Thank you to Orbit and Hachette Audio for the complimentary audiobook. These opinions are my own.
I don't even have words to express my deep and abiding love for this series. It's so unique and Megan Bannen has such a distinctive writing voice. I absolutely adore the world she has created and was so glad to return to it.
This story starts a few years after Twyla and Frank ends. It's the story of Rosie who is a demigod as she tries to work out why the portals to Tanria are breaking. And so of course, their inventor Adam has to come help.
This book feels quite literally epic. There's so many life and death stakes. I love the characters, the dragons, the magic, the myths, and so much more. And I loved all the many kinds of love amongst the characters. This felt like an absolutely fabulous conclusion to the series with all the ends wrapped up. Yet I can't help myself from wanting the chance to return to the stories again. I guess that means I will be re-reading.
The audio was performed by Jim Frangione and Kacie Rogers. I'm already planning to listen again.

I was so excited to be back in this world after loving the first two books in the Hart and Mercy series! The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a cozy romantasy, with some mystery added in. While I had high hopes, this one definitely felt slower paced a bit repetitive at times. The romance felt a bit too insta-lovey for my preferences. I absolutely loved that the pink dragons were included and was glad to see more of Duckers, who is always one of my favorites.
The narrators were absolutely fantastic and added to the cozy vibes of the story while also bringing the characters to life.
Thank you to Hachette Audio for the advance copy!

Final rating: 2.5 ⭐️
After loving Undertaking Hart and Mercy last year (6⭐️), I was excited to continue with the series, and when this came up on NetGalley, of course I had to request it!
The third book in the series is set a decade after Frank and Twyla’s story. Some of our known characters are back: Dockers, Z, etc. While I’m happy to listen to what had happened in this time jump, the plot and the story really fell flat for me. As Rosie keeps on saying in this book, this is utterly dry AF. The characters, especially Adam, god is he freaking dry as sand. The romance had no foundation whatsoever despite some random storyline of how they met. Everything about these two felt too forced for my liking.
Rosie kept on simping on Adam and don’t get me started with her obsession with lingerie. Idk what that’s about honestly. It felt so out of place and I’m not gonna lie, ultimately cringy.
There was even less nimkilim in this, which is one of the things I adored in book one. The banter was there but wasn’t charming or amusing. They kept on trying to solve the problem over and over, and I just got bored and uninterested whether it WILL be.
This was too long for what it is. Quite sad about it because of how much I loved book one.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This trilogy was so much fun. I would describe the Hart and Mercy series as cozy romantasy. Tanria is an adorable and heartwarming world with quirky characters. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam was cute, fun, and light with little mystery. A little insta-love for my liking but still a good time. I will say that Duckers is still my favorite character - he’s so precious.
Thank you ARC. I listened and read along to this one and it was great!

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam didn’t grab me right away. The beginning felt a little offbeat and Adam came across as kind of a cardboard cutout. I stuck with it, and I’m glad I did.
Rosie is the absolute star. She’s bold, unfiltered, a little chaotic in the best way, and completely unapologetic. Her insta love feelings kick in fast, which I’m usually not a fan of, but somehow it worked here. Their romance still unfolds in a way that feels like a slow burn emotionally, and I found that oddly satisfying.
Adam starts off closed off and dry, but once his backstory unfolds, it all clicks. He’s not boring, just guarded. And once he starts to soften, the tension between them builds in a really enjoyable way.
The pacing is uneven in places, and the middle drags a bit, but the last quarter shines. The setting comes alive, the emotional stakes land better, and the fantasy elements get more playful. Glitter sneezing dragons absolutely helped.
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Amanda Ronconi, and she crushed it. She gave Rosie so much personality and helped bring the humor and heart of the story to life. Her voice really carried some of the slower moments and made the book more engaging overall.
Special thanks to @Netgalley and @HachetteAudio for an audio copy in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When immortal demigod and Tanrian Marshall Rosie Fox dies (again) while investigating a shadowy substance infecting the portal between Tanria and Eternity, Professor Adam Lee is called in to repair the damage. Unfortunately, the portal at the West Station, along with the others across Tanria, rapidly begin to fail, and the Marshalls are forced to evacuate. But the evacuation doesn’t go as planned, trapping Rosie, Adam, her partner Duckers, and Zeddie Birdsall in Tanria.
This was such a cozy fantasty! I loved how familiar faces from the first two books were woven seamlessly into the story, and we also get to meet a few new characters. The world building continues to grow in delightful ways, and the challenges Rosie, Adam, Duckes, and Zeddie had to face were full of heart, humor, and adventure. While I was more emotionally invested in the second chance romance between Duckers and Zeddie, I enjoyed how Adam and Rosie complimented each other.
Kacie Rogers does an excellent job with the audiobook narration, capturing each character’s personality with energy and charm. The only hitch for me was Adam’s voice, which was more grandfatherly than I pictured, but it didn’t take away from the story’s momentum.
Overall, this is a heartwarming and satisfying goodbye to Tanria and the HART & MERCY series. Thank you Hachette Audio and Orbit for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

*4 stars*
This was another solid book set in the world of Tanria. If you enjoyed the first two books, I think you’ll enjoy this one as well. It wraps up the story of Tanria nicely, if not a little quickly.
I loved Rosie but I wish we had gotten a little more interaction between her and Adam alone. They just didn’t feel like they had the same amount of chemistry that the other couples had in the first two books. I would also have really liked for Duckers to get his own story after stealing the show for three books. Overall this was a fun adventure with a lovable cast of characters. I always appreciate the found family aspects of these books and this one was no exception.
The narrator was good, although I did feel like her voice for Adam made him seem a little less dry and a little more flat, but I still enjoyed the audiobook.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ALC of this work. All opinions in this review are my own.

As always, I love Megan Bannen’s writing. Her characters and stories are truly unique, I frequently laugh and tear up. Even though all the characters are connected, the stories are different enough that they don’t feel repetitive. I wish this wasn’t the last of our adventures in this world, but this was the perfect ending.
The narrators did such an amazing job with this story, probably my favorite audiobook in this series to date!
Thank you to Hachette Audio, NetGalley, and Megan Bannen for a free audiobook!

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a fun, heartfelt fantasy romcom with tonnes of charm. Rosie (aka Rofo) is an immortal demigod who’s sarcastic, chaotic, and hilarious, her voice makes this whole book sparkle. When she accidentally breaks a portal and ends up stuck in the Mist with buttoned-up scientist Adam Lee, the opposites-attract chemistry kicks in hard.
Their banter is sharp, the romance is slow-burn perfection, and the emotional depth sneaks up on you in the best way. If you loved The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy, you’ll adore this one too, but it works great as a standalone. Cozy, magical, and unexpectedly moving. Loved it!

Megan does an amazing job following the story line and intertwining all the characters in book 3 and gave us an ending to love (IMO) to say goodbye to Tanria. “They’d come home to eternity”
Fun, quirky, country Rosie meets grumpy older inventor Adam. Little unconventional romance that pulls you in regardless. This story is so fun to follow since Megan’s writing is so descriptive and you can see the world shes created unfold your mind.
The narration of this book was very ear worthy and the emotions and tone read out to you could be felt. The voices given to the character stood out and were created perfectly.
If descriptive worlds in words in your cup of tea then I HIGHLY recommend either listening or reading this series since Megan has such a way to keep a reader interested.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to listen and review this audiobook.

This was a fun fantasy romance with lots of hilarious hi-jinks and was a pretty quick read! I did not read the previous books, which was my mistake given I think you'd learn some more backstory on these characters relationships to other side characters - so don't be like me and make sure you read the others first!
I thought the overall plot was fun with the different locations and being stuck on the other side of the portal. It was cozy and cute and Rosie's character had me laughing often with some of her ridiculousness.
The romance was hard for me get into, however. I just didn't buy the two of them in love and so that aspect of the story really didn't hold my interest. I kept hoping for more chemistry, but it just fell flat for me.
The audio was well done and I enjoyed the narrator, so if you like audios, this is a good one to do.

Are you kidding me?
LOVED this final installment in Tanria. Rosie is everyone’s favorite gal and while I was a little unsure about our Dr Adam, he turned out to be a great character that was such a perfect balance for vivacious Rosie.
The narrator was superb and perfect at the dialogue especially for Rosie.
Penny D is still my favorite character in the series. I was sad he didn’t get his own book, but was happy with how his character was wrapped up.

I really love this series - especially on audio. Sometimes I find it hard to grasp a different “world” while listening instead of reading, but Bannen creates such an easy to digest picture.
I loved revisiting old characters in this one and, while I know everyone’s waiting for a Zeddy/Duckers book, we got some great developments for some of the classics. Undercutting incorporates some old god lore, which was interesting and entertaining and the relationship between Adam and Rosie was sweet and believable.
I’ll always pick this series up.

This wasn't my favorite Hart&Mercy book, and it really bums me out. I even had an ARC and it took me forever to get through. It took a really long time for the book to convince me that Rosie and Adam actually have chemistry (I'm still not convinced). The plot was the most interesting part, and even that lost me pretty often. Best part was absolutely Zeddie and Duckers, I love them so much.
I also had an audio ARC. The narration was a 4/5, and helped me get through the book.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC, and Hatchette Audio for the audiobook.

This world is filled with whimsical characters who possess deeply human flaws and traits. Like the couples before them, this pair became endearing quickly. Although the middle of the story slowed a bit, the overall atmosphere remained cozy and heartfelt. It's a comforting world built on found family, love, and kindness.

4.5/5
I think this one has been my favorite of the series! I liked the little cameos from the characters from previous books and I really liked Rosie and Adam! I liked that Rosie was described differently from the usual petite/sight FMC’s that you see in a lot of books nowadays! With some romance, mystery, fantasy and saving the world what more could you ask for in a book!?
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for giving me this ALC in exchange for my honest review!

Another wonderful book from this series!
Megan Bannen does an incredible job of writing characters of all kinds – ranging in ages, backgrounds, perspectives, sizes, even mortality. I love that each of the books in this series focus on drastically different kinds of people, and this is no exception.
Rosie is a fiery, immortal marshal who keeps dying, + Adam is a nerdy, introverted inventor who is a solid foot shorter than her. This is a super unsuspecting couple, but my goodness, I loved their chemistry! The romance storyline was great, but I'm so invested in the happenings of Tanria.
You don't technically *HAVE* to read The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy (enemies to lovers with a side of secret pen pal) and The Undermining of Twyla and Frank (friends to lovers, older characters, and DRAGONS!) to know what's going on in this book, but you should. There's a pretty decent chunk of backstory in books one and two that make this book even better.
Thank you to the author and Hachette Audio for my advanced audio copy!

Full of humor and heart, pining and longing, bespoke attire and high-end lingerie, The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a fitting final trip into Tanria that encompasses all readers love about this series.
There are so, so many reasons to read it, but here are handful of them:
- Rosie’s wit and humor
- Adam, the 5’5” “pocket man” who comes back to life in many ways in the story
- A second chance for Duckers and Zeddie
- The”giant flying lizards that spat glitter”
- Blammo Tinky Fartface
- The nimkilim in this one (*snickers*)
- The lore
- The handkerchiefs
Look, y’all, I could go on and on about all the things to love in this one, but I highly recommend diving in and experiencing it for yourselves.
The audiobook is primarily narrated by Kacie Rogers with a small section of legend narrated by Jim Frangione. Rogers captures the rhythm of the banter-fueled dialogue, the moments of Rosie’s irreverence, and the breakdown of Adam’s formal boundaries well.
I had an advance copy of the audiobook from Hachette Audio. All review opinions are my own.

The audiobook production was great! I thought the narrator did a fantastic job bringing the book to life and I'm really glad I was able to read this on audio, because I think it saved this book for me. Let me start out by saying that I love this world and the people/creatures in it. But I didn't love this book. I think my biggest gripe with it that it lacked the warm and fuzzy of the found family the other books carried. Having spent most of the time in the midst and then the time jump, it wasn't my favorite. I liked Rosie as MC, but had a hard time connecting with Adam, so for me, the romance felt a bit flat. Overall, I think these books are good and I can't wait to see what Megan writes next!

In the whimsical world of Tanria immortal demigod Rosie is stuck in the monotony of her endless life—until a kind of fatal mishap thrusts her into the path of the prickly portal-maker, Adam. When a magical breakdown traps them together in the mysterious Mist, their clashing personalities—her chaotic spark and his polished reserve—ignite an unexpected connection.
This was such a fun audiobook! I loved the juxtaposition of Rosie’s silly, fun, outgoing nature and Adam’s serious, strait laced nature. This was my kind of cozy fantasy where the stakes are still relatively high so I don’t get bored but the tone & humour mean it never feels all that serious or heavy. I loved the side characters too, they were all so clear in my mind from the way they spoke & their actions. Just a delight to listen to!
