War veteran turned insurance salesman Jack Spinks makes a life changing decision when he stops his car to help a woman who is alone on the forest backroads, desperately in need of help, claiming that she is being hunted by demons. Jones has written a story that follows a night of horror, and forces Spinks to confront his long buried grief. The story is told over two different timelines, one in the present where Spinks navigates terror in the woods on his mission to help the woman he has found, and the other in the past where Spinks experiences a life changing event in the military. While I found that the throwback perspectives were crucial for helping the reader understand Spinks' motives, I did also find myself wishing they were a bit shorter.
This book will have you on the edge of your seat, unsure of who you can trust, and what the truth really is. I read this in a single sitting, unable to put it down once I had started.
