Thank you HarperAudio Children’s, Quill Tree Books, and NetGalley for the advanced electronic audio review copy of this book. This great middle grade science fiction is the first in a duology and is full of time travel, adventure, and family relationships. Well developed, relatable characters, fast pace, and wonderful narration make this a fun, enjoyable read. Looking forward to the next volume.

12-year-old Maise’s mom finally gives her a cell phone - one that belonged to her Great Aunt Hazel, with the news that Hazel is in poor health, and their family will be going to Maryland for the summer to be with her. Mysterious texts begin coming in, and Maise quickly learns that Hazel has a far more interesting past than she initially realized.
Eva Kaminsky's narration is fantastic - she kept me engaged and interested, and did a great job with different character voices.
This first Moonleapers book was a fun trip - everything 12-year-old me would have loved. Spies, playing with history, fun facts sprinkled throughout. Maise’s feelings of isolation and loneliness also resonated while thinking about a middle schooler enjoying this book. I can’t wait for the adventure to continue in the second book.
I highly recommend this book for kids who like mysteries, riddles, and the idea of time travel.

While I liked the premise of MOONLEAPERS, time travel rule # 1 generally is that you cannot change anything about the past so having that be a major plot point didn't work for me. Otherwise I thought this novel brings up some interesting topics of missing out on actual life because you're so focused on your phone and how you don't always know who is on the other end of the line.
Eva Kaminsky does a good job with the audiobook narration.
