Sweet, compassionate, and practical help for bedtime anxious kids and their parents! I know my children will benefit from Charlie’s story, but I have been helped by it too. Charlie’s parents’ response to his bedtime fears was both comfort and challenge to me as I shepherd my kids through anxious bedtimes!

Charlie is such a relatable kid! His story will resonate with kids and parents alike, and give parents everywhere a vocabulary to help their kiddos at bedtime.
The illustrations are beautiful, too!

such a sweet spiritual book for little ones explaining that we are always cared for, even as we sleep and when we are afraid.

Loved this book! The illustrations are precious, and the words are beautiful. Rachel weaves beautiful truths about God from Psalm 121 throughout the story. I would definitely reread this book. And I can see myself buying it to gift at baby showers for my friends.

The beginning felt a bit lengthy, which might resonate with some readers’ fears. I really appreciated the inclusion of scripture, particularly Psalms 121. It’s such a heartwarming children’s book that addresses bedtime anxiety and emphasizes trust in God. The writing is filled with love and compassion, and the illustrations are beautifully detailed. I received a complimentary e-copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

What a beautiful reminder of God's faithfulness! I hope this books finds its way to all those who need to remember that we are never alone, young and old alike.

I could use this for my kids storytelling time before going to bed!
I like it that this book is written for little children let's say from age 5 to 10. If from a tender age, a child learns to pray and trust God to take away his fears and guide him then, the child would grow into adult with a doubtless faith in God.
I like the pictures used to illustrate the story but not all pictures showed what was said by the characters. If the pictures could be made to match with the action, for instance "But creaky, whirring, whispering sounds..." the picture there was about money which wasn't what was being talked about at the time. I think it will create a clearer picture in the minds of the kids when reading the book.
Above all, this book has a gentle and reassuring tone which seeks to remind us that there is a true God who is always by our side, watching over us no matter what the case might be.

The art was really great! It reminded me of how picture books looked when I was a kid and it made me very nostalgic as I was flipping through it. I don't identify as a Christian (I'm agnostic at best), but that didn't hinder my thoughts while reading this. While I can't personally relate to the message the story conveys, I like the idea that even when they're alone and scared, there's someone watching over them so they don't have to actually be alone and scared.
If there's people who think like me, and don't really want to push religion on their kids, this probably isn't the best book to add to their nighttime reading routine. But for other Christians or people who aren't bothered by their children reading things like this, I think this makes for a great bedtime story!

An incredibly sweet children’s book on bedtime anxiety and trusting god. Lovingly and compassionately written, accompanied by beautifully detailed illustrations.

I requested this book to read with my son before bed, my son rather enjoyed this book, he said he could relate to how Charlie felt when it was bed time and it made him feel better and safer for bed tonight.
Overall I think this a great bed time book for younger ones.

Charlie Can't Sleep would be a nice book for children (and their parents) who are experiencing fear with the dark. Especially if they are religious. I could see it bringing some comfort. I do not think this book is for the masses, but is perfect for those who struggle with the fear of the dark and the scary ways our mind can mess with us because of it. The illustrations were nice. I received an eARC from InterVaristy Press through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
