For the most part I found this one overwrought and tiresome. Instead of being intrigued by the decline of this family, sympathetic to their struggles, I was annoyed by them The aunt and the sister are utterly oblivious, seeming not to notice the filth and despair that surrounds them. The house is infested. THe electricity gets turned off. Yet they go along as if this were nothing concerning. The protagonist is abrasive, selfish, and a different sort of oblivious. In spite of every sign to the contrary she persists in her belief that things can go back to normal. I felt like there were a lot of missed opportunities, plot directions that were started and then abandoned. Instead it goes the entirely expected directions.
