Something terrible happened to the couple who lived here before...’ My hands shake as I read the warning note I’ve just found hidden in a forgotten corner of my brand new house. My husband told me we’d be the first people to live here. Did he lie?! Great read! This book had chilling suspense, murder, mystery, dark family secrets, gaslighting, and a few jaw dropping moments! The storyline was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Secrets and red herrings kept me guessing. Realistic characters kept the story moving quickly. This talented author has written a page turner. I like novels by this author. Even the title is intriguing. A new beginning…the note…family and friends…Thanks Netgalley.

House hunting is a fun but time-consuming activity.
One person prefers an older, characterful home they can put their own stamp on. Another finds it much easier to move into a new-build house where they just need to place their belongings and don’t have a long list of jobs to tackle.

Di belongs to the first group, and her husband Christian to the second.
Christian does his utmost to convince his wife, and although she’s not really on board, she gives in. Honestly, she doesn’t have the energy for renovations while she’s pregnant. She decides to make the best of it in their new house in a recently developed neighborhood and hopes to make friends soon. But things don’t go as smoothly as planned...

People often say that female intuition is a myth, but Di sees it differently.
The uneasy feeling she has about the house won’t leave her alone. Her suspicions only grow stronger with everything that starts happening, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of it.

Just like Di, as a reader you also start to feel that something isn’t quite right, and your mind begins to spin with possible scenarios as you try to solve the mystery yourself.

That there are suspicious characters involved is a given. Some you immediately sense are hiding something, but with others, you might be completely wrong.

One thing is certain for me:
A Daniel Hurst book is always one I can enjoy 100%. They’re all great, with shady and sympathetic characters alike, and they read incredibly smoothly.

Once again, I’m a happy fan.
5 stars.
Thank you.
