Thank you, Severn House, for providing the copy of The Bluest Night by Aaron Phillip Clark. I read the first book in this series and loved it, but nothing prepared me for this one. I’m still reeling from the diabolical plot, which is not for the faint of heart. The characters were well-defined, and whether you loved them or hated them you’ll never forget them. Full of shocking revelations, this book was impossible to put down. 5 stars

Former LAPD detective turned private investigator Trevor Finnegan discovers he has a half-brother Avery from his father Shaun's second family and then Avery and his girlfriend Keisha go missing before they reach Malibu for a family reunion. Keisha is found dead, and Avery is the prime suspect.
Trevor and Shaun try and help with the case, despite the resistance of the regular police.
The plot is exciting, with the characters all keeping secrets from Trevor, and there are some truly horrible crimes uncovered.
I haven't read the earlier books, but didn't feel that detracted from my enjoyment of the story.
It's well written and fast paced, and the ending is good.

The third book of the series is OUTSTANDING! The storyline, the characters, everything was perfectly done. Aaron Philip Clark could close out the series the way he ended it, and I would be okay with it. I believe he still has room to add one more story to the series. (I truly hope he does another installment!)

The creepiest thing about the book, though, was one part of the story that was mentioned that gave me the chills! But, I still love this book overall.

Note, if you decide to get this book, it could be read as a standalone. If you want more history of the protagonist, Trevor Finnegan, you should start at the beginning.

This novel is clearly a follow-up but it still works as a standalone. It's a torrid story told well. In pursuit of answers to his questions, the main character has to juggle his way through the hang-ups and lies of others which adds to the tension. This book is a good, easy read with a satisfying ending. Also, I was pleased to gain an insight into what life can still be like for black people in parts of America.

First, I highly recommend folks read the first two books in
this good series because I feel I missed out on a lot of
the personal background and career development of
our two main characters.
This is a raw, real police suspense fiction, less procedural
but very well crafter. My gasps were audible, more
than a few times~shock, horror & relief got me!
This is not the easiest but every bit of it makes sense
if you’re at all familiar with the culture and the means
By which people can even their life scores.

A hard hitting thriller that sees PI Trevor Finnegan delving into a murder case involving a half brother whose very existence is a shock and there’s plenty more of those down the road. Trevor’s dad, a recovering alcoholic is along for the ride and although their relationship bristles with animosity, there is an understanding between them that they will face their trials together.

The investigation into the murder itself is multilayered and utterly engrossing with some truly nefarious characters.
