It was a unique retelling of two ballads/folk stories. I appreciated the author’s notes about her research and original sources: I feel like not enough retellings acknowledge their source material this way and it was really interesting and refreshing to read about the author’s process!
The stories themselves (novelette/novella length) were beautifully written and engaged with their source material in a meaningful way. I particularly liked the female friendship and characters in the „Bonny Swan” and the new take on Cinderella story in the second novella. The plot of both, however, sometimes progressed too slowly for my taste and I found myself slightly more interested in the originals than in those retellings.

Two novellas in one. In the first novella, Pamela Sherwood does an amazing job at crafting a complete story that was inspired from the ballad, The Twa Sisters. The Bonny Swan is full of suspense, mystery, sisterly friendship and a tale that will have anxious for the plot twist reveal. The story immediately hits the ground running and keeps the reader on the end of their seat.
The second novella in the book, Every Goose A Swan is a lesser known fairytale that was inspired by Cinderella. It was equally as entertaining as the first.
I really loved this author’s writing. It was beautiful and fit well with the setting of the book but still very easy to digest making it an easy, quick read.

This collection has two sweet fairy tale novellas and two much shorter stories; all four pieces are as well-written as I've come to expect from Sherwood! There's a lilting, historical-ish, classic fairy tale flavour to the writing that really suits the tone of the retellings, and some lovely characters moments. I definitely recommend to fans of traditional retellings.

A Twist in the Tale 2 by Pamela Sherwood is such a good story... I totally recommend everyone to read this book as fast as they can because it's really good and the characters are fantastic.
