This is a super accessible book to help elementary readers struggling with anxiety. At this point, with the rising rates of anxiety in kids I would recommend it to any library serving elementary students or middle school students who need a very accessible read. The book very thoughtfully describes the feelings that come with anxiety--in an accessible and informative way--and also gives concrete strategies with simple directions to help readers handle their big feelings. This would be great not only for a classroom, school, or public library but also as a resource for social workers, guidance counselors, therapists, occupational therapists, or others who work with children and parents. My six year old even asked to read this one. Highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC!

I read Hi Worry, Bye Worry to my six-year-old niece, and while it might have been a little advanced for her, I think it’s a wonderful story for children learning how to manage worry. For the right child, this book could be exactly what they need.

The illustrations were well-done and complemented the story nicely. The book is reflective and thoughtfully written, offering kids practical tools to understand and handle their worries. It helps children feel safe and supported when navigating these emotions.

Overall, a good read with a meaningful lesson! Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review.

This wants to be a chapter book about worries, about letting them in because they have something to say we should be listening to, but how we can also diminish them if we recognise and understand them. I wanted this to succeed a fair bit more than it does, however – for while it's not terrible I found the jumpy style and formatting got in the way of the clarity it ought to have had. I'm sure the advice is of the soundest kind, it's just the way it comes across, and through weak formatting it doesn't come across as easily as it needed to.

Enjoyed the tips for coping with emotions when they get to be too much and the illustrations are adorable but overall a little lengthy.

"Hi, Worry. Bye, Worry!" by Elizabeth Verdick and Olivia Rae is an incredibly valuable resource for children aged six to nine who are learning to navigate their feelings. As part of the Little Laugh & Learn series, this book tackles the very real topic of worry with an empathetic, lighthearted, and humorous tone. The expressive illustrations are a huge highlight, beautifully capturing a range of emotions while also showing diverse characters from different backgrounds, animals, and even dinosaurs, making the book feel inclusive and fun.

What makes this book so effective is its practical approach. It doesn't dismiss a child's worries but instead invites them in for a short while before offering a range of healthy and empowering strategies to cope. From getting exercise and taking deep breaths to making a comfort cave or worry plan, the book provides a toolbox of simple, kid-friendly techniques. The illustrations and kid-centric point of view make the advice easy to understand and fun to engage with. This is a perfect book for any child (or parent!) looking to build habits and skills to manage worried feelings and thoughts in a healthy way.

If you have a child that experiences anxiety and feels overwhelmed by their worries, Hi, Worry. Bye, Worry! is a great addition to their coping skills toolbox. Written for ages 6-9, the explanations, tools, and illustrations are perfectly matched to this age group. At 88 pages, it was a long book for my almost 7 year old autistic son, so we read it over the course of a few days. I also didn't want to rush through the content, so breaking the book up into short sessions gave us time to talk through what we just read and how it applies in our own lives.

I particularly appreciated how this book was more than coping skills. The author also focuses on wellness through taking care of our minds and bodies, and making a worry plan, including how to ask for help. I am grateful for the opportunity to read an early copy and will be purchasing the book to add to our home library. This is one that will be important to read again when worries come to visit!

I wish this book had been available to me when I was a kid. My parents did not believe a child could have anxiety, and I was left dealing with constant panic attacks. I had to figure out how to calm down from them all on my own, which is scary and a lot of pressure for a child. I hope this books make it into public and school libraries so all kids can have access to it. This will allow so many kids to feel like they are heard.

Thank you to Netgalley, Elizabeth Verdick, Olivia Rae, and Free Spirit Publishing for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback.

Definitely one of those books you’ll read over and over because it just makes kids feel heard and safe.
Loved the examples of "worry" it gave - helping kids really understand what their feelings mean and that everyone gets them.

What a great book to teach children how to deal with worry, Slightly older then picture book but still young enough for early readers to learn some techniques to deal with their worries. I wish I had this book when I was little!

I love this chapter book. I especially love when authors include glossaries in children's books. The book goes through different strategies to help with the different worries kids have, like worry jars, journaling, and creating art. It even talks about getting enough sleep and eating healthy.

Hi, Worry. Bye Worry! Is a chapter book that is perfect for 2nd - 3rd grade readers who are ready to read independently but still like pictures.

This book has great strategies for worry and would be a great resource for teachers and parents to keep handy. A great resource!

I chose to request this book because 1) it caught my attention and made me curious 2) I thought this would be good to have my little one read and would be age appropriate as he has started expressing worries of his own and couldn't make sense of the new feelings and thoughts he's experiencing. Definitely is a great book for kids to read and learn about how to handle their worries and/or anxious feelings. It gives some insight and acknowledgement of children's worries - that we all have them, and how to work through them through positive thinking, deep breathing, relaxing, movement, and/or verbally sharing their thoughts and feelings with someone they feel comfortable opening up to when they are ready. The illustration is also well done and captivating. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book as an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

As a 44 year old woman, this is the best book about managing anxiety I have ever read (and I’ve read a lot).
Hi, Worry. Bye, Worry! is accessible to all and with simple language, giving solid tips on how to embrace your worry and improve your skills in moving through your anxiety.
I especially enjoyed the “3 H’’s” which encourages self advocacy to ask do you want to be Heard, Hugged or Helped.
I highly recommend this book for all ages dealing with anxiety.

What a wonderful book for kids about worrying! It explains the concept very clearly and gives very practical strategies. With whimsical illustrations, this book is a fun and accessible read, especially for kids in grades 2-4. However, I could see some advanced first graders doing well with it and kids in fifth grade who do not think that the illustrations are too babyish for them. I will recommend this book to my school's psychological and counselor.

Hi, Worry. Bye, Worry! is a children's book about focusing on being present and open to what's around and in front of us. First, the illustrations were so expressive and amazing. They remind me of my favorite cartoons, and I had a lot of fun turning each page to check out the art. Books like this are super helpful for kids to learn how to be reflective, self-aware, and become experts at managing their emotional state. Worry and nervousness can be a difficult emotion for little ones, and this book does a great job of explaining what sensations worry can create in your body, why you might be worried, and how to manage that worry with tips and tricks. There's even part of the book with an explanation of different tools kids can use in order to manage worry, like deep breathing, writing your feelings down, or focusing on the present by identifying sensations. The encouraging and helpful nature of the book is excellent - and I would definitely recommend for any library.

5 out of 5 stars!

Hi, Worry. Bye, Worry! is a supportive and engaging guide that helps kids ages 6 to 9 understand and manage anxious thoughts using simple, healthy strategies like deep breathing, movement, creativity, and talking to trusted adults. With a light tone and fun illustrations, it encourages emotional resilience and makes handling worry feel a little easier.

This is such a fun and helpful read for kids—and honestly, even for adults. It’s a practical, accessible tool that explains why we worry, how worry can actually be useful, and most importantly, how to process those feelings in healthy ways. I especially loved the suggestions for creativity and movement, and there were some wonderfully original ideas too (I’ll definitely be making a comfort cave). The “Three H” strategy is solid advice at any age, and the glossary is a great touch for helping little ones understand big words. The illustrations are bright, adorable, and perfectly in sync with the story. I’m so glad books like this exist to spark important conversations with kids about emotional well-being.
