When all elements of a book click, you get a fabulous book with an endearing romance. Murdock has been nailing every single book thus far in this unconventional Chance family series. Her characters have flaws, they are nice, practical and just work well. The pacing and development of romance in this book was just correct!!

Well worth your time

This is the kind of book that makes you sigh happily and then immediately want to reread your favorite scenes. Lady Evelyn Chance is an unapologetic artist who’d rather wield a paintbrush than a fan, even if it means scandalizing the ton. When she secretly advertises for a male model, she never expects someone like Richard Sempill to show up—tall, handsome, and infuriatingly inclined to stay clothed.

The chemistry between these two is everything. Richard, with his mysterious past and quiet intensity, is the perfect foil for Evelyn’s fiery creativity. The way their relationship unfolds—through late-night painting sessions that turn into something far more intimate—had me grinning like a fool. I loved how Evelyn saw the world (and Richard) through an artist’s eyes, and how he, in turn, was the first person to truly see her as more than just a rebellious noblewoman.

Of course, secrets never stay buried in Regency romances, and when Richard’s true identity comes out, the fallout is angsty. But what I loved most was how their conflict wasn’t just about miscommunication—it was about trust, vulnerability, and choosing love over fear. Which of course requires a grand rom-com gesture.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dragonblade for the ARC—opinions are all my own.

This was a very lighthearted and sweet story about an artistic Emily and Richard, who is rediscovering who he is after wrapping up his previous life. They fall in love slowly and their interactions and revelations are incredibly open and well written. There is very little angst (aside from a brief late break up) and that made the story especially easy flowing for me. I loved the interactions with family and friends and general lack of conventionality in the characters and story itself. As usual for this author, there is a modest amount of well-written steam. Great standalone book but look forward to reading about other characters in this series!

Thanks to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for the advance copy of this delightful book!

Another book in the series and an immediate "must-read" for me, The Chances is a family very unusual in society, not only in the way noble titles are handed down but also in the way each member of the family is so singular

This is the turn of Lady Evelyn Chance, who lives only to paint the world around her and can't get anyone to take her seriously and model for her. Until she have the idea to put an add in the newspaper without her name
.
The man who answers that advertisement is tall, handsome, rough around the edges, and far too perceptive. And even if he refuses to take his clothes off, Evelyn can't help but feel intrigued and want to paint every detail.
.
Richard didn't know what to expect when he answered the ad, except to break away from his monotonous routine by sitting for someone. But Evelyn isn't just out of the ordinary; she's the most intriguing and wonderful person he's met in a long time and with every minute he spends in her chair, he debates whether to tell her more than her name and that he definitely doesn't need to get paid
.
Each book in this series is part of a puzzle I enjoy putting together. Emilky E. K. Murdoch amazes me with the array of diverse characters she creates; no two are alike, and her stories have as many unexpected paths as moments that remain etched in my mind.
.
I'll simply never tire of recommending her books, especially this series.
.
thanks to Emily E. K. Murdoch and her team at Dragonblade for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion

An artist and her model!
I loved this romance. I have always been attracted to artist protagonists, and this one is no exception. Evelyn, the heroine, is an artist through and through, and Richard, the hero, is « her » model.
They developed a closeness that grows. As an artist, she uses her ability to look through him, to his soul. Although he has no artistic talent, Richard discovers his alter ego in Evelyn and fully supports her in her creative development. They complement each other so well.
I found the story exciting and enthralling. I highly recommend this romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The word that comes to mind about this book is "Delightful" and then it is followed by "Unique". This storyline is refreshing, fun and meaningful. It touched all my senses with it's fully robust main characters, Evelyn and Richard. Each of these characters struggle in areas of their life either wanting to forget or to be seen and acknowledged for ones talent.

Evelyn cracked me up with her artist eye and how she responded to Richard. She caused me to laugh throughout the book. I am sure this was very confusing for Richard but it was exactly what he needed. Personally I could never sit still that long. I give Richard lots of kudos for that.

The author does an outstanding job of showing in vivid descriptive words the pain both of these characters have for different reasons. I read this book in one sitting and it was worth the loss of sleep. I could not put it down.

I give this 5 STARS for the deep felt emotions it brought forth.

This is the next installment about the lives of the Chance family. A family high in the social standings but also not the norm with their own characteristics that make them stand out. This is the story of Evelyn an artist desperate to improve her style of painting the human body so she places an advert and Richard (a viscount) reply and this is the story of their discovery about each other and their eventual recognition that they love each other.
This is another of Emily masterpieces and I can't wait to read about more of the Chance family members.

This is a delightfully captivating story with very charismatic characters that took me into the world of a budding artist.
I liked both characters. Evelyn an unknown artist that craves recognition but needs more practice on certain elements and Richard a viscount with nothing to do accepts the role of modeling for the artist.
The two take us on romantic adventure ride that is filled with surprises, underlying emotions, growing passion, which leads to a very happy ending.
I truly enjoyed this whimsical story. He took a Chance and found the love of his life

I found it amusing that in an unconventional family, Lady Evelyn's parents were so concerned about her creating a scandal with her art and the desire to paint a human figure, especially a male. Evelyn solves her problems by advertising for a model, and then demands anonymity from him, neither of them giving details of their family background. There are laugh-out-loud moments in this romance, as well as some heartbreaking revelations, as Richard reveals his scars. As the attraction between Richard and Evelyn develops, Evelyn is surprised to find that he has a deep appreciation for her work, and for the first time, she feels that he sees her in her true light. Finally, hoist by her own petard, Evelyn feels betrayed when Richard reveals his true status, and it takes an amazing act on his part for her to finally understand how deep his feelings are for her. The novel is part of a series, but is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a sweet conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I really liked Evelyn and Richard together. I thought it was very sweet how the thing that ruled their lives the most (her being an artist and his past on the continent) also brought them some shyness/embarrassment. They accept the other and what they were willing to share without pushing for the other to share more than they were comfortable with… which made me very upset about the third act break up. And that was my only issue, Evelyn had a childish nature sometimes that was a little frustrating. Another example was how she expressed how she needed to led her family towards society norms but then she immediately acts outside of those norms. She lacked reflection of herself.

I would love a family tree!

4.5 ⭐️ A delightful historical romance, full of art, and secrets!

An Eye for the Chance is my very first historical romance, and my first Emily E K Murdoch novel — I was enchanted from the moment I read the blurb: a heroine who is a painter, a stranger who becomes her very first model, keeping his true identity secret.

I loved how the author weaves a gentle, secret-filled atmosphere, with no magical twists (I usually read fantasy romance) — just two people falling in love, naturally and beautifully. The writing style is smooth, witty, always touching.
As an art historian, I truly enjoyed every detail about painting — the heroine’s artistic gaze, her passion hidden from society, and his impressive inherited art collection, which added depth and charm to the story.

I also appreciated the moderate spice level (2/5): the few open-door scenes blend naturally into the love story and its emotional development — natural and well-placed.

This book is part of a larger series about the Chance family, and I’m already curious to read more about them!

My rating: 4.5 ⭐️ — because here, the real magic is the emotion that lingers long after the final page.

Thank you so much to Dragonblade Publishing, the author Emily E K Murdoch and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

We get another visit to this marvellous eccentric family in this historical romance. If you need cheering up then any of the books in this series will do the trick. There are seven sisters, one mischievous duke and a territorial house keeper. They all serve to entertain us and anyone who is not in the line of fire. I can't wait for the next sister to make her debut.
Great fun.

Book 7 of this series takes us on the adventure with Evelyn Chance, who is a determined artist. She hires a model, a Viscount, who is determined to keep his identity a secret. Richard and Evelyn spend time getting to know each other in this dreamy, tale with minor drama but plenty of heart. From a well known author who has a lot of heart as well as creativity, this is a lovely and joyful story.

‘An Eye for the Chance’ by Emily E.K. Murdoch is the kind of novel that pulls at your heartstrings and keeps a smile on your face while reading.

It’s enthralling, humorous, and delightful.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this breeze-of-fresh-air read.

Lady Evelyn Chance, daughter of the Earl of Lindow, is too busy scandalising the ton one portrait at a time to care about her marital prospects. She is an and like any true artist, she is determined to paint from a model so she advertises for a model. The man who answers that advertisement is tall, handsome, rough around the edges, and far too perceptive. Despite what the job entails, he refuses to take his clothes off. It’s not precisely what Evelyn had in mind, but she can’t deny he makes a fascinating subject. He is also Richard Sempill, Viscount Sempill. But Evelyn doesn’t know that.
The seventh book in the series & another well written entertaining & enjoyable romance. I really liked both Richard & Evelyn & thoroughly enjoyed their journey to a HEA. This is pure romance with very little angst or drama, no mystery to solve just two people spending time together, getting to know each other & of course fall in love
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

This seventh book is a great addition to the series and if you love art, you will enjoy Evelyn & Richard’s story even more . This was a cute story, funny and romantic and both of Evelyn and Richard were really lovely

Emily EK Murdoch has become an author I can consistently count on for a sweet historical romance. Her books are lovely and help turn my brain off with a darling, simple story. An Eye for the Chance was the seventh book in The Chances collection. It features the second generation with eldest daughter, Evelyn. She's a free spirit who is wicked with a paintbrush. She's in dire need of a model for her portfolio, but it's considered too gauche to ask members of the ton point-blank. She sends out an anonymous ad and Viscount Sempill answers it on a whim. The dynamic of artist and muse has always been a favorite of mine. It was so cool to see the roles reversed with the woman behind the easel instead of a man.

Evelyn and Richard were so sweet together. Their courtship was very tender and gentle. They were both subdued, easygoing characters. It was nice to see a couple who weren't screaming and being obnoxious towards each other. Seeing him getting jealous over her painting her cousin as Hercules in the park when Richard thought he was a potential suitor was hilarious. I did like the majority of the book, until it started to flag when they consummated their relationship. I have found this to be a very common issue that the book loses steam as soon as the sexual tension is alleviated. Considering I found a large portion of the novel favorable, I still count it as a win.

I have really enjoyed exploring the various branches of the Chance family tree. Some boughs cut do with some pruning, but I'll take what I can get. I liked Evelyn's masterpiece of love and I'm curious to see who's next in line for romance. It's also been fun to see the parents aging gracefully yet still in love since their courtship. I don't know which Chance is next for nuptials, but I'll keep an eye out!

An Eye for the Chance is the seventh book in The Chances series. The eccentric family of Chance returns again with a wonderful addition to the series.

This time we have Lady Evelyn who is an artist trying to better her skills. And the spy Richard Sempill, Viscount Sempill, who is recovering from his emotional as well as physical scars.

Lady Evelyn is tired of painting the same old things. When she cannot get a male relative to pose for her, she puts an ad in the paper, hoping for results. Her trouble is that women are not taken serious about being a true artist.

Richard, healing from his wounds, is bored. Nothing about being among the ton is interesting to him, until he sees an ad requiring a man to pose for an artist. Something about this intrigues him and he answers the ad. When he tries to introduce himself, he is told he is to remain a blank canvas to the artist. Evelyn becomes more interesting the more time he spends with her.

It is not long before they are drawn to one another, and kisses turn to something more. But when Richards identity is revealed, Evelyn feels he lied to her. Now, that Richard has found Evelyn to be the woman of his dreams he will do anything to win her back.

This couple was more interesting and fun than I expected. Seeing Evelyn express how she sees life was beautifully written. I loved this story as it unfolded. It could be my favorite of the series. But I will have to finish the series, once it is finished, before I know for certain. It certainly ranks high in the historical romance category. I highly recommend this book as well as the series. You will not be disappointed.

Evelyn is story is delightfully delicious! Richard is such a conundrum with his past and his current boredom. Modeling for Evelyn intrigues him as an artist and a woman. Their love story faces mystery and secrets, then explodes in passion. A wonderful addition to the series!
