable read but I did have a few issues with it! We follow Rose Fox, a demigod, who is kind of in a rut living the same life over and over again. When Rosie accidentally messes up the portal and dies (she’s immortal she comes back) she has to team up with Adam, the inventor of the portals, and her partner Duckers to fix the portals. While I liked Rosie and Adam working together throughout the book, it felt like their relationship progressed very quickly. I liked them as individual characters but wasn’t really sold on them as a couple as I was the previous couples in books 1 and 2. I really loved Zeddie and Duckers as side characters in this and found that I was more invested in them than the main couple. I loved the cameos from Hart and Mercy in this, they are my favorites!! Jim Frangione and Kacie Rogers do a fantastic job narrating this audiobook! This was my first time listening to them and definitely will not be the last! Overall, this was such a bittersweet ending to this series.
Thank you so much to Hachette Audio and Netgalley for the ALC!

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam by Megan Bannen was such a lovely surprise and an absolute joy to listen to. I gave it four stars, and honestly, it was so close to being a five — the story just hit all the right notes for me.
The romance between Rosie and Adam was beautiful — sweet, tender, and completely heartfelt. I adored their dynamic: the age gap was such a fun element (yes, I’m a fan, LOL), and the way she was bold and confident while he was shy and quietly charming made every scene between them feel so genuine and emotionally charged.
The side characters were just as delightful, and I really enjoyed their own little love story woven into the background. And that mystery element? Totally unexpected and yet so well done — it kept me engaged and added just the right amount of intrigue to the romance.
The humor in this book was another highlight. Megan Bannen has a gift for writing with warmth and wit, and I found myself smiling and laughing out loud more than once.
And I have to mention the narrators — they were fantastic! Their performances brought the characters to life so well, capturing all the emotion, awkwardness, and sweetness that made this story so special. The chemistry between the voices added even more depth to an already heartfelt story.
If you’re looking for a romance with charm, heart, a dash of mystery, and truly lovable characters, this audiobook is absolutely worth your time.

This latest installment of the Hart and Mercy series was a delightful return to Tanria. I appreciate the time jumps between books, which let us revisit favorite characters from prior installments as cameos while advancing the overall world of Tanria. Rosie and Adam’s story provides a deep dive into the religion of Tanria, and I really loved the exploration of the gods and their interactions with mortals. While Rosie and Adam weren’t quite as compelling as a couple as their predecessors, this book maintains the same emotional depth and humor. The ending is a perfect epilogue to not only Rosie & Adam’s story, but to the entire cast of characters Bannen has built over three books. For all things Tanria and Eternity related, this was a wonderful read.

2.5/5
I was a little disappointed by this installment. (spoilers for the first two books in this series included)
After meeting Rosie in the previous book, I was very excited to see the sassy demi-god cause some hijinks in this third book. Especially since Duckers became her partner and we ended with a the breakup of him and Zeddie. But unfortunately, the subplot of Zeddie's and Pen's romance was to the detriment to the story as a whole. Our attentions were split pretty evenly between the two couples when Rosie and Adam should have been shining. This was more evident due to the lack of any real plot throughout the book. Because it was so low stakes, I was pulled out of the story quite a few times because I was, frankly, bored.
I appreciated the perspective of a true immortal demi-god which kept me on my toes wondering about Adam's mortality and how they would make it work in the end if he was just a human. <spoiler>I didn't like that they ended up mortal at the end though. And honestly I don't know how I feel about another merciful god father redemption arc since we saw with Hart's God father already.</spoiler>
Adam and Rosie's romance was more upfront than past couples of this series which I liked, but overall it felt surface level. I liked Adam and Rosie individually but didn't connect to them as a couple. The story of the Briar Thief was fun but felt told/resolved at the end so quickly that I wasn't able to enjoy it properly.
This book, of the three, is my least favorite but I would still recommend this series as a whole. This last book provided closure to the entirety of the world and characters we've grown to love.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the ALC. All thoughts are my own.
