I’m a Cara Black fan and have read all her books however, this title is not even close to the others that she’s written. It’s confusing, the story line is all over the place, the characters are not well developed; the best chapter is the last one when I finally saw the writer that I’ve come to enjoy. I know she was trying to give her character Aimee Leduc a backstory but this didn’t work. A disappointment.

I found this book dark and disturbing. There was very little life to enjoy (and events for the reader to enjoy). It was confusing at times, I was a little lost as to where this was going. I also had trouble keeping up with the many characters, who was good and who was bad, and the switching timelines. If it hadn’t been so depressing, I probably would have felt differently about it. I read a lot of WWII books, but this one was not my cup of tea.
The author definitely knows how to write, I just didn’t care for the story. But others might!
Many thanks to Soho Press and NetGalley for an ARC. All opinions are my own. I was not required to leave a positive review.
