I absolutely ALWAYS love the world that Megan Bannen has come up with. Tanria is just always a good time, no matter what the people/demigods are up to, I just know I’ll be delighted. Rosie and Adam’s story was no different.

I had the pleasure of reading both the ebook and listening to the audiobook, and one of the things I think Megan is super good at is matching the narrator to the characters. As always, I really enjoyed this audiobook!

Wha I love about Megan’s love stories is that despite some of the population being demigods, the people are so incredibly real. You have older couples, tall women (I especially love this one as I’m a tall woman - not Rosie tall, but tall), short men, and honestly it goes on and on. Megan represents so many people who don’t get romance novels and I am always here for it! And yes, Rosie and Adam are a tall woman/short king pairing!

If you love Tanria like I do, you’re going to love this one too.

I wasn’t a fan of the narrator of the audiobook, but I liked the book more than I did the first book in the series (I skipped the second one).

Thank you to the publisher for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have been a fan of the Hart and Mercy books from the start. They are fun and quirky. I truly enjoy this adventurous fantasy romance.

The immortal demigod, Rosie Fox, finds herself stuck in Tanria after an unfortunate situation with the portal. Rosie, Adam, and her friends find themselves troubleshooting to return home. Antics ensure and secrets are revealed.

I enjoyed the contrast between uptight Adam, the maker of the portals, and carefree silly Rosie, who cannot die. This is a true opposites attract, and I had fun with it. The way death is explored in this book had me intrigued and reflecting on my own mortality. The characters all grew from this unfortunate situation making the reading experience satisfying by the end.

The narrator of the audiobook was clear, and it was paced nicely. Her tone for Rosie reflected her character, as well as Adam’s. She is distinct with her characters so much so I could tell when was talking before she finished the sentence.

I highly recommend this series to fantasy readers looking for a fun romance with a lot of heart. It makes you laugh one moment and then reflective the next. This duality showcases the author’s wonderful writing skills.

Thank you Orbit and Netgalley for the ALC of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sadly, it seems I’m in the minority camp when it comes to the reviews here. I went into this book completely blind, and I did really enjoy the plot of it all. Being stuck in the Mist and trying to everything to escape set up for some big swings. Unfortunately, I feel like some were missed.

The main character, Rosie, is a funny woman with a rather emotionally conflicting magic power that doesn’t let her die, an interesting backstory and a lot of hijinks. She was an easily loveable character for the most part. That leads me to the romance… I wish I could’ve rooted for the romance plot involving her, but I found Dr. Adam to be a tremendous bore. The only thing about him that I found interesting was that he had a cool short-king vibe. I didn’t feel any real chemistry between them, and I found this to be the most frustrating part of the story.

I also thought that the book itself was formatted oddly at times. The first quarter-ish part of it seemed to just be completely random and unrelated events. These were things that I thought could’ve been edited out. I also think that it took way too long to introduce Dr. Adam, our second protagonist and love-interest. Because of all this, it took me a little while to warm up to the story in general. Once I did warm up though, I got really interested in the world of Tanria, the gods, etc.

This was a decent read overall, I just didn’t really mesh with the book. If there had been less romance and more focus on the fantasy plotline itself, I most likely would’ve enjoyed it more.

Gorgeous as per the other books in this series, seriously knocked it out of the park again.
The characters feel fresh, representing types of people that might not find themselves in the main characters of many books. The romance is sweet and pining, the plot is beautiful, with true takes on what loving someone and sacrificing for them means.

Rosie is vivacious, fun and humorous, self sacrificing (it still counts even if she is reviving). Her encouragement and help to Adam facing his fears and her holding Duckers accountable for acting like a little shit is amazing. Not afraid to call people out or lead the charge
.
Adam is reserved, mysterious and nerdy, I loved that Rosie spots something in him and pulls him out of the layers he buried himself in. Finding out the true nature of his heart and the extent of the personality beneath was so satisfying as were the glimpses we got along the way. His backstory was SO GOOD.

Really great side character callbacks to Hart & Mercy, which feel natural and help progress the story forward(plus a couple of guest appearances) . Thank you for giving us more Duckers, one of my favorite side characters from the first book.
The Mother of Sorrows is funny as all hell with her investment recommendations.

Tears were shed in those penultimate plot moments , so beautiful!

Great voice acting from the narrator.
Thank you so much for letting me review this book, one of my favourites so far!

The narration for this book was excellent and has no bearing on why I didn't finish the book. I just didn't feel invested in any of the characters and couldn't push myself to continue reading.

Thank you to NetGalley & Hachette Audio | Orbit for an audio ARC of this book.

What a ride this one was, I did not want it to end! This was definitely my favorite of the series! I loved Rosie’s wit and how she processed her immortality. The way she felt alone and had to watch the people she cared the most for living their lives and that feeling of being stuck really resonated with me. Then Adam just got her. He accepted her and laughed at her jokes, he just made her feel so seen, ugh! Loved it! The slow burn was well worth the wait!

I am so glad we got more of Duckers in this one, though I would still love for he and Zetti to have their own book.

I was so great having familiar faces from earlier in the series, the nostalgia made for a cozier read. This one felt more low steaks than the previous two and the character development was strong all around the cast.

I received this book as an audio ARC on Netgalley, thank you Hachette Audio! The narrator Kacie Rogers was wonderful as Rosie, and she helped with making this audiobook the full immersive experience. Jim Frangione was the male narrator for Adam, but I would call his role more of a special guest or featuring, this was not a dual narration, so he was only in a small part of the audio.

This whole series was a gem and there’s something for everyone. If you are looking to break into a fantasy or would like more whimsy with their romance.

The author, Megan Bannen, will have you laughing and crying on the same page. I highly recommend it!

Thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Audio and Little, Brown Book Group UK for these eARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.

I adored the first two books in this cozy, sweet series, and this final book was no exception. Rosie and Adam’s interactions were so cute, and I loved seeing Zeddie and Duckers again, and how their story ends. The guest appearances from previous characters were so lovely as well.

I tandem read the audiobook and ebook, and enjoyed both. The narration on the audiobook was great - it was easy to tell the difference between different characters, and I loved hearing the different emotions (eg. Rosie and Alma’s snark, Duckers’ earnestness).

I’m sad that this is the last book, and would happily return to Eternity in a heartbeat.

4.5⭐️This cozy fantasy rom-com is the third instalment in the Hart & Mercy series and it might just be my new favourite. Rosie is prone to dying often, but thankfully immortal. She is also foot 5 and and a lover of fancy lingerie, Adam is uber smart, very quiet, a short king and despite first impressions her perfect match. I loved their forced proximity/found family journey.

Duckers is back (my favourite). We also get to see Hart, Mercy and Twyla & Frank. Tanria continues to be fun and ridiculous in a wonderful way and I truly enjoyed this book.

I did this series on audio and Kacie Rogers did a wonderful job narration. Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the advanced listening copy, all my opinions are my own.

Rosie, an immoral demigod who feels stuck in her unending life, spies a strange shadow inside a portal leading to Tanria. When the portal’s inventor, Dr. Adam Lee comes to repair the damage; they soon find that all the portals have begun to break down and she and Adam along with two of Rosie’s friends get stuck in the mist. What neither Adam nor Rosie realize is that their personal histories are more tangled up in the mysterious shadows than either of them could have ever imagined.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is the third and final book set in the worlds of Tanria and Eternity. If you haven’t picked up this series yet then I would recommend reading them in order. While I don’t think that is absolutely necessary, all of the stories are sweet and reading the first will give you a good feel for the world and for Megan Bannen’s beautiful writing. In this one, the romance is a slower burn but I loved the characters and story so much. It has more of a fairytale vibe than the others too, which I really enjoyed! There is no good way to sum up all of the mystical whimsy that is at the heart of these stories so I will just say this -- if you are looking for a unique fantasy series filled with tons of heart then this is the perfect one to pick up!

I do not want this series to be done! I absolutely loved following along with the new pairing while also getting to see what was going on with previous couples. I actually really enjoyed that this one was a bit more fantasy plot oriented than the previous ones, and not as heavily governed by the romance. This is a series I will come back to again and again!

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam by Megan Bannen is the third and final book in the Hart and Mercy series. In this book, Rosie Fox, immortal demigod has been a marshal in Tanria longer than anyone and she is feeling her age. After the death of a beloved elder community member, Rosie reflects that she is always the one being left from when her feckless divine father to the deaths of all her friends due to her immortal status.

Hoping to lose herself in her work, she and her partner Duckers are assigned guard duty when the inventor of the Tanrian portals come to investigate mysteries thorns that have appeared and caused Rosie to die yet again. But Adam Lee, sophisticated and taciturn, sparks an interest in Rosie that she hasn't had in a long, long time. And when the portals all start failing, the two along with Duckers and Zeddy, Duckers ex-boyfriend are trapped in Tanria with a closing window on how to leave, things start to get really interesting.

Megan Bannen once again brought her sharp wit and heart to the writing of this book. There were deep themes explored here including loss, parental disappointment, loneliness and personal growth. It was wonderful to see Hart and Mercy and Frank and Twyla living their lives with their families. It was like visiting with old friends.

I highly recommend this book though would recommend reading the previous two novels as some of the nuance of the story could get lost without that background. I also hope Bannen writes a short story or novella that focusrd on Zeddy and Duckers because those two are hilarious.

I listened to the audiobook of this book and the narration was fantastic. The narrators brough the story to life and it was impressive to hear the different "voices" the actors were able to inject into the story

Note: Thanks to Netgalley for a chance to listen to the audiobook ahead of publication.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for providing this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

I was sooo excited to get this ALC given that the first book in the series is one of my favourite books and there's a special place in my heart for all Megan Bannen books. Just as expected, the book was very well paced and kept that unique tone and atmosphere I fell in love with reading The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. The characters were very lovable and believable, and I absolutely loved the new delivery guy and his personality!

This book is very delightful and sweet. Although the concept of death and immortality still threads throughout the story, I feel like this one was much more light-hearted than the first, which made for such an enjoyable and cozy reading experience. I'm not sure I was sold on how quickly the romance plot evolved initially, but it ended up making sense with the characters' personalities, so I'm not complaining—it worked story-wise, even though I'm typically not a fan of characters falling for each other at that pace.

I listened to this book (although I'm still getting my special edition hardback preorder to complete the series 🖤) and I was very impressed with the narrator. Each character had a distinct voice and tone, and the overall flow was fantastic. As someone who frequently listens to audiobooks during long runs, I can attest that finding narration compelling enough to maintain focus isn't easy—but this one gripped me from the very beginning and I devoured the book in just a few days.

I feel like it was a fantastic way to conclude the series and allow all the characters and the world itself to grow and close this chapter of their lives. It's a delightful continuation that fans of the series will absolutely love, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys cozy fantasy romance with heart.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. What a perfect way to say goodbye to this world and these characters.
I loved being back in this world and seeing what everyone was up to from books 1 and 2.
Our FMC is a new favorite character of mine, I loved her struggle with her immortality, and i loved her sass.
The romance was sweet, and the plot went from: Oh, this is nice in the best way; to: Holy Shi*t, what just happened?
Couldn´t put it down. Highly recommend!

The audiobook was fantastic! The perfect choice of narration. This def. put them on my map to go ahead and listen to everything they narrate.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam by Megan Bannen
Hart and Mercy series #3, final book. Fantasy, romance, Romantasy. Best read in series order.
Rosie Fox has been patrolling Tanria for decades. She’s been feeling a little lost lately, bored with her job and life. As an Immortal demigod, she can die, which scares her coworkers and friends, but she comes back to life to continue working another day.
Tanria has changed over the years and the original portals are breaking down. The inventor, Dr Adam Lee, the inventor of the portals, is called in to make repairs in person. When he declares an emergency evacuation, Rosie and Adam get stuck inside Tanria.

🎧 I alternated between an ebook and an audiobook which is narrated by Kacie Roger and a small portion by Jim Frangione. It’s a marvelous performance where Rosie’s snark and humor just jumps off the page. She’s irreverent, and feisty with just a pinch of sadness she covers up with her outspokenness. It all comes out clearly via the audiobook and I’m so glad I was able to listen to this book and read along via ebook. I did listen at 1.5 to better match my reading speed.

Sad it’s the end of the series.
Wonderful world building, quirky characters with heartwarming and often humorous romance in a fantasy setting.
I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Hachette Audio.

the perfect ending to my favorite fantasy trilogy. The beginning is a bit slow but at the 50% mark, it really picked up and everything comes together.

At first, I was disappointed it was a Zeddy/Duckers story; however they are great minor characters who get their happy ending.

This is the story of demi-god Rosie and engineer Adam. Five years ago, Rosie met Adam and felt something but that moment seemed to pass. She’s been busy dealing with her immortality anyway. However, the two are paired together again when the portals start to have vine like structures grow that nobody else can see. Adam, whom created the portals, is tasked to help the problem but more problems arise before the conclusion comes.

I’m so sad I finished the series, but am so happy I got to experience the magic

Another hit from Megan Bannen. I love her writing and the character work she does in her books. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam had an interesting story and couldn't stop reading. I needed to know what was going to happen! I love that we see characters from previous books in this one. I also loved the expansion of the lore and worlds in this universe. The audiobook was well done and didn't feel out of place compared to the previous two books. If you're looking for a whimsical story with witty characters, amusing banter, and an engaging story, check out this book!

Synopsis: *This is third book in the Hart and Mercy series.* Immortal demigod, Rosie, and genius engineer, Dr. Adam Lee, are trapped in the magical world of Tanria until the mysterious vines attacking the portals can be tamed.

Thoughts: I love this series - it is so fun to read! The writing is playful, smart and super unique, lending to a hilarious cozy fantasy with a lot of heartfelt moments. All of the characters in this book (and series) are just lovely. I’m always a sucker for found family vibes, and they are perfection. The main characters in this book are quite the pair, and their slow-burn relationship is full of fantastic banter. Rosie is a half-mortal, super tall, fancy underwear wearing demigod who is absolutely unafraid to be herself. Adam, on the other hand, is quiet, broody and short with some hidden secrets under the surface. You definitely should read the first two books to get an understanding of the world building, which is so fun - this installment adds glittery dragons, so what’s not to love?! A note on the audio: actually, no notes - it’s perfect!

Read this if you like:
🐉 cozy fantasy
🐉 rom coms
🐉 opposites attract
🐉 forced proximity
🐉 dragons
🐉 found family
🐉 tall queen and short king

Megan Bannen does not disappoint! Cozy + epic + romantic might be a niche, but it's a niche I'm happy to bury myself in. This is the third instalment of the series, and with each book the world gets that little more vibrant in the most unexpected ways. I adored Rosie and Adam, and loved to see Zeddy and Duckers find their way back to each oher as well. Top tier banter, top tier bickering.

The audiobook was a lovely listen as well. Perfectly narrated with heart and humour.
