I’m in the process of long term, learning coding and programming. It doesn’t really end for me. I am a web designer in my free time so this is something that just appeals to me as a skill to learn.
I typically struggle with trying to follow YouTube videos because I find that a lot of the content creators tend to not explain things in the way that makes sense to me or spend enough time on the things that seem like they need enough time and they seem to be selling classes to people online versus the goal of teaching others through content creation.
I definitely think this book is helpful for those that are wanting to learn Java and I will likely use this book as a reference, but I don’t know how much this will actually help me or someone who’s trying to learn how to do it. I know a big part of that is just that learning comes with doing, but I was slightly hopeful that there would be a bit more to this book to be completely honest? The quizzes would ask very simple questions but then it seemed to be very lingo focused in the chapters to the point where I was not able to understand what they were saying, and I understand that that’s a big part of this learning process is understanding what everything means, but the quizzes didn’t seem to add up to the content either? I feel like if I picked this up as a student it would feel like a very basic guide, and I would likely feel a bit frustrated after reading it to be honest, especially if I paid a substantial amount of money for it cause I know textbooks can cost a lot.
That being said, I think this is still a good book for someone just trying to learn Java and I would recommend this book but I don’t feel like I got out of it what I was hoping to get out of of it as someone who’s wanting to learn it and it might just be my learning style and I’m not sure how much a book’s content can adjust to that and I don’t know if it was the book or my brain but this didn’t seem to help further my understanding really and I feel like I would just kind of rather look things up.
Thank you for this ARC. I appreciate the opportunity to leave honest feedback voluntarily.

Really enjoyed this book. I didn't use it to learn how to code in Java but I wanted to get a good understanding of the logical processing behind this coding language and be more aware of the general taxonomy. Clear and concise I enjoyed it. Thanks for the ARC.

As someone who learnt basics of Java decades ago, and teaching their child computing, I found this book a great refresher and intro.
It is easy to follow, and the exercises and tools (boxes) for information retrieval were great.
