Charlotte loves running around and playing while wearing her moccasins but one day she is sad to see they are too small. She visits her grandma and together they make a new set of mocassins out of leather, sinew and fur. The story includes the steps to make moccassins as well as the materials, including beads. I love that the story is passing on the knowledge while also showing the importance of elders teaching younger generations about their culture. The books ends with some information about mocassins and how to make them. I really like this book and could definitely see having a copy of it in my classroom library. It would be a great way to introduce my students to Indigenous clothing and the practice of passing down knowledge to younger generations. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher, Charlesbridge, for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

What a wonderful story about the importance of history, tradition and working with our environment. In this lovely book, Charlotte's grandma explains that we are all connected as she shares a special tradition of moccasin making with her granddaughter. I highly recommend this charming, informative story for schools, libraries, and families.

A beautiful story about a girl and her grandma, working together on making new Moccasins for her. I learned a lot about the culture and what Moccasins are. The story is rich, emotional and expressive. I love the bond shown between the grandchild and grandmother and how the grandmother enrols the girl into taking on an advanced task of sewing the next time they have to make her new moccasins. The back matter shares more information about the history of moccasins. The art is gorgeous and expressive. I really enjoyed this story!

This is such a great picture book! I love the art and how it was so expressive. The story of Charlotte growing out of her moccasins and visiting her grandmother to see how they’re made and begin learning the practice of making moccasins was so great. I loved the design choice for beading on Charlotte’s new moccasins and how it came to be. All around this is a delightful picture book full of heart.

When Charlotte finally grows out of her favorite moccasins (handmade by her grandma), she's devastated. But soon she realizes it gives her the perfect reason to hang out with Grandma and make a new pair! As Grandma lovingly measures, cuts, sews, and beads new mocassins, she and Charlotte share stories, lunch, and plenty of priceless time together. By the end of the day Charlotte's rocking brand new mocs, designed to beautifully represent the bond between her and Grandma.

This is such a sweet story and I absolutely love the illustration style. The back pages were also super informative about the history and creation process for moccasins!
