A fast-paced and twisty thriller that will keep you turning the pages late into the night. Whispers of the Lake pulls you in quickly and doesn’t let go. The plot is filled with secrets, suspense, and plenty of shocking turns—though I did manage to guess the final twist just a chapter or two before it was revealed. The audiobook narrator was fantastic and added so much to the experience. Overall, an entertaining and gripping read.

Mystery on at a creepy lake house with creepy town people. I'm in. Plus this book was the definition of a messy friendship. You get multiple POVs between Rose, whose life is putting her life back together after her marriage ended. Then you have diary entries from Eve, Rose's lifelong friend, whose been missing for days. Rose reluctantly goes searching for Eve in the midst of their rocky friendship. Because of a mess on Eve's part!!! Rose finds herself trying to solve the mystery of where Eve is. Is she in trouble? Has she been kidnapped? Or did she just get away as her message suggested to her sister. I was hooked immediately. I loved the narrator of this audiobook. I devoured this story in one weekend. My physical copy is already on the way to me. Cannot wait to reread this thriller!!

This was a great read! I enjoyed this story! It kept me guessing all the way. It was also touching, inspiring, and sad. This story offers an excellent example of why its important to take care of our mental health and address our childhood traumas in order to heal. I loved that despite what happened between Rose and Eve, Rose still went looking for Eve. These characters were so interesting it was hard to stop reading.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! With multiple suspects in the disappearance of a troubled woman who repeatedly puts herself in dangerous situations this book will have you guessing what really happened to Eve.
I personally felt so sorry for Eve, she’s been dealt one bad hand after another and is constantly seeking validation, and because of this she is often seen as the "troublesome" one. But art really does mimic life because most of us know someone just like her. The deeper question this book raised for me was if I had a friend who betrayed me the way Eve did Rose, would I still go looking for her?
The narrators, Jasmin Walker and Dominique Franceschi, brought such emotional depth to the characters that it made the audiobook even more enjoyable.

Eve was supposed to be renting out a cottage in North Carolina but when her former best friend Rose goes to find her she isn't there. This was a book that had such a simple premise but ended up being full of twists and turns. Some were predictable but those predictable twists just set you up to be shocked on the next ones! It kind of reminded of a Jordan Peele movie (without the gore) and I was here for it! I don't want to give too much away---just read it!

Shanora Williams has done it AGAIN. I am a new fan of this author and have eagerly consumed every single thriller she has. She has such a way of writing flawed and real characters you end up feeling like you really know them. Eve was a mess but I really felt like I knew her. While this book wasn't as twisty as her books typically are, I still really enjoyed my time reading this. I can't wait to see what else she comes out with!
Audiobook was great!!

4.5 Stars rounded up

3.5- 4⭐️

I have loved everything I’ve read from Shanora Williams. Some of the things I loved about WHISPERS OF THE LAKE are the way the author makes you think hard about what you would do if you were in Rose’s shoes. With a book like this she also makes you constantly think about what twists & turns are coming & what they’re going to be. This was a fast paced mystery. I wish it had a bit more thriller vibes added in but it was still enjoyable. The narrators of the audiobook really brought the characters/story to life.

This author does a great job of is throwing drama into her thrillers. A missing friend and a crumbling marriage are the back drop for this mystery

I was a fan of the journal entries of the missing friend to see things from her point of view. Straight from the horse's mouth.

It was a quick listen that grabbed me and kept my attention. The get away from life I so desperately needed.

Jasmin Walker and Dominique Franceschi nailed voicing Rose and Eve. They fit the characters and made it so easy to follow along and listen.

This was my first book by Ms. Williams and I look forward to reading more. The writing and story were gripping and had me wanting to listen to the audiobook to find out what happened next. The narrator did a good job hooking me into the story. I appreciated that Rose didn’t change her thoughts about Eve just because she was missing. I enjoyed how the story unfolded to keep me guessing along the way. Thanks to NetGalley for a ALC to review.

Thank you RBMedia and NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for my honest review. I really loved the narrators voice, it was smooth and easy to listen to.

Whispers of The Lake Follows Investigative reporter Rose Howard as she searches for her estranged friend, Eve who vanishes without a trace. The story is pretty straightforward and kept my interest although I found it a little slower then some other books I’ve read lately. Recently published you’ll want to add this to your reading list if you enjoy mysteries involving a missing person.

This book was entertaining from start to finish!! I didn’t suspect the ending at all and boy when it hit me… OH DID IT HIT ME!! This book had me angry one moment, forgiving the next even though I don’t know these fictional people and it didn’t happen to me. Each character provoked a different feeling from me and I loved it!! Five star read!! Ms. Williams had me in her fantasy bag and now thriller bag. I now have to read her whole catalog.

If anyone can read these reviews and you’re looking for a thriller with a diverse “cast” look no further. If you want to read about betrayal meets loyalty… look no further. Just read the book!

I didn’t personally care for this story or the audio narrator’s. It was a slow burn, there wasn’t any crazy twists and it all seemed so cliche. I usually love books from this author but I did not care for this one.

If you haven’t picked this one up yet, you need to go grab a copy asap! Shanora Williams has truly penned a gem. This book had all the elements of a thriller that hooks you. The way the story unfolds I was drawn into everything Rose had going on, along with getting a understanding of who Eve was. Shanora has a way of creating characters that feel real and are relatable. The pain that Eve experienced can be felt through out the story along with the pain and challenges that Rose faces.

The narrators Jasmin Walker and Dominique Franceschi did an amazing job bring these characters to life.

I am beyond grateful to have had the chance to listen to this book as an ALC. Thank you Netgally and Rbmedia.

Whispers of the Lake by Shanora Williams is a thriller that kept me guessing.

Rose, a journalist, is having a hard time. Her marriage is failing and her friend, who she hasn't spoken to for three months following a fallout, is missing and she knows something isn't right. Rose drops everything to investigate Eve's disappearance and goes to the town where Eve rented a cottage. What happened to Eve? Will Rose find out before something bad happens to her?

This was a fast paced page turner with a shocking ending. I have it a strong five stars and highly recommend it if you enjoy thrillers!

Thank you to Netgalley, Kensington Publishing, and Shanora Williams for the Audiobook of Whispers Of The Lake.

The narrators did a great job bringing this audiobook to life. Having read quite a few of Shanora William's previous works, I knew what to expect and this one did not disappoint. There were some good twists and turns and I was listening to this audiobook into the night! If you are brand new to this author, I highly recommend starting with "The Perfect Ruin" or "The Wife Before" as these are my personal favorites!

Rose has fallen out with her best friend but when she goes missing, she feels compelled to find out what has happened to Eve. She travels to a tiny lakeside town where Eve was last seen to try and find out where she went next and stumbles upon several interesting people who might know something.

This was marketed as a thriller and in that aspect, it felt a little underwhelming because I was not surprised by what twists there were. BUT-this was so messy and entertaining I ate it UP! I don’t know that I would have gone to the lengths that Rose did with how Eve was, but she was a good friend and I loved the journey! The characters were super interesting and the writing was fast paced. This was a solid read and I can’t wait to read her other books!

The narrator did an amazing job, I loved her portrayal of the characters!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Shanora Williams, and RBmedia for providing this free ARC. This is my honest review. This published on June 24th!

Well written slow burn thriller! Complex characters, with a complex ending. Recommend for anyone wanting a griping story about two friends on different life paths coming back together! Really enjoyed the audibook narration and the switch between characters.

This felt like a murder mystery dressed up as a thriller and honestly? Kinda gave Lifetime movie energy. Predictable as hell, but I was still nosy enough to finish it. Small town, missing bestie, locals acting weird—classic setup. Rose, an investigative journalist whose life is lowkey falling apart, heads to a quiet North Carolina town to check on her ex-best friend Eve, who suddenly stopped answering. Of course, Eve’s gone, her stuff’s still there, and everyone in town gets shady real fast.

I had a good time even if I guessed most of the twists before they landed. Rose was a little dramatic, but I respect her commitment to doing everything except relaxing like she said she would.

I didn’t love it, didn’t hate it, but it did its job and kept me entertained.

This was a fun thriller. A woman goes missing and her ex friend starts the investigation to find her. Full of twists and turns. I listen to the audio and liked the narrator. It was a fun and quick read.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to the audiobook for this one and I really liked the narrator a lot. This is a quick read and an interesting thriller. It wasn’t quite as twisty as I was hoping for, but it was a fun ride. When Rose is told her oldest friend is acting out of character and no one has heard from her she tries not to care since they aren’t currently speaking. But she can’t help but try to find out what happened to her. As she goes to the tiny town her friend was last seen at there is clearly something wrong. Everyone is acting suspicious and no one will help her to find what happened to her friend. This book is mostly told in Rose’s perspective with journal entries from Eve strewn throughout the chapters. I really liked getting to see things from Eve’s perspective, it really added to the story.
