Another great story with the crew from Eternity. Rosie and Adam story was a unique twist to this world that was a pleasant surprise.

The concept of immortality has always been presented as something to be admired/desired. But Rosie and Adam’s story showed us that perhaps mortality is greater.

Various storylines from the previous two books were wrapped up nicely and gave this trilogy a satisfying conclusion, but I’d always be up for another trip to Eternity.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for an advance listening copy in exchange for an honest review.

Soft dnf! I thought I could read this as a stand alone but I think I need the full picture! I look forward to reading this series!

I believe this is the last book in the Hart and Mercy series and it sticks the landing solidly. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam begins about ten years after the events of the prior books. Duckers finally found a partner who will stick with him in Rosie, well at least most of the time when she isn’t dead. Rosie has finally hit the portal into the Tanria and the mist one too many times and this time it isn’t coming back on and they have to send for the inventor to fix it. Except it isn’t Rosie’s fault this time, there is a spectral vine growing in the gates causing issues and soon it will overgrow in all the gates to Tanria.

Rosie has died about a hundred times. It is never fun and usually freaks people out. She had a hard time keeping a partner as Marshall until Duckers was assigned to her. They’ve been partners for years and always have each other’s backs. The relationship they have built over this years is a lot like family and I love the way they tease one another. They are assigned to watch out and protect Adam, the inventor of the portals when he comes to fix them. Soon it is realized that everyone needs to evacuate Tanria because all of the gates could fail at any time. And while there is water in Tanria, a normal human wouldn’t be survive for long since there isn’t any food except ambrosia and that isn’t going to work.

Rosie and Adam get stuck in Tanria when the gates fail, along with Duckers and a very surprised Zetti, new chef to the dragon preserve’s fancy restaurant. Rosie has had a small crush on Adam since meeting five years ago. While others might see him as dry and boring, she understands his deadpan wit and loves it. As they get to know each other, they find that maybe they have more in common than they knew and Adam probably understands just what is it is like to live long enough to watch all those around you die. The slow build of their relationship is delicious as Rosie drags Adam out of his isolation and sees what a caring man he is under that tweed suit.

Bonus for all the Duckers and Zetti fans. As they are also stuck in Tanria, they have some forced proximity to assist in hashing out the feelings between them. It has been ten years since they broke up and Zetti came back to Eternity even hotter than when he left. He has also made something of himself. But there is a history there and some baggage to dig through before the end.

I liked the lore to this story and role that Rosie’s trickster father played. Both in the long ago lore of the thief trying to steal immortality and in the substantial daddy issues Rosie has. It appears that Adam also has some issues with Rosie’s dad just to round some things out. Rosie and Adam will have to make some hard choices to set the world right, do some much needed pruning and find a way to save their friends. They will also need to tame some of Adam’s issues with Dragons, he has his reasons but I don’t think he is used to the new to poodle like variety now in Tanria.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a great place to wrap up the series. It gave us solid insight to the characters of the prior books and set Tanria to rights. I am happy with the ending to the story and the series. It seemed fitting and I felt at peace seeing where the dragon refuge and most of the characters ended up in life.

I was really happy a different narrator was selected for this book. Kacie Rogers fit Rosie’s voice really well and made her feel like someone who came from the roaring twenties. She captured both the fun of Rosie and the solemnity of Adam. Jim Frangione did a really good job as well but only played a bit role as he was the narrator for the lore that set up this entire story. Overall a good combination.

The audio for this was amazing! I loved how Jim Frangione and Kacie Rogers were able to capture the story so well. It really says something special when narrators can get you swept up and all in your feels while listening to them.

Every time I think about this book It makes me smile. I love this series so much but I think this one was definitely my favorite! Rosie is such a breath of fresh air. I loved how witty and tenacious she was. Adam took me a while to like but i think that that made me like him even more. His past and story were fascinating I loved that the old gods were a big part of this one. And it felt really good for Rosie to get the closure that she so needed when it came to her dad. It was fun to see how their actions caused the ripple effect for the Eternity crew. And of course I love that with all these books it's all hands on deck and we still get to see how the other couples are doing. This is the feel good book of the summer that i needed!

4.5⭐️
This book 100% would have been 5⭐️ had I already read the two previous books in the series. I just found the world and context of the first 1/3 a bit too confusing as I hadn’t read the previous books and by the time I was with it I already felt like a lot of the story had happened.
That being said, I loved this. I thought Rosie and Adam were such a good match. I loved their dryness and humour and that they were the opposite of the conventional couple in their appearance.
Once I had a good understanding of the universe, I really liked the setting. Some parts of the story were definitely a bit wacky/out there but it all added to the charm of the story. The narration was also 10/10. Will definitely be looking out for audiobooks narrated by this person in the future.
I will say I’m a bit miffed that the Trickster got his redemption in the end but it didn’t ruin the book for me.
BRB - I’m off to listen to the first two books now 😅

My only complaint about this novel is that it- and the series- are complete and that makes this reader a little teary!
As I had the audiobook, let me first say that Kacie Rogers and Jim Frangione did an excellent job of bringing the main characters to life - and voicing the other characters in such a way that they were distinct and it was always clear to me who was speaking throughout the novel.
I loved the first two books in this series so I was sure I would also enjoy Hart and Mercy # 3) and honestly this one may be my favorite of the three!
This is a straight up fantasy romance, but it also touches on themes of death/immortality in a serious but non-threatening way. Oddly, and I'm not sure this was the intent, Bannen has made me much more comfortable with the idea of death- strange thing to get from a delightful romance, but there we have it.
We're back in Magical Tanria as Rosie - one of the Tanrian Marshalls- attempts to solve a problem with malfunctioning portals. This of course requires a visit from Adam - a reserved, formal short king who it seems actually invented the portals. These two met each other quite some time ago- each holding on to a handkerchief the other had for about a decade. Certain embers of Looooove do begin to flare as they are forced together to try to solve this mystery. Along the way readers are treated to a resolution of the relationship of much beloved characters Zeddy and Duckers, as well as cameos by other characters such as Hart and Mercy, Saltlicker, the Dragons and Twyla and Frank!
This is, for now, my top romance read of the year. So much fun! The Narrators were EXCELLENT, and I do highly recommend the audio! I honestly want to go live in Tanria immediately, and I am delighted that all three books in this series were so strong, and whatever is coming next from Megan Bannen is going to be on my "Immediate pre-order" list!

In this third installation of the Hart and Mercy series we meet the demi god Rosie and the secretive inventor Adam. The portals to Tanria are broken and the ranger and immortal human Rosie is charged with helping Adam fix them but things don't go simply for this pair.

We get to learn all about Rosie and her background, her relationship with her father and how she feels about being immortal. At the same time we watch Adam and Rosie fall in love while they are trying to save the world.

Some characters we've met in previous books make another appearance and we see how their lives have developed over the last few years.

This is a sweet fantasy romance with a scifi twist that makes you feel all the emotions. The world building and god lore can take a bit of work to understand but the characters and humour are incredibly engaging.

I really hope that the series continues.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ALC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I absolutely adore this series! It genuinely feels like a warm hug every time I dive into one of these books. Megan Bannen has well and truly become an autobuy author for me; I don’t even need to read the blurb anymore I’m in, no questions asked.

This time around, we’re following a tall, flame-haired, cowgirl who becomes, quite literally, entangled with a short, grumpy inventor determined to sort out some rather questionable magic-science portals. Glittery dragons are everywhere, and while Rosie doesn’t have a whole lot to her name, she does have outstanding underwear and a deadbeat God for a dad. As one does.

You technically don’t need to have read the previous two books to enjoy this one but if you haven’t, you won’t understand why I was an emotional wreck by the end. And I don’t mean a little tear here and there no, I’m talking full-on bawling, red face, nose blowing, the whole shebang.

Does love conquer all? Not always but it puts up one hell of a fight.

It was bittersweet reading/listening to this book because I am a huge fan of this series and this is the end. The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam gave me everything I have come to expect from Megan Bannen - laughs, tears and so many feels that I'm almost bursting at the seems.

I love Hart and Mercy and its probably my favourite in this series but the fact that we have Penrose Duckers and Saltlicker prominent in each book is my absolute favourite thing in the entire world.

I really enjoyed Rosie and Adam's character (Adam dry humour mixed with Rosie's absured humour just worked so well) and liked the way their relationship developed but what stopped this from being a 5 star read was the fact that they fell in love in a week which in a book with gods and dragons, just didn't feel realistic.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job of immersing the reader in this beautiful tale.

Overall, its a huge hell yes on whether you should read this book/series.

Thank you to Hachette Audio and Netgalley for the audio ARC and because I am sans children tonight (they are with my in-laws), I have left an honest review.

Advanced copy Audiobook Review – The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5)

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a compelling character-driven story that blends emotional depth with nuanced relationship dynamics. The audiobook delivers an intimate portrayal of two people navigating the fragility of trust, love, and the power plays that can quietly erode a seemingly solid foundation.

The strength of this audiobook lies in its raw honesty and subtle tension. Rosie and Adam’s story unfolds in a way that feels both relatable and quietly devastating — the kind of slow unraveling that keeps you emotionally tethered from start to finish. The internal dialogue is particularly well-written, offering sharp insight into both protagonists' vulnerabilities and motivations.

Narration-wise, the performance is strong, though it would have benefitted from dual narration to distinguish the characters’ perspectives more clearly and add another layer of emotional weight. That said, the narrator captures the tone of the story well, giving Rosie and Adam distinct voices and breathing life into the quieter, more introspective moments.

This audiobook is perfect for listeners who appreciate modern literary fiction with psychological undertones and a slow-burn, emotionally complex narrative. It’s not a light listen, but it is a rewarding one — the kind that lingers after the final chapter.

As always this was a pleasure to read. When I think of comfort books and book series I think about this one. I adore Megan's writing, and world building, this book was unique, fun, sentimental and holds a special place in my heart. Rosie might be one of my favorite characters in this world, she's a badeas FMC and I love her so much. This was an amazing addition to this series and I could honestly read a thousand more books in this world and I would be happy about it. Thank you to the publisher for sending this my way, I loved the audiobook and the narrators did an amazing job!

I really enjoy Megan’s writing, the interconnected storylines, and this series as a whole. Her way of storytelling is so easy to listen to (received the arc of the audiobook) and follow along with the characters and world building. I will say I’ve enjoyed the first of the series the most, but each were entertaining.

I felt this one gave a bit more background on the world and included more backstory to the love interest. There was a fable included in the novel and it was one of my favorite parts - gave a lot of background in a short amount of pages.

The premise for the series allows for so much creativity and spinoffs. I’m not sure if this series is set to continue, but I hope it does with 2 of the supporting characters and their relationship.

It's here! It's here! I've been dying to return to Tanria, and when I was given the digital ARC by Megan Bannen and #NetGalley, I literally squealed and danced in place. I recommend this series to friends aaaalllll the time! It's fantasy-adjacent, meaning it has fantasy elements like zombies and Gods and dragons, but feels like a contemporary romcom. The characters are all so vastly unique and loveable. The spice is there without being gratuitous, but the SWOON factor is high. I guess technically, each book can be read as a standalone, but it's probably best to read them each in order.

I love love LOVED The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam, the 3rd (and last) book in the series. I feel like the storytelling in this book was the absolute best! Rosie is taken on a literal and figurative journey, and she is a DELIGHT the entire time! Quirky, bold, funny, adventurous, and confident. It was a perfect ending to one of my favorite series.

I will note, I loved the audio for the previous books. It's a no for me... the narrator ruined the male characters. Specifically Duckers, arguably the most beloved character in the series. He's so goofy and fun and loveable, and she made him gruff. It felt completely wrong to his character. Just no. I recommend reading this one with your eyeballs!

Ok , definitely enjoyed this book.
No idea why I haven’t pick up any of the ones before because I do own them but well now they have become a priority.
First of all, I love the world set up for this book, I enjoy that is a series but it can be a stand alone. Now Rosie and Adam . Can I said I enjoy this two way too much. I love how Rosie is full of life and fun. Love her obsession with lingerie and her car . Following her thru this adventure was definitely entertaining and fun. Now Adam , at first I wasn’t sure about him so grumpy, but in the end he end up growing on me . Overall I enjoyed. Definitely on the cozy side.
Now for the audio amazing!!!!!!! Love it so much. Easy to follow. Fun to hear . Definitely 5 out 5 stars

Thanks to NetGalley and Orbit for the ALC. All opinions are my own.

Audio review: Kacie Rogers did a fantastic job with the narration. I listened at 1.75x speed and it was the perfect tempo to keep my brain engaged with the story without making the characters sound like weird chipmunk robots. She really brought the characters to life and did a great job at differentiating each of their voices. Jim Frangione, while only narrating the story of the Briar Thief, did a great job as well. It was nice to have a change in narrator for that part as it was tonally different than the rest of the book. Overall, it was a superb audiobook that added a nice layer to the story.

Book review: I'm sad this is the end of one of my favorite series, but gods do I love Rosie! I'm glad we finally got her POV after hearing about her from characters in the other books. Bannen's swan song to the world of Bushong and Tanria is just as cozy and beautiful as the previous two books. Fans of the series won't be disappointed.

Undercutting takes place 10 years after the events of Undertaking and focuses on four characters: demigod Rosie Fox, Penrose Duckers, Zeddie Birdsall, and Dr, Adam Lee. There's a mysterious shadowy plant that only Rosie can see growing through the portals to Tanria. As evacuations begin, our four characters don't make it out in time and are stuck until the portals can be repaired. The four get to spend a lot of time getting to know each other better, for better or worse. At first Duckers is livid he's stuck with his ex. But as time goes on, maybe there's still a spark left? Rosie comes face to face with her growing feelings for Adam. Does the ultra buttoned up doctor feel the same? Secrets abound but all will be revealed in time.
No spoilers, but this is definitely my favorite of the trilogy (sorry, Hart). This series is one of my absolute favorites in general and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to get into fantasy romance. Especially if you love banter. Bannen is a banter QUEEN! There were so many laugh out loud moments for me. Also, if you love cats with outrageous names (looking at you, Blammo Tinky Fartface) that nothing bad happens to, definitely pick this one up. Though, while technically a stand-alone, I do recommend reading the first two books first. There's a lot of crossover with characters and events.

My literal only complaint is we didn't get Adam's POV like we got with Hart/Mercy and Twyla/Frank in the other books. Though I absolutely understand why we didn't. It'd have given too many things away too early.

Give this book all the stars!

Things you'll find in this book:
- forced proximity
- slow burn
- tall queen (6'5") x short king (5'5" in shoes)
- age gap (she's immortal)
- witty banter
- found family
- dragons

Such a cute, cozy fantasy! This was my first ever Megan Bannen book and it was such a delight! I’ll definitely be reading the other two books in the world of Tanria. While there are crossovers with some characters of previous books, I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything having started with the third book in this world.

This book follows Rosie Fox, an immortal demigod, as she works alongside inventor, Dr. Adam Lee, as they attempt to fix some broken portals that connect their world with the Mist- a once prison for the old Gods. They find themselves trapped within the mist and do everything they can to find their way out.

This book has exceptional banter, a super sweet found family with the best side characters, and a ridiculously perfect ending. While not overly spicy, this is definitely an adult fantasy.

The audio of this book was great. Kacie Rogers does a fantastic job of narrating all characters of the story while Jim Frangione comes in to relay the story of the Briar Thief, as it’s told to Rosie.

Megan Bannen's Hart and Mercy series is one of my all time favorites, and Rosie and Adam gives us the perfect full circle conclusion! I will miss this world and these characters. There was so much to love!

I did a fully immersive read with both the printed book and the audio. Kacie Rogers and Jim Frangione give outstanding performances in voicing all the characters we have come to adore in Tanria. While much of the story is cozy, and quirky, Bannen has a unique way of bringing readers to tears with both joy and saddness at the same time. Here, amidst her glitter pocket book dragons and fantasy world watercars, she also tackles themes of parental abandonment, trauma, and loneliness in immortality, Heavy subjects for a book that also contains hairy frogs, portals and demigods. Yet, somehow this all mashes up into something beautiful and profound. Frangione and Rogers capture all of this nuance beautifully in their reading, bringing life to Rosie and Adam. This is one of those audiobooks I will simply put on again and again to be reminded of the joy this story holds.

I was pleasantly surprised by this addition to the series. After absolutely loving the first book and being disappointed by book 2, I was unsure on how I would feel about this one. And actually, I think this was my favourite book out of the series? I don't know, Hart and Mercy was such a great book, that it is hard for me to figure out which one I enjoyed more. I still missed not having a dual perspective, but this one made more sense on why the male love interest did not have a perspective as I loved the reveals in the end.

The Undercutting of Rosie and Adam is a romantic fantasy where (as the name suggests), we follow Rosie - a tall redheaded immortal demigod - and Adam - a genius inventor. Rosie Fox has been patrolling Tanria for decades - however, since there are no longer any zombies, her days have not been too exciting. And unfortunately, the portals that allow access to Tanria have started to fail - require the inventor Dr. Adam Lee to try to fix them but instead requiring an evacuation of Tanria. From there Rosie and Adam are now in trouble and need to find a way to fix the portals.

Rosie and Adam were great - they were so cute and funny together that I loved them. I would say that their romance did feel a bit insta love but I guess if you are immortal, you go for what you want and you don't waste any time. Now there might not have been zombies in this book, but I really enjoyed that we got to see more dragons. And I really loved how Tanria has changed throughout the series - and this was a perfect way to wrap things up.

The third book in this series set in the world of Tanria is here! Rosie is a 157 year old demigod and after she dies (again) while poking around a portal and getting electrocuted, Dr Adam Lee enters the story. He’s the inventor of this portal and needs to fix the damage that’s been caused. This leads to all of the portals shutting down and during the emergency exaction the doctor has declared, he gets stuck in “the mist” with Rosie. He’s serious, she’s warm and fun and wants to break through his cool demeanor. With time spent, they find out they have a lot more in common than they thought.

This has been one of my favorite series ever. I have loved each and every book with this magic system and world and the characters within it. These characters are so real and endearing, I just love them! Rosie and Adam had their own story but fit so nicely into what I already know of this community and world. This series means a lot to me and I’m going to miss this world!

The narrators did an amazing job, I loved their portrayal of the characters!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Megan Bannen, and Hachette Audio for providing this free ARC. This is my honest review. This published yesterday!
