While parenting is different between every parent and child
This depicts the distinct joy of fathering (mostly ) boys.
Especially Black fathers of boys.
I am aware that the stereotype of the absentee Black father is just so much bollocks,
but the derisive image remains.
The photographs in this book are nothing short of beautiful.
We see the delight and joy of these fathers and their children.
The sheer beauty of it is uplifting.

A beautiful celebration of black fatherhood and based on an exhibition which broke records in attendance for the gallery.

The picture quality is great and it spans a wide range of ages, cultures, decades and countries. There are pictures in several African countries and several North American cities. Some pictures are recent and some are from the 80s and capture fathers in all walks of life.

Included with the pictures are little notes from the photographer about the role of fatherhood, which again has a lot of variety and shows the spectrum. Some have fathers that were absent, some had very present role models, some are trying to break the cycle and some are finding out what it means to be a "girl dad" or a "boy dad".

Some of my favourite pictures were the children in the barbers shop - showing fathers at work with their children nearby. A recurring theme in the photographers notes is being present. It is something they want so badly for their kids, or something they were able to achieve by pure chance during lockdown etc. Some had it themselves, some had bonus fathers or grandfathers who stepped up and some are trying to give their children what they themselves lacked in childhood.

Lovely effort by Imani M. Cheers to compile so many stories and pictures celebrating black fathers and loving family relationships. This book is beautiful to leaf through and the pictures are high quality and well presented.

This is a beautiful coffee table book. At a time when black bodies are being bastardized, I love this display of emotion, vulnerability, and family. Kudos to all the photographers. I also love that there were older film photographs included.

Beautiful images. Brought a smile to my face. The essays were ok. The names of the photographers separated by section took away from the immersive experience I was having.

A heartwarming concept—a lovely book. I adore this collection of pictures of fathers and sons, daughters. The little snippets of text when introducing a new photographer are also nice to read, and these men sound very healthy which is a delight in this world.

However, the e-book format (if there is going to be one for sale) needs to be edited, as in: add one page after the cover page, because as it is now, I suspect I was seeing the wrong page pairs.

Also, in general I don't *love* photo albums with the 'collected works' concept as that way we only get small glimpses into multiple artists' work as opposed to one deep look into one artist's work—however, this book is well-executed in the way that all these photographers' photos of fatherhood are nicely collected and organized into this album. One small feedback I have about this is that for 1-2 photographers, there are only a couple of pictures, and then we already move on to the next photographer—this is way too fast and little for me; in this case, I would've preferred that artist to not be included in the album at all, then.

Overall, a well-executed and insightful collection of photos of fatherhood!
