This is a slow burn MMF fantasy. The princess, Jory, has a childhood best friend, Asher, who lost his status in the royal household when his mother is accused of orchestrating Jory’s mother, the queen, making it more difficult for them to see one another. Jory is forced into a political marriage with King Ky. The three of them must navigate their developing relationships as well as the political machinations that out their lives at risk.

Fast paced story line, but slow burn romance. It ended with a bit of a cliffhanger, so there will be a sequel.

Great audio narration.

I picked up this audiobook excited for a new adult romantasy by Brigid Kemmerer, instead of their usually YA writing, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. The writing and characters felt more YA than adult, and the themes and content were adult leaning, so this made for a confusing distortion as a reader. I listened through the female main characters POV and I felt that the voice displayed as young and like many other fmc I’ve tirelessly heard before and was unimpressed with their characterization. Therefore, I don’t know if this is the authors or audiobook speakers fault for making this adult book feel young and repetitive. Also, I’m not a fan of a love-triangle either and this book has that heavily.

Brigid Kemmerer provided us with a fantastic debut into the adult reading world. Warrior Princess Assassin follows our Princess who is determined to do everything she can to support her country. The only thing she has been raised to believe this is would be to marry the Warrior King of a neighboring kingdom. Both are fending off advances from the same enemy and the leaders are hoping for mutual benefits. But when an assassin is sent to create chaos instead of harmony, the Warrior, Princess, and the assassin find they must work together to keep war from spreading into the peaceful parts of their kingdoms. Full of interesting twists and an excellent slow burn romance, I ate up this book. Since this is the first in the series the worldbuilding was decent, but not as fully fleshed out as I hope we get in the rest of the series. This first installment let us really get to know the characters (though I hope for more Asher as we continue on!). I already cannot wait for the rest of this series!

This was a quick, entertaining read, which is exactly what I needed at the time I started it. My favorite character was Ky, maybe because he felt the most real to me. I've read one of Brigid Kemmerer's books before and really liked her writing style and world building. Going into this book, I was aware that it focused on a polyamorous relationship, so that didn't take me by surprise like it seems to be doing to a few other readers.

While I did find the book to be entertaining, I did have a few things that stood out to me. Since this is Kemmerer's first adult novel, I did feel that the writing skewed more YA. I've noticed this a lot with authors who are transitioning from YA to adult, and as much as I love their work, I do find it a bit disappointing. It feels like they're verging into adult simply so they can add spice into what's basically a YA novel at its core. (And this isn't aimed solely at Kemmerer, it's simply an observation I've made recently.)

I really, really liked the relationship between Asher and Ky. The tension was fantastic along with the development of their relationship. Honestly, I could have done without Jory. She's feeling like a bit of a third wheel to me.

My last comment is about the twist/cliffhanger. It wasn't as shocking as it was maybe meant to be? Afterward, I glanced at a few other reviews and people seemed so surprised, it made me think I missed something. I felt it was pretty obvious, which isn't a bad thing, but I'm not necessarily itching for the second book.

Oh, and I forgot to mention how much I loved the narrators! They all did a great job and I was pleasantly surprised to realize that Teddy Hamilton was one of them.

4.5 stars

The narrators were amazing and really brought this story to life. This book focuses more on the dynamic of the three main characters with plot secondary. I was absolutely absorbed into this story and I can't wait for the next one.

4.25/5 Warrior Princess Assassin had me from the start and kept my interest the entire way through. I went into this one knowing nothing about the story and was delighted to find that it was not your typical love triangle Romantasy but is shaping up to be an MMF poly relationship and I am here for it. The romance was a slow burn and the characters had delicious tension and banter so that checked a bunch of boxes for me. I probably would have read it in one sitting if I could have stayed awake.

This book was very much about building the world and the characters - not so much about moving the plot forward. Very much a book 1 so if you are looking for a ton of action in this one you are going to be disappointed but if you are a fan of books that take the time to develop the main and secondary characters this one will be for you. Looking forward to seeing where Brigid takes us in Book 2.

The audiobook was great! Loved the narrators and the absolutely contributed to be overall enjoyment of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperAudio for the advanced copy of the audiobook.

Well, this was definitely a change up from what I expected- in a very fun way.
Warrior- King Maddox, needs an alliance to help his people, Princess Jory is being married off by her elder brother to seal that alliance and to help protect her people and assasin Asher just wants to save his childhood friend Jory from orders he's received to kill both her and Maddox.
A flight into the snow, a precarious alliance, a burgeoning love triangle and intrigue from all side as they journey across the land to Maddox's home fuels the story, which is much more character than plot driven,
Overall, exciting, fun characters and that ending- can't wait to see what they get up to in book 2!

Warrior Princess Assassin by Brigid Kemmerer is everything you could possibly want from an adult romantasy novel. The burning passion between characters mixed the dark secrets of each warring kingdom raise the stakes of their tenuous treaty. With treacherous travel conditions and hired assassins, the characters must gain each others trust—at least enough to make it out alive.

*This novel is quite dark. Please check trigger warnings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5

Warrior Princess Assassin is a fantasy romance brimming with action, adventure, and romantic tension.

While I enjoyed many parts of this one, some parts fell flat for me. The characters were well-developed and vivid, but I sometimes found it difficult to connect to Jory and Asher. That said, I devoured the romance, which was filled with tantalizing tension and an addictive slow burn. The plot and world-building were intriguing, but the execution and development felt similar to Kemmerer’s YA releases, and even though I loved her YA novels, I found myself losing interest in the familiarity of this one. Brigid Kemmerer’s prose was beautifully vibrant and compelling, presenting a fast-paced and entertaining read. I would recommend this one to fans of romantasy novels, and I will certainly give the sequel a read!

Teddy Hamilton, Abigail Reno, and Aaron Shedlock were fantastic narrators for this one. Their voices fit the characters well, and I loved the emotion and excitement they brought to the story. I highly recommend the audiobook!

Thank you to the publisher for the free ALC!

Thanks to HarperAudio Adult and NetGalley for an advanced copy!

I have liked a lot of Brigid Kemmerer's YA books, so I was excited for this one. Sadly, this one was not my favorite. I went into it not expecting the romance dynamic, so that was off-putting. Overall, it was well written and a good story, just not what I was expecting or wanting.

Thank you for the ARC!! I’ve gotta say, I was absolutely not expecting what I just read… But I liked it! This is on the romance-heavy side, and it’s also 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 character-driven. The book spends a lot of time developing the characters/their relationships more than the plot. There is a plot, but it takes the back seat. I’d say this is more of a romance with a fantasy setting vs a true “romantasy,” though it’s still very fun.

I didn’t look too far into the marketing before reading and was pleasantly surprised by the MMF dynamic. I love when authors branch out and do a true poly relationship vs “why choose.” Both of the MMCs are such green flags and so respectful to each other and the FMC. Just read the trigger warnings because one of the characters experiences a lot of abuse and trauma.

I wish we had more of a satisfying ending, both with the plot and with the romance. The main twist wasn’t really a twist… I called it from chapter one, so that was a bit disappointing. However, I see that this is the first in a series, which means we will more than likely get more political intrigue and plot in the next book.

All in all, this was an enjoyable book! I think readers will absolutely fall in love with the characters.

This was so entertaining! If you like romantasy and need more romance than fantasy, this is it. I love Brigid Kemmerer's writing, and the narrators are amazing.

So much tension, will they/won't they, banter and feelings of betrayal. I almost wish Ky and Asher ditched Jory and ran off together. I was shipping them so hard!!!

This isn't high fantasy, epic quests, but there is some magic and I felt like it was a great place to start the trilogy. A little world building and a lot of character background and growth has already occured.

The teaching scene 🥵 wow!

I wasn't surprised by much, but that did not disappoint me at all. The clues are subtle and I loved how it ended. I am so excited to see where this trilogy goes.

when i read the title “warrior princess assassin” never did i imagine the warrior, princess, and assassin in question were a poly m/m/f why choose!

there wasn’t much of a plot although the vibes were def there and this is much more a character driven beginning to the series (i can’t wait to see how this develops further). it is also steamy as FUCK i won’t lie this had me clutching my pearls in the best way 🔥🥵

i read this in like, two solid sittings and im appalled how kemmerer went from her ya series (which i adored) to THIS. 100% recommend but please check trigger warnings xx

Man, I really loved Kemmerer's YA stuff and couldn't keep them on the shelf at my library. This one, though...it was SO boring. I did not feel the chemistry between these characters, and the story was bare bones. How did she take 400 pages to tell such little story? It is truly baffling to me. This was a story about a week in the life of some really traumatized dudes and a very sheltered girl. They did some stuff, but mostly they wandered in the snow for a while and shot longing glances each other's way. There was supposedly some chemistry between them, but I couldn't find it. The end.

This was such an unexpectedly good read! The plotline kept me guessing, the will-they-or-won't-they was exciting, writing was excellent, an all-around great read. The audiobook narrators were excellent and really set the mood for the tone of the book. I'm definitely looking forward to the next two installments of this series!

This book was a romance but also a really well built interesting fantasy world. The relationships with the main characters but also the side characters was amazing. I am excited to see what happens next. This was less romance focused than I thought it would be.

A fresh and unexpected twist on classic romantasy.
I don’t want to give too much away, but this story took a turn I wasn’t expecting—and definitely didn’t follow the usual love triangle formula. The characters were all compelling, and the pacing was strong throughout, keeping me fully engaged from start to finish.

OH,
MY,
LORDDD

Romantasy Throuple. That’s kinda all you need to know about this book. Rival kingdoms, arranged marriages, the assassin with a dark past and a heart of gold? So many tropes all put into one book. It goes by fast, and it’s simple in a way that’s super satisfying to the lizard brain. Not the deepest world building or most unique plot twists but absolutely scratches the itch for a fantasy heavy on the romance.

Spice is explicit but slow burn. This is largely tension until the very end of the book. MMF couple, I’m guessing there’s another book coming… I’ll definitely be reading it.

Audio- obviously 5/5. Great narrators perfect for the genre
