Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing me with an advanced e-copy for an honest review.

The characters art in this was beautiful and the romance was cute, however some of the art overall (like in terms of settings of background) felt underdeveloped and not because of lack of skill because like I mentioned the character art is beautiful. I also would like to see the mmcs more flesh out. I see a lot of potential for future volumes.

My Instructor Won’t Yield is a soft, slow-burn BL with a charmingly awkward vibe and a small twist that makes you giggle. The dynamic between the guarded instructor and the nervous student is endearing and sweet. I loved the art style; it captures every glance and hesitation.
The story is gentle, with a touch of humor and lots of heart. Though brief, it delivers a satisfying emotional payoff. perfectly.
A short, cozy read full of quiet emotion and gentle humor.

This is a very sweet BL. Our teacher is apparently a wanted man. He is turning students down left and right. One day, a well dressed man comes in for lessons and mistakes him for a manga Prince Charming. A conflict related to this helps them move closer via the resolution. Soon, they are being cute on a trip and sweet tone another. We have very little OM drama but nothing that drives an edge between them. I think the final chapter about there original meeting was cute and maybe a little stalkerish but I love how it inspired the manga.

First, I would just like to thank NetGalley and Kodansha comics for providing this ARC copy of My Instructor Won’t Yield in exchange for an honest review.

The whole concept of this story was such a cute idea. I’ve never read a driving school romance before, but it was so much fun I kind of wish there were more to it. The whole gap moe vibe from the main love interest to the MC was super cute and seeing him look so serious when going out and yet was just a funny little nerd at other times made him very likable. I also liked the main character Chiba. I think if we got more of a story, we could explore him more, but he was interesting enough in this story as the MC.

One of my favorite parts of one-shot manga like this is the cute little authors notes at the end. I feel like a lot of older manga would still have the notes when they were full series, but I haven’t seen as many of them in modern manga series, only one-shots. I loved that Kodansha and its translators included this page in English as well. Usually, I have to sit through with my N3 level Japanese and try to read the note on my own, but I LOVED that Kodansha included it in the story. It gave the whole book and even more warm feeling. The spicy level was a level 3.

Overall, I would rate this book as a 5 out of 5 star rating. Such a cute little manga. It made me want to read more by this mangaka.

This was a very quick read, and it was cute for what it was.
Overall, I enjoyed it; there's not much going on (and less focus on the driving classes than you would think). The characters don't have much depth or backstory, though you know enough about them to understand the story. Being a one shot, everything happens quickly, so there's a fair bit of drama (which gets instantly resolved)
I did appreciate that there was no bullshitting or denial in the romance aspect of the story.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a free e-copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I’m not about to say that I’m a connoisseur of Boy’s Love manga, but it probably is my most read genre, so make of that what you will. When I saw My Instructor Won’t Yield, I thought it looked like a really interesting concept of perhaps a developing love between an instructor and his pupil, something I’ve not read before amongst a sea of worn out tropes and stereotypes.

I did feel quite let down by the manga, as it didn’t feel like it lived up to the promise of the cover and blurb. It did often feel the most interesting thing in My Instructor Won’t Yield is the insight it gives a foreign reader into the intricacies of learning to drive in Japan. That’s not to say the rest of the plot is bad necessarily, just that it feels very played out and doesn’t really give that something new that I was looking for. I expected more interaction between Chiba and Yaotome actually driving or on lessons, but there didn’t feel like there was all that much.

It was nice to have the characters realise their feelings quickly on and just accept that they are gay; none of the usual trope of going back and forth as to them refusing to accept that they like men, which actually felt quite refreshing.

The characters of Chiba and Yaotome felt flat, with not much depth to either of them. They had the bare minimum of a history each, only really enough to make their actions and interactions make sense, but other than that, there was nothing.

Whilst the manga was well drawn, I had hoped for more in terms of characterisation and plot. There didn’t feel like much in terms of anything that stands out even only two days after I finished reading.

Whilst My Instructor Won’t Yield didn’t meet my personal expectations, it was still an enjoyable and fun read. There’s nothing in the manga that I would count as ‘bad’, just that everything was just ‘okay’. It’s not going to light the BL world on fire, but it is fun for a quick, sweet read.

This was an absolutely cute and hilarious rom-com between a driving instructor and a student driver. I can see myself reading this as a series or a watching as an anime. It has the right amount of angst, slow burn pining and miscommunication. I found myself going "ahhhhh" out loud. It was too cute.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC of this Manga, I really enjoyed it a lot.

If you like BL manga, this is definitely for you! It is funny and cute.

This was a cute romance between a driving instructor and his student. I did like it that nothing really happened between the two characters until after Chiba was not longer teaching Yaotome. I hadn't really been expecting the secret crush but I think it made things a little fun. They were awkward together, yet I felt like they were just what each other needed. I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

THIS WAS SOOO FREAKING CUTE!! It’s a very nice completed story in just volume, with how the characters meet in driving school but also past interactions, backstory, and the sprinkle on angst. I really love the artstyle as well how simple and clean it was and how beautifully it conveyed the emotions. Definitely will also be looking into other works by this author/artist.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️ ( 4.5 stars )
A cute and wholesome driving love story

This was a very wholesome manga. I did not expect to get attached to the characters as much as I did but .....oh boy, here we are😭🤣 the artstyle is really beautiful, the characters are really adorable, plus it has a cat ! ( only mentioned in passing tho)

This was cute, funny , adorable ( all the positive adjectives ). Shiba and yaotome were adorable as a couple I love how they geeked out over driving manga, how they communicated ( everything!).I just want a volume two of this couple so badly 😭

If you want a wholesome bl story to read to make your day brighter....this is it !

Aww! This manga was so cute and adorable. It lowkey pulled on my heart strings. I really enjoyed this manga and basically everything about it. This is a fast paced book and has a fairly simple plot. Yaotome is learning to drive due to getting a new cat and Chiba is his driving intruder, and then it goes on from there. The art style and both of our main characters are extremely likable. I wouldn’t say that there isn’t much to or anything to complain about, it’s a cute and simple romance.

This was just too cute. A great lighthearted romance that was so funny. Yaotoma became my favourite after the first chapter, he comes off so cool and calm but is so awkward. I love me an awkward dork. Chiba is a great opposite to Yaotoma's awkwardness, they are so cute together!

Very cute and fluffy! I especially appreciated the translation and author notes at the end for some context.

I really enjoyed myself while reading this short and sweet BL manga.

In this manga, we follow Chiba who is a driving instructor and Yaotome who is a 30 y/o man who wants to learn how to drive because he recently adopted a kitten. The story progresses as they grow closer together, and we learn more about their lives.

What a delightfully wholesome BL!!

Loved the of this and our two main characters! Chiba is a driving instructor who takes his job and his persona at the job very seriously! This also includes not getting involved with students, but along comes the ‘sharp suited prince’ who will turn his world upside down.

This book was so dang adorable! I need so much more of them. Like honestly I was so invested in the romance and plot, it was just unlike anything i’ve read in the manga format. Like that it was meta/selfaware and that just made it so fun. This is a perfect gateway BL manga.

Yes, yes, yes.

That was so good, I can't believe how cute they are?!
I'd never read the manga with a driver license story, so I really wanted to read it, and I wasn't disappointed.

I can hardly wait for the second book.

This was such a cute and fluffy romance between driving instructor Chiba and his new student Yaotome, a manga artist that uses their interactions as inspiration for his work. I really liked the dynamic between the two characters, they had me smiling and laughing throughout the whole story. The story is fast paced but still satisfying for a one shot. The art style is great too! Overall I really enjoyed this and would recommend it if you’re looking for a quick, lighthearted bl manga!

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
