Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.
I was honestly shocked that I didn't enjoy this book. It sounded so amazing, but it just fell flat (the narrator is amazing, though). I think it isn't so much the story, so much as the style and pacing.
The book is written as if a journalist is giving interviews to the band members, although you rarely hear the interviewer. Just long monologues from each band member about what happened. It wasn’t the fact that the first person voice kept changing - that didn't bother me - just that it the pacing in the beginning was so slow. I didn't need so many chapters on how they met, the formation of the band, etc. Not to say that some readers won't love it, though.
Thanks again to NetGalley.

My Ex, the Antichrist by Craig DiLouie is a wild, high-octane blend of rock & roll mayhem, supernatural chaos, and raw human emotion. Imagine Daisy Jones & The Six if the band traded folk-rock vibes for thrashing guitars, demonic deals, and backstage exorcisms—and somehow, it works brilliantly.
Told in a style reminiscent of an oral history or documentary transcript, the novel captures the messy, magnetic energy of a band on the edge—of fame, of self-destruction, and of actual Armageddon. DiLouie nails the rhythm of band dynamics, toxic romance, and creative tension, all while weaving in a darkly hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt tale about identity, temptation, and forgiveness.
Whether you're into blistering riffs or just love character-driven stories with bite, My Ex, the Antichrist is a must-read. It’s sharp, original, and devilishly entertaining—perfect for readers who like their music loud and their fiction gloriously unholy.

I’m sure many of us have an ex that we have deemed as the devil, but for Lily, there is no exaggeration there. Drake Morgan turns out to be the actual anti-Christ, come to bring the apocalypse.
Most of the book focuses on the beginnings of The Shivers, a punk band, as they work to achieve fame. However, not all is as it seems, as we come to find out Drake’s true identity.
I’ll be honest, this was weird, it was campy, but it was still wholly enjoyable! It’s told through “tell-all” interviews from the band members and other notable people to their story. It’s reminiscent of Daisy Jones and the Six or The Favorites, and it’s a method of storytelling that I really enjoy! It feels very immersive.
I do wish we had a bit more of the anti-Christ shenanigans, as it felt like more of a side plot to the overall story of the band.
I listened to the audio version, and as with other interview-based stories, it truly shines in this format! The cast of narrators all were great, and there was even a couple snippets of a The Shivers song added in!
Overall, recommend if you want some weird, slightly tongue in cheek horror!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the ALC!!

Dark, edgy, and utterly original, My Ex, the Antichrist is a gripping blend of punk rock memoir, apocalyptic prophecy, and psychological horror. Craig DiLouie spins a haunting tale of love, betrayal, and destiny through the eyes of Lily Lawlor—a rock star whose ex just might be the literal Antichrist. Told with raw emotion and eerie atmosphere, the story blurs the line between truth and madness, diving deep into the cost of fame, faith, and fear. Perfect for fans of character-driven horror and unconventional storytelling, this one will leave you unsettled—in the best way.

This book won’t be for everyone but I enjoyed it for what it is. It’s kind of campy and silly in a sense but it’s pretty fun. As someone who has been judged for listening to ‘the devil’s music’, I liked it. 😂
The audiobook is definitely the way to go. It’s a full cast and they really make it feel like you’re listening to true events from real people. The interview style was great! This book felt nostalgic so I had a pretty good time for the most part.
I’ll be checking out more work from this author!
5 stars for narration
3.5 stars for story

While the concept of the antichrist being just a typical person who uses their music as a way to bring about the end of time is definitely an interesting concept. I would have liked more of a delve into that side of the story rather than the interview format, which left a lot to be desired on how that concept worked. A story from Drake's point of view would be a very cool read. I would also say that the book leans more on the Thriller genre and not a Horror book, since there is not really much gore or any parts that are outright scary.

Read by a full cast, this audio book was like a demonic Daisy Jones and the Six. Absolutely fun and horrific and apocalyptic.
*Special thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for this digital audio e-arc.*

I was lucky enough to receive the ebook and the audiobook for this story. I love a good immersive read where I get to follow along.
This story is told in interview style where we hear from different people from the bands accounts of how things started and what happened. I find this perspective very interesting and I was unsure of who I could trust. The narrators did an amazing job of portraying the different personalities with each perspective and I really felt like I was there watching these interviews. The unhinged nature of some of these interviews is amazing. This book was such a surprise and I loved every minute of it. The energy of these characters and narrators is electrifying and I actually googled some of these things to see if they were based on a true story. So good.

ARC REVIEW (7/1/25): my ex, the antichrist by craig dilouie 🎸 when a rock musician learns her ex-boyfriend is the biblical antichrist, she must find a way to stop him before he grows powerful enough to end the world.
🎶 if you've been searching for a horror tinged daisy jones & the six with the vibes of evil in me by brom, this will be for you. I ate up the rock star drama and even the devilish horror, but I didn't appreciate the religious lectures that went along with it- dilouie dives in DEEP.
not gonna lie, I was confused at the beginning but once the story started taking its shape, I was sat while getting slapped in the face with pop culture references 🤘🏻 my only gripe is that I never felt any true connection to the characters. I don’t say this often but this would make a great low budget horror film!
the audiobook was narrated by a full cast and truly brought the journalistic interview format to life! the music & added sound effects made it as if I was rolling along with the shivers- what a cool band name! the audio was a saving grace while getting through this story 🎙️
love can be hell… thank you hachette audio for the early copy! ROCK ON 🖤 2.666 stars!

My Ex, the Antichrist is a wild romp that combines Daisy Jones and the Six with The Omen.
Lily Lawlor and Drake Morgan form a punk band who changes the music scene and more through their show. The title of the book tells you that Drake may have more than one secret.
I loved the format of this book (told through interviews) and the storyline. It was very creepy, dark, and darkly humorous. The narration is excellent. Great summerween time.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me listen early to this.
Let me start by saying that you miss out BADLY if you don’t choose the audiobook. It’s a high quality, full cast production with real songs in it - how freaking cool is that? It honestly was an immersive experience and I’m 100% sure I wouldn’t have liked it half as much if I had read the book physically.
This was the absolute wild ride of the rise and fall of the fictional band The Shivers. Much like Daisy Jones & The Six we get interviews from the band members, club managers, friends and agents. Different from DJ&TS we have a bat shit crazy horror spin in this one.
Because one of the former band members is the actual Antichrist and he’s about to unleash the apocalypse through his music. Sounds crazy? It is.
This was so fun and you really bond with the characters. I loved each and every one of them, all their little quirks and moving backstories. This book is carefully crafted through its authentic characters, the author did an amazing job here.
The only thing that I disliked was the extent of the apocalypse thing, it started to be ridiculous at some point. Other than that this is a must read for all rock and horror fans!

Daisy Jones and the Six, but a demonic, 90’s pop punk version. I loved the documentary style of this and the full narrator cast with added sound effects. A great listen! It is definitely a slow burn though but for me the pay off was worth the ride! Would recommend this one!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From rising star of horror Craig DiLouie comes a twisted tale of love, heartbreak, and the apocalypse. We all have bad exes. Lily Lawlor’s just happens to be the Antichrist.
Thank you @netgalley @hachetteaudio

Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
This was a miss for me... it was only ok. I expected more from Craig DiLouie. I voted up because I have enjoyed his past works.
Did not completely take me in. I was not vested in the characters.
We all have bad exes. Lily Lawlor's just happens to be the Antichrist.
"DiLouie brings his sharp mix of heart and horror to the end of the world with this clever story about rock and roll, relationships, and destiny." ― Peter Clines, New York Times bestselling author1998: Lily Lawlor and Drake Morgan form a punk band. Drake inspires faith in some. Fear in others. Lily is a believer.
2010: At the height of her stardom, Lily walks into a police station and confesses to a murder.
Now: The band has refused to talk to the press about their riotous past, Lily’s confession, or anything else. It's been over a decade, but Lily has finally agreed to an interview. And the band is following her lead.
What follows is a story of prophecy, death, and apocalypse. A story about love found and love lost. A story about the antichrist. Maybe it’s all true. Maybe none if it is.
Either way, this is their story. And they’re sticking to it.

I can not overstate how fun this was. My favorite kind of horror! A nice mix of scary, silly and a good time.

Lily Lawler’s life takes a major turning point when she meets Drake Morgan. He turns her into a punk rock superstar. He’s also the antichrist, who mesmerizes their audience into a murderous frenzy. Lily becomes torn between loving this new rockstar lifestyle and supporting the antichrist. Should she save her own soul for the future and destroy Drake or give in to the antichrist enjoy the now?
This book had its up and downs for me. I liked the rock star aspect of it and even the devilish horror, but I didn’t appreciate the religious lectures that went along with it. It also went on a little too long and lost me in a couple of places or maybe I just lost interest and couldn’t follow along. Whatever.
I did like that it had a full cast of narrators on the audiobook though. They did a phenomenal job. And I liked all the Rancid references, which happens to be one of my favorite bands.
Thank you, @HachetteAudio for the free audiobook.

Thank you so much to Orbit and Netgalley for this ARC. I enjoy stories in interview format, and this aspect was done really well. Unfortunately I found it difficult to connect to the characters in this book, which makes horror fall flat very quickly. It was difficult to want to pick this up, when I found myself not caring what happened to the characters. That said, I felt the pacing fit the plot, and the prose was well done. I'm interested in checking out other books by this author to see if it was just this specific format that caused the issue.

My Ex, the Antichrist by Craig DiLouie is the story of a pop punk band that gets wrapped up with the Antichrist and how they eventually thwart the apocalypse. This book sounded like a good time and so I decided to give it a go because it fits in line with a few of my favorite tropes - horror centered around music being the main one.
This book was told in an interview format which is great when done well and Craig DiLouie did a good job of it. This felt very Daisy Jones and the Six if Daisy was dating the Antichrist and had to stop the world from ending. There were no big surprises in this book, just a well told story of a band, their rise to fame, and their hand in stopping the apocalypse.
The audiobook had several narrators which was great, though I had the same brief issue with the Daisy Jones and the Six audiobook - between listens I couldn't always recall all the names of the band members and couldn't always remember which male voice was tied in with which male character. I figured it out eventually and didn't feel like I missed anything in the book because of it.
All in this was a good time.
Thanks to Craig DiLouie and Hachette Audio for sending this my way through NetGalley.

This was a 3.5. I liked the way the story was written, like an interview. Some parts were kind of hard to follow, but over all the story was good. I very read a couple other Craig DiLouie books and will continue to read them. Good stuff!

Lily, the lead singer of the popular band The Shivers, walks into a police station and confesses to murdering her ex boyfriend, the antichrist. The book unravels the story of the band and how they got involved with the antichrist through a series of interviews.
I rated this 3.5 stars. It’s a fun read, but there was nothing that blew me away. I enjoyed the interview format and think it worked well. There were a few sections where I felt like the pacing dragged, but otherwise I enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book to horror readers who enjoy books that are somewhat lighthearted/funny.
I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend it. There are multiple narrators and I think they all did a great job! I think the choice to have multiple narrators worked really well with the interview format of this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Hachette Audio for providing me a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

I enjoyed this audiobook. Story is entertaining and I like that is had multiple narrators. I find it helped a lot to get into the book.
I highly recommend.
