Every time I pick up something from this series, I am reminded exactly how bonkers this world is. And what a world it is.

The romance was good. I enjoyed the otherness that Rosie felt and her thirst for Adam. I also appreciated that we dug a little deeper into the god narrative and world building/ lore of the world for this one since Rosie is a demi-god. I think that this was more of a slow burn, and with how things shook out, it worked. I also enjoyed that the author moved the timeline of this book a little futher so we got snippets of past relationships and how they're doing now as part of the story. So snippets of Hart & Mercy, Twyla & Frank and as always Duckers & Z. Audio book is an excellent way to experience it, the narrators did a great job, and gave Rosie a perfect characterization.

All in all, it many not be my overall favorite of the series, but it was still a very good installment, and I really enjoyed this silly and weird fantasy romance series unlike anything else I've ever read.

Thank you to Orbit, Megan Bannen and Hachette Audio of an early copy.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is the third book in Hart and Mercy, a series that is part romantasy, part small town romance. When I got approved for the audio-arc of this book I decided that while it can be read as a stand alone, it is better read in the context of the series (which I am glad my local library had audiobooks available of so I could catch up). While this entry is not my favorite in the series (Book one ripped my heart to shreds, okay), I do think It is a really fun read. Rosie is a TALL bad ass immortal demigod Tanrian Marshal and Adam is a short king inventor. They get trapped on the wrong side of a portal while he is doing repairs (along with two familiar faces from the prior books) and it gives them the opportunity to explore their budding chemistry while they figure out if her immortal life is to be spent trapped forever or not. I really liked how their height difference was portrayed. Tall girls and short guys deserve to see themselves as desirable without it being fetishized.

Also since this was an audio-arc, I think the narrators did a wonderful job. I personally listen to audiobooks any where from 1.75x-2x and I didn't feel like anything got lost in the speeding up process. Kacie Rogers read the vast majority of the book and I felt like her performance was engaging and entertaining.

Thank you to Hachette Audio | Orbit, Megan Bannen, and NetGally for the advanced listener copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Ooh this book had me kicking my feet! It was a bit of a slow start, however, once it got going I was definitely hooked and needing to know how it ends. I loved the MC’s. Rosie and Adam were a good match and though they don’t start out liking each other (for various reasons) they’re not enemies, so more of a dislike to lovers situation.

The fantasy world building was done well, I was able to follow along easily enough with elements of a parallel magical world alongside the mundane world. It gave off fantasy but also fairytale vibes which worked well together. The narration was well done, the narrator for the characters and was easy to listen to.

Thank you to the author for gifting me this ALC, I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Such a fun and emotional rom com and a great addition to the series. The expanded worldbuilding Bannen does in Tanria is delightful and I love that we continue to connect with characters from the previous books without it feeling out of place. Read this whole series!

This was a really excellent conclusion to a fantastic trilogy. (I’m assuming it’s a trilogy because there doesn’t seem to be much left to resolve after this installment, though I would love to be wrong about that.) It was so lovely to come back into this unique, imaginative world and I’m very sad that it seems to be over. I’m kind of hoping that if the author writes another series it will be set in a shared world, even if it’s not the same exact place and characters, just because I find the worldbuilding so interesting.

I’m still a little bit upset that we didn’t get a book that was called The Underwhatever of Zeddy and Penrose. I feel like there’s a thing in romance series where queer side characters get their own love story but it’s always a side plot and never the focus of an entire book, and I find it kind of disheartening.

I loved Rosie and Adam, both as individual characters and as a couple. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a fantastic job. Though I will say that the inclusion of a male narrator on the description of the audiobook led me to believe that the book would be dual POV, like Hart and Mercy. It was not – there was only one chapter with the male voice and it was not really Adam’s POV. However, as with Twyla and Frank, even though I missed the dual POV I thought that the single POV made more narrative sense, mostly because the non-POV character was hiding a secret that was better revealed later in the story, and to include that person’s POV would give too much away.

All in all I really enjoyed this whole series (I think it’s going to be highly worthy of a re-read, and I don’t say that often) and I’m eager to see what the author does next. 4.5 stars rounded up.

I received an advance copy of this audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm finally getting around to writing this review, but don't let that reflect on the book, which i deeply loved.

Some time has passed in the world outside tanria- the kids (duckers) has grown up, hart and mercy have kids of their own, and rosie and frank have acrually retired. but for immortal rosie fox, not much has changed. her godly parent, the trickster, is still meddling in her (157 year old) life, she still misses her mom and worries about losing the people she cares about, and she still cant die....which she confirms by electrocuting herself on the portal to tanria. Rosie's little accident brings Dr. Adam Lee to the marshalls side in an attempt to maintain access to the magical land, and the spark that was ignited during his and Rosie's earlier meeting is still smoldering. But there are bigger issues at hand- rosie sees thorny vines and shadows that others can not rolling over the magical hills, which affect all access to the magical land, eventually leaving her and adam stuck in tanria- looking for the cause, and their escape.

this series is a highly recommend for me, and i loved this book. the audio narrator was excellent, and i think rosie's silly humor and quirky personality really shined along the ride. the mix of tanrian mythology and interplay of the gods was a welcome addition/return, and i loved that mary georgina was back in action. i love adam's short king energy, and that rosie does not give a hot toot about it. i feel like this book really rounded out the series and gave every character you fall in love with a satisfying end.

i loved so much about all of it. i vote you just go read the whole series. thanks, netgalley, orbit, and hachette for this audio ARC.

This was such the perfect ending to this series. I loved being back in this world and learning more about it. And I loved that we got cameos from all our beloved characters. I was especially glad that Duckers again played a key side character role, I did always hope he would get his own book but I loved the conclusion to his story.

Rosie was a great FMC, I had a lot of fun following along with her. She's tall, funny, knows who she is and has a healthy dose of daddy issues. I really enjoyed both her character arc and her romance with Adam. It was a slow burn and I loved how flustered they both got by each other.

I think Hart & Mercy will always remain my favourite with this one coming in 2nd.

Penrose Duckers must be protected at all costs. This third installment had more humor and banter than its predecessors, and the continuing presence of Duckers plays a huge role in that. Rosie is wise-cracking and lovable, and Adam is so dry and broken. While the twists were predictable, it was a fun story.

I was lucky enough to have the audio and ebook version of this and loved both!

I LOVE THIS SERIES.

I truly don't think there is anything Megan Bannen can writer that I wouldn't love.

This part of the saga follows Rosie, a demi-god Marshall, and Adam Lee the person who invented the portals to Tanria.

Drama ensues. There is mystery, love, friendship, and the best side characters ever.

⅘ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam
Author: Megan Bannen

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for my ALC! I absolutely love the Hart and Mercy series, and this latest installment did not disappoint. Each book features a new duo set in the world of Tanria. This time we follow Rosie, a demigod who cannot die, and who is growing tired of her mundane and repetitive life. After accidentally breaking a portal, the inventor Adam is brought in to fix the situation. When things escalate, Rosie and Adam find themselves trapped in another realm with no way out. Forced to work together to survive and return home, they slowly begin to bond and realize they have more in common than they thought. One of my favorite things about this series is how it is borderline a cozy fantasy while still delivering plenty of action and plot. It has the emotional warmth of a comfort read while keeping the pace and intensity of a traditional fantasy. The audiobook narration was fantastic, and Kacie and Jim brought great energy and chemistry to the characters. Highly recommend this for fans of fantasy with humor, cozy vibes, AND adventure.

4.5⭐️ This book is quirky, heartwarming, and everything I adore about this interconnected series. Rosie’s POV kept the tone bright and fun, and the cameo appearances from previous books felt like the perfect reunion with characters I’ve grown to love.

The side relationships were such a highlight. Rosie and Dukkers’ friendship had me grinning, and the unresolved drama between Dukkers & Zeddy added just the right amount of tension.

At the heart of it all is Rosie and Adam’s sweet romance, packed with tall queen, short king energy. I did wish for a little more angst, but the emotional payoff in the final chapters left me misty eyed. (Which I completely did not expect!)

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

One thing about me is that I adore a cozy romantic fantasy, and I loved the first two books of this series. This story brought more information about the world in which the books take place (Tanria), more coziness, and such a cool combination of main characters given their relation (or lack thereof 👀) to mortality.

Rosie is an immortal demigod and Adam is a genius inventor who is sent to fix the portals between the worlds because they have been on the fritz lately. When the portals fail, the two are trapped together in the mist and, as we know, with forced proximity oftentimes come sparks! This book was more of a slow burn than the first two, but the forced proximity and cozy mystery happening help to bring them together in this final book in a wonderful series (but if Megan Bannen ever changes her mind and decides to give us a Zettie and Duckers book, I will be overjoyed!).

Things I loved:
- Found family (strong element throughout the series)
- Excellent banter
- Slow burn
- Forced proximity
- Tall FMC (as a fellow tall FMC, I always appreciate a tall lady!) x short MMC
- More world building

The only thing I didn’t love about this book was that it was a bit slower paced than the first two books and the romance isn’t as front and center, but I loved getting more of all the characters’ stories and being back in Tanria again!!

🎧I have listened to all three books on audio and, yet again, the narrators did not disappoint for this one! They brought the banter to life well and conveyed emotion in a realistic way that absolutely enhanced the book.

Thank you to Orbit Books, Hachette Audio, and Netgalley for the eARC and ALC copies of this book!

Thank you to Netgalley for the Audio ARC of this book. I really enjoyed the first two books in this world. The ending of this one almost won me over to it but the start with the insta love between the main characters was a bit slow. I didn't love Rosie and her instant lust for Adam, it felt odd. The last 30% was good and I liked seeing the world grow and change.

I wanted to enjoy this but I struggled to like any of the characters. I also felt no chemistry between the 2 MCs. The idea was good but the execution wasn’t there..
The narration was also not my favorite. I couldn’t get over the male voice. I think it just wasn’t a great fit for me. The female POV was done well and I enjoyed the accent. The male POV fell flat and it may have been more due to the writing style of the author.

Rosie Fox is a marshall of Tanria, the national park accessible only via portal because it used to be a prison for old gods. She loves her job, but when she dies by electrocution (again), things take a bit of a turn. Sure, she's an immortal demigod, so death only stops her for a little while, but her mess-up trying to fix this portal leads to the inventor of portals, the quiet, prickly (and unfairly hot) Dr Adam Lee to come try and fix it. Unfortunately, the shadows that seem to be causing trouble in the portals are only visible to Rosie, but surely the good doctor is up to the task. When things keep going wrong, however, the two of them end up on the wrong side of the portal, trapped together, tasked with saving all of Tanria from these invasive vines. And Adam is definitely hiding something beneath that cool, calm exterior.
This was a delight to read. I haven't read the other two books in the trilogy, and I was able to figure things out pretty easily, so if this is your starting point, I think you'll be fine too. It did definitely make me want to read the other two books, for sure, but as with most romances, they can be done in any order. The world was a lot of fun: simultaneously a little roaring twenties, a little wild west, fairly modern, and with dragons! I love dragons. My point, though, is that the vibes of this world were immaculate. Rosie is a fantastic character; I am a sucker for giant women, apparently. She's so feisty and good and a really good counterpoint to Adam's (understandable) reservedness. His backstory was a great surprise, even though there was foreshadowing (that I was way too dense to see). I also loved the little background romance between Duckers and Zeddy. A good second chance romance always goes hard. This was such a cozy little romance and I really enjoyed it. Like I said, now it's time to hunt down the other two books in the series.

A perfectly conceived and written finale for this excellent series! I read both the text and the audio (thanks, NetGalley, for the listening), and with those formats together I enjoyed such a rich experience with the Mercy and Hart, and Rosie and Adam, story arcs.

The audio was beautifully produced by Hachette Audio: Kacie Rogers performed with excellent voicing, and as often happens with text vs. audio, the audio brought scenes in the text to life. Jim Frangione provided the single chapter with a male point of view: What an enlightening addition that was!

For those who have read books 1 and 2 in the series, you'll love the conclusion this story provides! For those who aren't familiar with the earlier books, do try to read them first (they are so good on their own, that won't be a hardship!). An excellent series, with stellar characterizations and amazing world-creating!

A fun paranormal romance between the immortal daughter of a god and a very nerdy inventor who try to solve a problem surrounding an invasive thorned vine that most people can't actually see! This was entertaining and the characters are very nice. Also it's fun to see a tall, plus size woman so committed to wearing luxurious underthings! We see characters from previous books in the series and get to see a little more about the gods and the afterlife. Not my favorite of the series but a good reading experience that wraps things up nicely. The audio narration is done well. I received an audio review copy via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.

I must confess, when I requested this book, I did not realize it was the third book in the universe, however, the well rounded characters, easy banter, and worldbuilding made it fun to listen to nonetheless.

Rosie is a demigod. She can't die and feels stuck amongst the many mortals. Adam is the inventor of portals. When the portals start to fail, these two - and two of their friends - suddenly finds themselves stuck together in Tanria - a strange and magical place, where dragons roam. As the group digs deeper to understand what has happened, Rosie finds herself trying to draw Adam out of his shell, but she is not the only one keeping secrets.

I really enjoyed this book. The banter is great, and I love the different dynamics in the group. Duckers and Rosie's friendship is great and their banter made me laugh out loud on multiple occasions, while Rosie's conversations with Adam was completely different, but still entertaining.
Rosie and Adam make a cute couple, and seeing them falling for each other and opening up for one another was brilliant. A sidenote is that I also really enjoyed how Rosie was tall, while Adam was shorter than her. As a tall girl, that's representation I don't often see but always enjoy.

Further, the narrators were great, and I found myself completely imersed into the book :)

Overall, I had a fun time, and give the booke a solid 3.75/5 stars

I went into this book fairly blind. I had heard of the author and that another book of her's was quite popular in the romantasy genre, and so I wanted to give this book a whirl. I was a bit unsure in the beginning about whether I would have needed to read the previous books in the series in order to best understand this book. To that I will say, yes and no. Some characters from the earlier books do make an appearance here but they don't take center-stage so this book can stand on its own. That said, I'm sure people may be able to appreciate the story more if they follow the series from the beginning.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is another tale set in the fantastical world of Tanria created by Megan Bannen in her highly popular first book 'The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy'. This book follows, you guessed it, Rosie and Adam, as we see how their romance blooms over the course of this book as they deal with the mysteries of the world they inhabit. Rosie Fox is an immortal demi-god on the force that patrols the strange and magical wild regions of Tanria. These are mostly accessed through portals which have started to act weird lately, so when the 'immortal' Rosie gets electrocuted while meddling with one, the creator of the portals, Dr. Adam Lee is called in to investigate.

What follows is quite a charming and heartwarming tale of two people opening up and falling in love. The book never strays from that fact and right from the get-go we can see how it will play out but the author does this so well that it's just nice to follow along for this ride. The characters are quirky and lovable, and the flow of the story is very easy going and relaxed. Definitely recommended for cosy romantasy fans, and I am definitely going back to read the other books in the series.
