Reading Shari Low’s books is like reading about your neighbours’ shenanigans or watching your favourite soaps. They are fun, relatable, over the top and interesting stories.

One Snowy Day follows the stories of several villagers in Weirbridge, where most of the author’s stories are set. It takes place in one day and that one day was packed- lives changed, friendship made, love found and secrets exposed.

I love that there is always an intro at the beginning with the list of the characters. There and then you know who is who and what to expect.

I enjoyed the multiple POVs and the celebration of Scottish culture as is the case with all the author’s books.

This was a page turner and captivating from start to finish.

Even though I read this book on one of the hottest and sunniest days of the year, it immersed me in the chilly, snowy Scottish village full of community, family drama and lifelong friends. Featuring a host of familiar characters and some notable new ones, this is an emotional, time-sensitive story that affects many lives in a close-knit Scottish village community. I love the family dynamics, the close friendships and how they come together in times of adversity. The humour is plentiful and relatable, the poignant moments heartbreaking, and the love that binds them together tangible, making this an entertaining, uplifting tale that resonates with the reader.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

One Snowy Day is a heartwarming RomCom about love, loss, life changes and enduring friendships. I was really interested to find that it was a one day story, which was something I had not read before, but really enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Boldwood books for access to this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This lovely author contacted me, asking if I would be interested in reading/reviewing her book, published last year. Now I’m going to be honest … I wouldn’t have known this was a debut book, if the author hadn’t said!! The story was great and dealt with loss, relationships, friendships and even though there was some sad bits … the funny/happy bits spirally made up for it. I just loved the 2 main characters. I messaged the author after I had read , saying I would love a follow up book. So much more story about Claire and the other main characters. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚. Sypnosis - It’s the noughties and Claire Morris is a Sugababes loving, Leonardo DiCaprio fancying, flip-phone using, London party girl… until her dad dies unexpectedly.

Everything changes in a moment.

He was her entire family. It was Claire and her dad against the world, after her mum walked out when she was little.

Claire Morris is Completely Lost.

Consumed by grief and guilt, Claire quits her hectic London life and rents a cosy cottage in the rural Peak District village of Baliston.

She ends up befriending Hazel Wilson, a local widow with a wicked sense of humour, and Sebastian Jones, who has returned to Baliston to run his family’s farm. He’s annoying and kinda gorgeous. Despite repeatedly bumping heads, Claire and Sebastian can’t help but get along, and an unlikely romance begins.

Can Claire rebuild her life in Derbyshire, while finding time for love and a new friendship? Or is she running away from her problems?

One Snowy Day is another wonderful read by Shari Low. Shari is one of these authors that I don’t even read the blurb for her books as I know without doubt I’m going to love it. As the title suggests everything that happens in this book occurs in one day. Yes there is a lot happening but I found it very easy to follow and not at any time did my interest in this story wane. Again like her previous books there are a number of characters and one thing I love is that Shari at the start of her books gives a character synopsis . So this can be easily referred back to if needs be. Each of the characters have a big part to play in the story and as we progress through the book we find maybe a small connection between them all. This is a standalone book but if you’ve read any of Shari’s previous books you’ll recognise some characters we have met before. This book was for me an absolute joy to read.

There’s a list of characters at the beginning of the book which, I must admit, did put me off a bit as it was extremely long! However, once I started the book, I was glad it was there as I needed it and it was helpful! It is a heartwarming , feel-good story. An enjoyable read.

One Snowy Day*
by Shari Lo

One Snowy Day is a collection of four interconnected stories that unfold over the course of a single snowy day, segmented into two-hour intervals. Each narrative thread intricately weaves with the others, creating a rich tapestry of experiences and emotions.

Jessie McLean finds herself caught in a whirlwind of emotions as she counts down the hours until her long-anticipated departure to a sunny retirement destination. Yet, as the clock ticks, memories of her past life and the relationships she is leaving behind begin to weigh heavily on her heart.

Georgie Dern stands at a crossroads, contemplating a golden opportunity to transfer her skills to a dream job in the USA. However, the thought of abandoning her mother's beloved Hair salon is giving her second thoughts.. This internal conflict forces her to reassess her dreams and obligations as the snow continues to blanket the world outside.

Alyssa Canavan has dedicated years to nurturing her beloved cafe, pouring her heart into every dish she makes. But her world is turned upside down when a legal letter threatens her hard-earned livelihood and the very roof over her head. As she grapples with uncertainty, she has to hold a large birthday party in the cafe.

Lachlan Morden feels an irresistible pull to return to Scotland, a place fraught with painful memories and unresolved conflicts. As he prepares to confront the individuals who nearly shattered his spirit, he must also navigate the emotional landscape of forgiveness and loss.

While I had anticipated a more wintery and festive atmosphere throughout the book, I found it lacking that spirit. The book meandered in ways that didn't fully resonate with me, and I struggled to forge a connection with a couple of the characters. At times, I found myself skimming through paragraphs, eager to dive into the next individual’s storyline in hopes of finding a deeper engagement with their journeys.

The winter season is approaching in the Scottish village of Weirbridge where a retirement party will soon be underway. Four central characters in Shari Low’s latest novel have lives that intersect. This is a story of second chances that brings to its readers Georgie, Alyssa, Jessie and Lachlan. In one short day, all of their lives undergo momentous changes.

A party for Jessie’s will soon be underway, combining her retirement, birthday and going away. While this should be an happy day for Jessie, she is experiencing more than a bit of reticence with her plan to leave her beauty salon in the hands of her daughter, Georgie. The salon has done well over the years, and will no doubt continue to do so. However, the sheer thought of leaving her shop, as well as the village, brings her no joy.

Georgie always planned to take over her mother’s salon. However, she has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that would take her away from the small village where she has lived her entire life. She is experiencing empty nest syndrome, and with the looming opportunity before her, the timing could not be better. But what to do about the salon?

Then there is Alyssa. She has done a fabulous job creating a warm and cozy café called Once Upon a Time. When she opens a letter informing her that she has 60 days to vacate due to the death of the owner, she is devastated. Meanwhile, Lachlan, the owner’s son, has breezed into town with the intent of getting the property off of his hands quickly and getting back to his life. Lachlan wants his business cut short post-haste and hasn’t got time to consider what might happen to Alyssa and her café. While her focus had been on hosting Jessie’s party, she is understandably distracted.

All of the character’s in this story are easy to relate to, and this includes Lachlan and his rush to get his father’s property off of his hands. This smooth read was a delightful experience, thus whetting my appetite for future books by Shari Low.

Many thanks to Boldwood Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I really love Shari Low's writing style, the entire book in a day! Her books move quickly, hold your interest, and make you want to keep reading. She builds stories by layering characters, relationships, places, and situations. Each of her books can be read as a standalone but in most of them you will find characters from previous books making a reappearance. Ollie and Moira, Georgie, jessie, and Alyssa some of the characters that reappear in this book set in the small and charming Scottish town of Weirbridge. New characters are introduced, unfortunate circumstances arise, hilarity ensues, surprises and secrets are revealed, and all is well in the end. A heartwarming feel good story.

Loved this story about Jessie who is retiring giving her daughter Georgie the hair salon. In the meantime Georgie offered a job in America with the TV star Ollie Chillas. Jessie and Sam are supposed retiring to their summer home on an island. See how that goes . Follow this family's journey and see how it turns out. Then there is Alyssa, who runs the Once Upon a time Cafe, who gets a 60 day notice to vacate as the owner has died. See how how these characters come together. This is the first time I have read this author and will be reading more of her book. A VERY GOOD READ.

A cute, feel good read set in one day from 10am to midnight. Multiple characters make it a bit a bit difficult to keep track of the storylines, but overall it’s a satisfying book with an epilogue that ties up the ends nicely.
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the arc for review.

Favorite Quotes:

‘I’m surprised you’re not doing a Joan Collins, luxuriating in your bed until lunchtime, wrapped in white fake fur, with thirty-year-old oiled-up bodybuilders feeding you grapes. Actually, I don’t know that Joan Collins does that, but I like to imagine it that way.’ ‘I’m not having oiled-up bodybuilders anywhere near my bed, thank you.’ Jessie countered. ‘I’d need to boil wash my sheets and it would take the pattern right off my duvet cover.’

...the little devil on her other shoulder hadn’t been able to get past hoping that Monica would dump him on his arse and he’d wither away, loveless and sexless until his penis fell off. The devil watched too many crime shows.

Being a lawyer must be like being a doctor, she imagined. As soon as people at dinner parties knew what you did, they wanted to ask your advice on their speeding ticket or their piles.

My Review:

This was a fun and wryly amusing read that was stuffed to the gills with engaging and entertaining storylines that converged in a brilliant and highly satisfying manner. Shari Low is a clever wordsmith and weaves absorbing, well-honed, and insightfully written tales that are laced together with witty humor and perceptive observations, while populated with admirable and endearing characters doing their best to get ahead while handling problematic family members. Every time I pick up one of her books, I want to stop time and rearrange my schedule to do nothing else but read her entire listing.

It seems that everybody in Weirbridge is looking forward to the party of the year!

As with all the books in this loosely related series, it takes place over 24 hours. In this book, Jessie and Stan are leaving tomorrow for Tenerife, their dream retirement location. But as Jessie readies for her combination birthday and going away party, she's having doubts.

Lots is going on for others as well. Georgie, who is Jessie's daughter has a career decision to make. Alyssa just received some paperwork that could destroy the cafe, a business she loves and happens to be the site of tonight's party. And Lachlan, not a village resident but pivotal to the story, is having a bad day of his own.

I love the way all the individual stories intertwine, and how the village members support each other. The friendships are everlasting and the family love is always there, even if there is bickering from time to time. Highly recommend this series!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

I don't know about you but sometimes it can feel like not much happens in our lives in a day, or even a week, but for the inhabitants of the small village of Weirbridge in Scotland, that couldn't be further from the truth on 1 December.

Jessie McLean has worked hard to build up a hairdressing business in the town. She has many regular clients who have become friends, the salon has been decorated to the highest standard, and her daughter, Georgie has worked with her for years. Now, it is time for Jessie to retire and 1 December is her retirement party day, but it is something she is not looking forward to. Her husband, Stan, has decided that they are going to retire to Tenerife. Nothing but endless days of sunshine ahead with lots of golf for Stan. Jessie is trying to be excited about this move, but the reality is that she doesn't really want to go. How will she cope without seeing her daughter every day like she has for years? How will she manage without being able to see her best friends regularly?

As for Georgie, she is really pleased that she has been able to take over her mum's business. Georgie has had a tough few years after her husband left her to go and find himself. Now, her daughter has left home so Georgie is an empty nester, but her ex-husband is back and he also wants to come back to Georgie. What she hasn't told anyone is that she has had an offer to go and be an on-set hairdresser with a major Hollywood star. It's an attractive offer which would mean living in Los Angeles and other locations, and is very tempting but how can she take the job when it means closing the salon that she has just taken over from her mother permanently.

Across the road from the salon, Alyssa has poured her heart and soul into creating the Once Upon a Book cafe. The walls are lined with bookshelves filled with books that customers can read while having their coffees. Alyssa's day gets off to a terrible start when she reads a letter that has been sent to her from an estate lawyer advising her that she has 60 days to vacate her premises following the death of the owner.

When the late owner's son Lachlan shows up to the cafe as he takes a trip down memory lane, Alyssa can't help but confront him. He doesn't really want to be in Scotland at all. He was summoned to Glasgow to hear the reading of the will. While he couldn't care less about what he might inherit from his father's estate, his brother Jason is adamant that he has to liquidate any assets immediately, and that means that Alyssa's cafe's operational days are numbered. All of this is happening on the day that she has to host Jessie's going away party and suddenly she also has to be her sister's taxi driver given how bad the weather is! No wonder she was quite antagonistic towards him.

As the day progresses, preparations continue for the party which basically the whole village is attending, lives are changed, secrets that have been kept for decades are revealed and dreams come true. The book is structured in a way that we see what is happening with each of the characters at various 2 hour blocks on this particularly momentous, and yes, snowy day.

This is the third book I have read by Shari Low and this was another fun ensemble piece . There are a variety of characters who represent people at varying stages in life from those contemplating the golden years of retirement to those trying to start or restart their lives and with multiple different issues that they are facing.

Shari Low seems to have a habit of populating her books with characters that have appeared in earlier books. Whilst I was familiar with some of them, like the irrepressible Moira Chiles who has appeared in the previous two books I read, there were others who I was not familiar with. I think that this is a case where there are crossover characters in multiple books but it doesn't stop you from still enjoying the story. I will be going back through Shari Low's back list at some point, and of course reading anything new she puts out in the future.

I am sharing this review with the New Release Challenge hosted at The Chocolate Lady's Book Reviews. Be sure to check out other stops on the tour shown below. Thanks to the publisher, Netgalley and Rachel's Random Resources for the review copy.

Another brilliant feel good read by Shari Low. Lots of characters which at first I thought I was going to struggle with but it was so thoughtfully written it was like you were actually present - full of humour bits of sadness and lots of family issues loved it and highly recommend

I know when I start a book by Shari Low that I am in for a treat. Her books are written in such a great way with lots of individual storylines which overlap and cleverly link together throughout the book.
The characters are always a diverse range and interesting, always with some familiar ones from previous books.
Each book can be read as a standalone but I love reading them in their publication order and finding out how some of the characters appear in the next book.
Stories of love , friendship and family ties narrated with humour, emotion and realism.
This latest book was no exception. I absolutely loved and cannot wait for the next book from this talented author.

This was such a warm, comforting read—despite the snowy title. It describes a day in the life of a Scottish village, centering on the family and friends of Jessie McLean, who is facing a new life in retirement. She spends the day laughing through her tears, trying to fix the futures of her family while embracing her own.

I loved this book. There is literally a character and a storyline for everyone in all stages of life. The plot was a bit of a whirlwind, with people jumping in and out at will. But everyone and everything resolves at the end, and I finished the book with a sign of satisfaction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Shari Low is usually a solid 4 or 5-star author for me, but sadly this one didn’t quite hit the mark. I found the story a little slow, and with so many characters, I occasionally felt confused—though I did enjoy the cameos from familiar faces in her previous books.

I was also expecting a more wintery, festive feel, but that didn’t really come through for me.

That said, it was still heartwarming and a quick read, and I always enjoy Shari's writing style. This one just fell a little flat compared to her others.

One Snowy Day was a story that had so many emotions in it, and I felt each one. The characters all have a part to play in the unfolding of the story. The author does a great job of making them all fit together and made the book one that will stay with me long after finishing this book.
Thank you Shari Low and Boldwood Books for the copy of One Snowy Day. This is my personal review.
