I loved Hart & Mercy and Twyla & Frank. Now I get to add Rosie & Adam to this list. And while I was maybe a little more excited about Pen & Zeddie in this story, that did not discount my adoration for Rosie and Adam. I really enjoyed watching their connection grow. I thoroughly enjoyed diving back into this world and really enjoyed the narrator in this audiobook. I didn’t want to stop listening and went back to it every chance I had. I’ll miss visiting Tanria and the world Megan Bannen built. Highly recommend this third (and final?) installment of the series.

Thank you Hachette and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Kacie was amazing as the immortal demigod Rosie! Her different voices conveyed the unique personalities of each character. I laughed out loud at the banter and humor! Adam’s brooding seriousness came across as endearingly dry and adorably awkward. This was a heartwarming, cozy story that spoke to my anxiety. Rosie and Adam’s relationship was the slowest of slow burns with realistic character growth and a satisfying payoff at the end.

Thank you so much to Megan Bannen, Orbit Books, Hachette Audio, and NetGalley for this ALC!

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a delightful listen that showcases Megan Bannen’s trademark wit and emotional depth — and the audiobook brings it all to life with flair. The narrators perfectly capture the chaotic charm of Rosie and the dry, quietly endearing energy of Adam. Their chemistry translates beautifully in audio, especially through the snappy dialogue and tender undercurrents.

The performance really enhances the humor — the comic timing is spot-on — but it’s the emotional nuance that truly lands. You feel every awkward silence, every moment of vulnerability, and it makes the slow-burn connection feel even more authentic.

A small deduction comes from occasional pacing inconsistencies — a few scenes that feel a bit rushed or tonally jarring in the delivery — but overall, it’s a highly engaging, emotionally satisfying experience.

If you’re into unconventional romances with whip-smart writing, layered characters, and voice actors who get the heart of the story, this audiobook is well worth the listen.

This was a really cute cozy fantasy—fans of Legends & Lattes will find a lot to love here. There's that same warm, whimsical vibe where the stakes are more emotional than epic, and the charm sneaks up on you.

I went back and listened to the first two books in the Hart and Mercy series before diving into Rosie and Adam’s story, and I’m glad I did. Characters from the earlier books pop up, and the extra backstory helped the world feel more lived-in. It’s not required reading, but it definitely added to my enjoyment.

Kacie Rogers nails the narration. Her performance has this sweet, gentle tone that fits the story perfectly—nothing too dramatic, just the right balance of heart and humor.

If you’re looking for something soft, romantic, and lightly magical, this one delivers.

4.5 ⭐️
I truly loved this book! It was semi insta-lovey but they still had the slow burn to actually acting on those feelings.

The constant back and forth of if plans were working or not really kept me entertained and invested!
I also LOVED how much time Duckers had to shine in this book and how his ending resulted 🥰🥰🥰

Their love was fun, especially with the twists that happened. This book had me laughing constantly. This felt the closest to how I felt reading Hart and Mercy since the series started!

Also so happy to have such full details of precious characters and watching how their stories evolved so many years after they started!

Thank you to NetGalley, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts are my own and are in no way influenced by early access to this title.

This one let me down.
I think the time jumps between books just don’t work for me. I adored Hart and Mercy, then Twyla and Frank and the community around them, but in this book it almost becomes a locked door book in the sense that we have a small cast with not much movement…

Normally this is great for found family, but I couldn’t connect to any of the characters - even Duckers who has always been the highlight for me.

Immortal demigod Rosie Fox has been patrolling Tanria for decades, but lately, everything has become boring. Especially when she keeps dying and coming back.

When all the portals begin to break down, uptight, stern inventor Dr. Adam Lee declares an emergency evacuation of Tanria. Unfortunately, Rosie and Adam end up trapped inside the Mist. Together.

I did not see the romance between Rosie and Adam even though I did find their interactions more steamy than the previous couples especially towards the end.

The book was boring despite the seemingly high stakes with boring repetitive activities and descriptions.
Sadly, this book felt like fan service to see the characters in one final book. A nostalgic hurrah that just really didn’t work.

Rosie Fox, demigod and a marshal of Tanria, is weary of immortality, and only in part because her immortal father the Trickster has been nothing but a thorn in her side for her 157+ years of life. When some poking around at a portal kills her by electrocution (again), Dr Adam Lee, the portals' inventor, must come to repair the damage. When his repairs can't quickly fix the portals, and all of Tanria must evacuate, that includes Adam, Rose, and her partner Penrose Duckers. Only, one person seems to have missed the evacuation order - Duckers's ex, Zeddie Birdsall - and saving him means that all four are trapped on the Tanria side of the portals with a growing infestation of shadowy plants and no way back home.

Megan Bannen has a knack for compelling characters, fun plots, ridiculous worldbuilding that stretches the imagination with each book, and for making me cry. Like Undermining of Twyla and Frank, this book focuses a little more on plot over romance, but the romance creeps in, like the vines growing all over Tanria. It may not take long for Rosie to mentally undress Adam - she never had a filter anyway - but it does take time for the two of them to admit their feelings (despite Duckers's teasing). The slower burn of the romance complements the speed of the plot buildup, and the romance itself crests nicely with the climax of the plot.

I'm always invested in the new ways Bannen expands her worldbuilding. She introduces a new component each time that fits nicely into Tanria without erasing anything from a previous story. We still have funerary boats, the salt sea, and glitter dragons, but now we have an expanded universe with more background on the war between the old gods and the new.

I was delighted to be a part of the Joyful Chaos traveling ARC group, and also to have access to an ALC to listen simultaneously. Jim Frangione and Kacie Rogers, though because the book is almost entirely from Rosie's perspective, Rogers is the primary narrator. I found myself drawn in by both the storytelling from Bannen and the narration. I laughed, I cried, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself with the sort of romantasy that Bannen excels with.

Funny, sweet, fantastic world building, interesting, what more could we ask for in a book?
I picked this one up which is a few into the series but didn’t have a problem understanding the plot and as far as I could tell not too many spoilers.
I loved the characters, their relationships and their flaws.
Fantastic narrators, did a 10/10 job, I was totally immersed and didn’t want the book to end!

This book was adorable. I loved getting to see peeks of the characters from previous books intertwined in this new book and these new characters!

- opposites attract
- slow burn
- humorous
- LGBTQ+ rep

I loved the narrator choice for the audiobook.

I am thoroughly satisfied with book 3 in the Hart and Mercy series! I ate this audiobook up in pretty much one sitting, I did not want to stop listening. I didn't think I could like Rosie and Adam as much as I loved the other leads in the previous books, but I was wrong. I think Adam might just be my favorite MMC of the trilogy. Rosie is a complete badass, so naturally I loved her too. I laughed, I teared up, I smiled like a fool, I kicked my feet. So all in all a perfect listening experience.

The narrators did a fantastic job. Kacie Roberts flawlessly differentiated between different characters' voices. She portrayed Rosie's enthusiasm and recklessness well. She had me in a chokehold with how she portrayed Adam...meaning I was so in love with him, almost from the moment he entered the story because of how she voiced him. (I love a stoic, dry humored man.) The new mail delivery creature's voice was absolutely amazing, I could picture the hippy dik-dik creature vividly, lol. I also appreciated the range of emotions she portrayed, from excitement, to anger, to sorrow. 10/10 performance hands down. The other narrator, Jim Frangione, also did a great job with his part of the narration. I like how it made the story feel like a fairy tale within the book, which is exactly how I imagine the author wanted it to be. Another solid performance!!

In this Tanrian adventure we follow an immortal Demi-god Marshall Rosie whose motto is act first, think later. When the portals to get into Tanria break down Rosie must team up with Adam, the closed off inventor of said portals to fix them and save Tanria.

I absolutely love this whimsical fun world Megan Bannen has created and I am so sad this is the final book in the series. I was so excited that we got to have glimpses of many of the previous books characters. I adored the friendship between Duckers and Rosie and how they interacted. I also really enjoyed the lore that we got in this one and the old gods, even the Trickster.

The first half was a bit slow but I was having so much fun with the banter and being back in this world I didn’t mind much. While I liked the grumpy-sunshine aspect, the romance felt rushed at the end and I just didn’t feel like Rosie and Adam had much chemistry. I was much more interested in what would happen between Duckers and Zeddie to be honest.

Overall I really loved this book, it was hilarious, heartwarming, and even had me tearing up a little at the end. I had a fantastic time reading it and would do so again.

Audiobook:
The voices that the narrator did for each character were unique and fun. I laughed so many times at Gobbo’s lines. The pace, inflection, and emotional range were on point. I also enjoyed that the portion from Adam was read by Jim Frangione, it gave more depth to that chapter and his backstory. The narration as a whole was very entertaining and I would definitely listen to other books narrated by Kacie Rogers.

This series has been so fun to read and listen to! Duckers plays a larger role in this book as Rosie's partner. He's so freaking funny!
Rosie is my favorite character, however, and I was so happy to see her journey move along with Adam. Her outrageous personality and actions paired with Adam's drab personality was a great combination. Add in Zeddy and Duckers trapped with them in The Mist, made for great entertainment!
Thanks to NetGalley and Hatchett Audio for the adiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My goodness do I love the Tanrian Marshalls series so much (or Hart and Mercy#3). Rosie quickly became my favorite (just as Mercy was and just as Twyla was). I listened to the audiobook, which was beautifully produced, and I cackled every time the autoducks or equimaris’ were mentioned. Cheered for every dragon meep and chortled for every Rosie one-liner. It had so much heart (with an e!), gave me all the feels, and I just want this series to go on forever and ever.

Megan Bannen does it again. Her stories always have everything one could want. There’s love and mystery and dragons and toads and glitter slime and just the most amazingly welcoming and accepting characters. I’m so sad this is the last book in this series but I will forever come back to it. 🖤

MMC: Adam Lee
FMC: Rosie
Exciting: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Romance: 💓💓💓
Slow burn
Narrator: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Plot/Story:
With an immersive voice the narrator take us to the Tanria, a place where Gods, magic and incredible people exists.
The chemistry and banter of the main couple, top tier. But the second characters are not left behind, with great backstories and character development, the author delivers a fun and sentimental with very original aspects story

⭐️⭐️.5/5

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a fantasy romcom with magic, mystery, and found family.

Unfortunately, this one did not work for me. Although vivid and well-developed, the characters felt too immature for my taste. I longed for more world-building and plot development. The romance was sweet, although I hoped for more connection and development. Although Megan Bannen’s prose was often witty and entertaining, I found it difficult to connect to the characters and the story, which sometimes felt overly silly and lengthy. However, I did enjoy the stories and mythology woven throughout the book.

Jim Frangione and Kacie Rogers were fantastic narrators for this one. They brought wonderful energy and emotion to the story. I recommend the audiobook!

Thank you to the publisher for the free ALC!

The Hart and Mercy series does. not. Quit.

Rosie Fox is absolutely hilarious and I love her attitude. I’m sure a lot of us have already fallen in love with her from the past 2 books, but having her as a MC is really a treat.

We get so much more lore in this story too and I loved it! The myths, the legends and the truths all blend into one and it was truly a wild ride. Just the perfect amount of swoon-worthiness and the return of a bunch of other amazing characters. The ending legitimately had me tearing up from happiness, Megan Bannen is just so wonderful at making these heartfelt, real characters!!

The perfect blend of romance and fantasy, I’ll be recommending this series for life!

This series! All three books have been so much fun and I'm sad to see it come to a close, but so happy to have gotten Rosie and Adam's story! Rosie Fox is an immortal demi-god working as a Tanrian Marshall. When the portals to Tanria go on the fritz, Adam Lee, inventor of said portals, is called in to do repairs. When the repairs go awry and Rosie and Adam are stuck together, it becomes clear there is more to the inventor than meets the eye and they're going to need to work together to get out of this mess.

I know people were pulling for a Duckers/Zeddie book in this series, but I think there's just enough of their story in this book to make everyone happy! Rosie and Adam were, in my opinion, the stronger option to root this this book because there was so much to explore in their histories and characters. I can't wait to see what Megan Bannen does next, because I just know it's going to be a good time.

Even though the books in this series could probably be read as interconnected standalones, I highly recommend starting from the beginning to get the most out of the cameos and updates in this book!

The narrator was perfect for Rosie! This was an excellent audiobook and had the perfect tone for the book.

Thank you so much to Orbit and NetGalley for the eARC and opportunity to provide an early review.

A heartwarming, cozy third installment of this series. I love the whimsical exchange of teasing. An easy read and good palate cleanser of a book. The fantasy elements are magical in a way that it has its own identity compared to the first two.

I love (and thankful for NetGalley) the audiobook as it made me enjoy this one even more. The narrators did great in expressing and unfolding the love story between the leads. Voices are remarkable. (Listened at 1.5x speed).

Great writing and audio overall 🩷
