Would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery that keeps you guessing till the end.
Thank you to Viveca Sten, Netgalley and AmazonCrossing for the arc of this book.

Hanna, a Swedish police officer, is called to the scene of a grisly murder. A wealthy businesswoman, Charlotte, has been stabbed repeatedly in her luxury hotel room. Charlotte was embroiled in controversy over her desire to demolish an old hotel and build a deluxe tourist destination, which many locals didn't want. Then a hotel maid is murdered, and Hanna and her colleague Daniel are convinced that the crimes are related. When the deceased woman's son is kidnapped, Hanna finds herself in the role of hostage negotiator with a killer who has nothing to lose. This exciting police procedural, excellently translated by Marlaine Delargy, is recommended to fans of Nordic Noir. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advance copy.

I didn't realize this was book three in the series! I'll have to go and check out the other books written by this author first as I do not want to spoil this one for myself on accident!
Thank you for this ARC! I am excited to read more books from this author and am grateful for the opportunity to have sampled this wonderful read and to provide honest feedback voluntarily. I am loving what I have read so far!

I like this series and I’m enjoying how Hanna and the other characters are growing and changing. The central mystery is dark dark dark so keep that in mind.

Hidden in Memories is a fascinating and well executed Swedish mystery by Viveca Sten. A wealthy hotel developer with a long list of enemies is found murdered in a luxury hotel. Detective Inspectors Hannah and Daniel are tasked with solving the murder, only to find another body and then a missing person. The characters are layered and well developed, and the story atmospheric and tense. It’s not necessary to read the first two books in the series as the characters feel real and current. Highly recommended! With thanks to Netgalley and Amazon Crossing for this ARC. My opinions are my own.

I am really enjoying this series! This is another mystery set in a fancy hotel that has decades long memories for many people. We get to see more of the characters and their developing relationships. Very good book!

Hidden in Memories is a suspenseful Swedish crime novel, the third in a series. I enjoyed this book despite not having read the previous books in the series. The novel is set in a small mountain resort town. A woman who is a guest at a luxury hotel is murdered and many are suspected including hotel workers and those in her personal and close business circles. A story of a past crime in the town at a different resort hotel is woven into the plot and comes together at the end. I recommend this book for readers who like police procedurals and suspense.

This police procedural starts right out with a vicious murder, followed by a second several days later. The setting at a swanky hotel in the mountains is perfect for a whodonit. The cast of characters is well developed, the plot twists and turns as the author exposes the past and how it connects to the present. I was hooked immediately and thought the ending was perfect. Thank you Netgalley for another great read.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller read! I liked this one better than the second book, but not as much as the first. I love this Swedish mystery series🥰
this book follows a rich developer who is murdered in a luxury hotel. Hanna and Daniel race against time to figure out who did it. I liked the “past” timeframe aspect in the book which connected with the book overall.
I can’t wait for the 4th book next year :)
Thank you NetGalley and Amazon Crossing for the digital eARC.

Hidden in Memories is the third book in The Åre Murders series. It is captivating from the start. If you like books where an old crime gives birth to new crimes, you'll enjoy the latest from Sten. The mystery part of the book is thrilling, The story races along at a good pace. The only parts that didn't work for me were the pages which focused on the personal lives of the characters. These were sadly too much like a soap opera in my opinion. Had this been a TV series, I would have been changing the channel during those scenes. But, it's book and a good one. There are characters you will like (some more than others) and characters you won't like (some more than others). The conclusion should leave every reader applauding. Thank you to Amazon Crossing and NetGalley for the advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I am a deep admirer of Viveca Sten. She is one of my favorite Scandinavian authors. Her Are series, which this is the third, is also appearing on Netflix and I enjoy them too.
This mystery of a brutal murder of a wealthy developer has roots in the past as evident by chapters interspersed throughout the book always providing a thread of information to keep the reader guessing. The developing relationship between her two main characters is handled very well and the storyline held my interest.
If I have one criticism, and it’s just my point….i felt the narrative was drawn out , lasting a little longer then necessary. Still a very good read and one to put on your to-read list. I look forward to a fourth.

I discovered this author recently and have been reading man of her books. This book is going to be made into a Netflix series and I am excited to see how that is the same or how it differs from the book. Ihighly recommend this book and this author.

The slaying of a hotel developer in the Swedish mountains casts a shadow over a blissful vacation paradise in a chilling novel of suspense by the acclaimed author of Hidden in Shadows. Book 3 in the series, and definitely it did not disappoint me in any way, if you are a fan of Nordic Noir, serial killers, detective vibes then this should be your next read for the summer. A solid 4.5 stars for me!!
Had fun reading it.

This Swedish Nord Noir delivered exactly what I was looking for. Hannah, the detective, felt like a fully realized person — strong but with vulnerabilities that made her easy to understand. She navigates a world filled with darkness, and her journey felt real and raw throughout the story. The book tackled tough subjects head-on, showing not just deaths but deep injustices from the past, and how those wounds still affect people today. That heaviness gave the story real weight and seriousness.
The way the story moved between past and present didn’t feel forced at all. Instead, it showed how the past seeps into the present in ways that aren’t always obvious but are very powerful. The characters carried scars — both emotional and physical — and their pain wasn’t glossed over. It felt honest and unflinching, which made the whole story hit harder.
The mood was classic Nordic noir — dark, tense, and atmospheric. But this wasn’t just a crime story. It was about the emotions underneath it all: the sadness, the anger, and the quiet fights for justice that often go unnoticed. The tension wasn’t only about catching a killer, but about confronting what has been hidden for too long.
The relationships between the characters felt layered and complicated. I could see how history shaped them, how their decisions were affected by things that happened long ago. It felt like everything was connected, and that connection made the mystery more than just a puzzle to solve — it was about the human cost behind it.
There were moments that stuck with me — small details, conversations, feelings that felt true to life. The story didn’t rush, giving space to understand the characters and the world they live in. It balanced the heavier themes with moments that made me pause and think, instead of just pushing forward with the plot.
This book showed that some stories can’t be separated from the past, no matter how much time passes. It’s not just about what happened, but about how it continues to shape people’s lives. That made the story powerful without needing to rely on action or constant thrills.

This book was another hit from the author in this series . There was the usual mystery and suspense within a riveting storyline. Good character development added to the enjoyment of the book. A few twists and turns additionally added to the story. This is a book which I would recommend to all who enjoy a good mystery.

Thank you NetGalley and Amazon Crossing for the eARC.
This was an easy read, perfect for a hot, humid day (as we're having here in Upstate New York) and pretend you're skiing in the mountains of Sweden.
Hanna is a good character, smart and tenacious and I really liked the fact she was chosen by, the huge cat!
The mystery was a puzzle, the perpetrator was vicious and also a bit sad and overall this was a pleasure to read.
I hope there's a next in the series ... I want Hanna to get into a romantic relationship!
