What if you could live every moment twice?
Mitch Albom takes that mind-bending question and spins it into an achingly beautiful story about love, regret, and the cost of always chasing the “what if.” Alfie’s journey—from boyhood curiosity to adult heartbreak—is both magical and painfully human.
Yes, the time-bending twist is fascinating. But the real magic? The way this book explores the temptation to perfect our lives… and the devastating truth that second chances aren’t always better.
🎡 A second-chance story with real consequences

😭 You will cry. Then text someone you love. Then cry again.
Alfie’s story is haunting, unforgettable, and filled with those Mitch Albom lines that feel like they’ve always been written just for you. A tender reminder that sometimes, the messiest, most imperfect moments are the ones worth holding onto.

I havent read an Albom book in YEARS but i saw a review that said this was a sweet easy read and thats just what it was. The premise is that a young boy discovers he has a gift to be able to re-live moments Twice in his life. This comes with positives and negatives. We see him fall in love, experience heartbreak and loss, and his own mortality. I found the writing simple and the story didnt go terribly deep but it was still a satisfying read.

Alfie is arrested for cheating and winding 2 million dollars at a casino in the Bahamas. He explains his innocence to the detective through journals he has kept detailing his life and the choices he made (and lessons he learned) with his a magical ability to redo events in his life (but can only redo the event one time). I read this in one day. Loved it and will be buying for library.

This is a different type of love story by a favorite author of mine. Mitch Albom has a talent for bringing the unusual and this book certainly has it. Alfie is able to change the course of his life by tapping himself and saying twice. This enables him to relive a certain aspect of time and redo what happened. The only caveat is that you must live with the consequences of the second go round. The uniqueness of the story as Alfie records it in his journal kept my interest throughout. Of course there are a few stipulations to this power which Alfie has been forewarned about. The ending was a nice surprise. Nicely written! Thank you to NetGalley and Harper for an advance e-galley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Albom is a versatile writer and this an unusual premise he handles beautifully. Alfie is able to relive moments of his life a second time but with no guarantee how they’ll turn out. A blessing and a. Ruse. Thank you NetGalley and publisher.

How many times have you wished you could take back something you did or said? Alfie actually has the power to do just that. He’s had this gift since the sad day his mother died when he was eight years old. When we first meet Alfie, he is being questioned by casino authorities in Nassau after he improbably bet on three successive payout numbers in roulette, winning two million dollars. Detective Laporta is convinced Alfie must have cheated and had inside help to do so, and he wants answers. Alfie tells him the explanation lies in a notebook he was carrying, a journal he addressed to “Boss.” In the pages of the notebook Alfie explains how he woke up the day after his mother’s death to a repetition of the previous day; this time, his mother tells him about the family power he’s inherited to relive events. However, Alfie must exercise his gift within certain restrictions. He can only repeat events he was present for; he can’t prevent anyone from dying; and he has no second chances at love. He is able to remember both timelines he lives through, but everyone else only recalls the second one. When he wants to redo something, he says "Twice" to make the change. Alfie spends a lifetime loving his childhood friend Gianna, making choices that have far-reaching consequences. Alfie is a compelling character, and the complexities of his life are absolutely riveting. I thoroughly enjoyed this!
