I really enjoyed this book and was hooked from page one. I thought the magic system and world was very unique. I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes fated mates. I’m planning to continue the series.

I really enjoyed this! The world building really got you into the story, and the characters were intriguing. It’s really difficult to create a unique magic system for fantasy books and this one did it. I loved seeing the ins and outs.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Dark, slow-burn fantasy with divine tension

Death and Divination introduces Asteria, a 492-year-old Seer burdened with visions of death and destruction. In a world where Seers are cursed by their dark visions, Asteria's sanity remains intact—a rarity. When the veil between worlds thins, and the Marked are sacrificed to the gods of the four Immortal realms, Asteria discovers she too bears a Mark. Claimed by Nox, the God of Death and Darkness, she must navigate a realm where everything she knew about herself is questioned.

This debut novel offers a richly woven tapestry of magic, gods, and destiny. While the romance is a slow burn, the atmospheric world-building and complex characters provide a compelling read for fans of dark fantasy and slow-burn romances.

Our fmc Asteria, home among the mortals, different from all the prophets, long out lived her ancestors as a seer. No one could understand why she was different, but everyone around her felt it blatantly obvious. except for her 3 main companions, Saryah, Tolith & Haryk. Until one day, she had a vision, which led her down a path she never envisioned for herself. A chosen one by the gods. Where she is then taken to the immortal world with her new companions Nox, the lord of the night realm, and his right hand man Nox. It is here where Asteria begins to learn the truth of her differences, her past memories, her true power. But what does it all mean for her? what is her true destiny?

I fell in love with Asteria, her wonder, her curiosity, her feeling as if she never belonged, I found her very relatable, I cannot wait to see how her growth continues. That being said I also quickly grew fond of Nox, his tentativeness towards Asteria, his calm to her storm, his mystery, but do not be fooled, it was evident he would burn the world for her. And lastly Drystan, Nox's right hand man, he grew on me so much through the story. he actually had me laughing out loud with his sarcasm towards the end. I love the banter and back and forth between him and Asteria, I look forward to how their relationship builds.

This book had me completely INVESTED.The ending actually made me cry out loud in horror and frustration 😂 I NEED ANSWERS.

I was sucked into this story from the beginning. It is a great beginning of a new series and I have so much that I still want to know. Asteria is an interesting character, she sees visions of darkness where other seers are adored, she is definitely not. Nox, is the God of Death and he claims Asteria, I will say I definitely added him to the book boyfriend list. The burn between them two is so dang slow. There is tension, intrigue and suspense (in knowing who Asteria really is especially). The politics are also interesting as well as all of the gods.

The world building for me was confusing at times and I feel like some things needed to be elaborated on more. A lot of the story is about Asteria finding out exactly who she is. Overall I really enjoyed the story and I will definitely pick up the next book to see where this story goes.

Thank you NetGalley and Cranthorpe Millner Publishers for the advance copy. All my opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc!
I was a little skeptical of this book - but was SO pleasantly surprised at with this fantastically dark story. The characters felt real and mature - and each showed fantastic growth. I was hooked from the first chapter and am SO excited to fangirl with the world when this comes out.

From the poetic prologue to the final pages, this book pulled me in. Asterea is a layered, cautious heroine, and her dynamic with Nox and Dystan kept me invested. I loved the dark, gothic feel of the Night Realm and the slow-burn tension between characters.

Some reveals were dragged out longer than needed, but the worldbuilding and writing made up for it. I’m hoping we explore more realms in future books and finally get answers about Dystan’s true role.

A rich, immersive read with divine politics, secrets, and slow-burn tension.

First impression, I was immediately drawn in. The prologue is poetic and sets a beautiful tone that the author continues in major moments. The FMC Asteria is a seer who takes psychedelic concoctions to force visions and I found that to be an interesting premise. She is 492 years old which is a refreshing break from our typical 19 year old. I also really enjoyed that the trope of “fae can’t lie” in this world is actually, yes they can lie but it causes such immense pain that they “can’t lie”.

The MMC is the ruler of the Night Realm, God of Death and Darkness, the Reaper, Nox. He is 643 which is technically an age gap, but Asteria thinks they are shockingly close in age. Just goes to show how little a century and a half is for these almost immortal beings. It was a tongue in cheek moment that I found entirely humorous.

This is a TRUE SLOW BURN. Do not go into this book thinking you’re getting a quick romance. You will be disappointed 😹 I however was not in any way shape or form. I loved the pacing. I dominated this book, reading it in 2 days. It’s the first book in a series (ugh the cliffhanger 😭) and I’m excited to continue the series.

If you enjoyed books such as Given or The North Wind, but with even darker themes, I think you’ll really enjoy this book.

My critiques:

There are some repetitions that I could not ignore. Nox’s power of smoke being calming is one example, but what truly pushed me over the edge is describing Drystan as “the brunet god”. 40 times according to my kindle this was mentioned, in a 400 page book. That amount of times had to be an intentional decision, but I just did not vibe with it. Also the thing that drew me in and made me want to burn through this book, the prologue, was repeated verbatim, and that took a little of the magic and beauty away from me.

Thank you NetGalley, Cranthorpe Millner, and Jadis Moon for the eARC. This is my honest review and opinions are all my own.

The premise of this book sounds amazing. And while I did enjoy the world building and the characters. It took me a while to get into the writing style. And a lot of the book just fell flat for me. I do believe there’s a lot of potential and I’d enjoy the direction at the story went. I do think others will really enjoy the story. I’m just not sure it’s for me.

Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC

Asteria is different from others in the realm, she lacks arcane power and is the seer that sees death.
She has stalked death for decades, but as the veil between worlds thins she is the one marked for death.

It is so refreshing to see a main female character who is older than 20!
Once I started reading I did not want to stop. The prologue really pulled me in, and I loved the magic system and worldbuilding.
I am already looking forward to the next book.

Asteria's visions are plagued by death and destruction. Finding that her visions are showing the death of the Marked, souls who are destined to be sacrificed to the gods, only to discover that she too bears a Mark.
I was intrigued by the premise and initially swept along with the character and world building. However two thirds through I began to feel the the pacing was a bit off and the slow burn romance did not seem to be developing. I was also given the distinct impression that I had read the book before as the theme towards the end was so similar to previous work I have read, ultimately leading to a rather predictable cliffhanger.
Overall it was a good story, hopefully the next book will be more punchy.

I am absolutely baffled that this is Jadis Moon’s debut novel! I’m so grateful to have received this ARC. This was a 5-star read for me, and I hope that it gets the recognition it deserves!

Death & Divination introduces you to Asteria, an awkward outsider in a kingdom full of prophets, fae, dracons, and other magical beings! The world building was so good, I felt like I was transported wherever Asteria was.

You’ll venture into different worlds and realms. You’ll encounter elixirs, prophecies, and all sorts of other magic! Betrayal and secrets are everywhere, but the found family is so sweet. Don’t let me forget to mention that there are gods!

If all of my previous words weren’t enough to convince you, let’s talk about the romance! As a romance reader, that was my FAVORITE part. It’s a slow burn, but it’s so, so good. The yearning? Shadow daddy? Morally grey? I couldn’t get enough of it all!

The ending has left me REELING. I need the next book ASAP!

An intriguing world and great atmosphere. The slowest of the burns that only gave me crumbs. A powerful FMC that doesn't quite just how big she can make her presence is always a fun read. Cannot believe the last page was where it was. I am obsessed with Nox and have a desperate need to know more.

Witchy, mysterious, and quietly romantic—Death and Divination is full of moody magic and soft ache. The atmosphere is everything, the magic system is super cool, and the romance had me all in.

Wow! The story is creative, the gods are incredible, I want to read this book again and again. This book has so much happening in it that you need to keep reading so that you don't get lost. I enjoyed Nox and Dystan immensely! Nox is very caring but can also be deadly where as Dystan acts like everything and everyone is wasting his time. Asterea is just trying to find her place in the new world she has been tossed into and has had so much happen in her past that she is overly cautious about wo to trust and who she lets in close to her heart.

I honestly expected a little spice in this book, but there was none.. She obviously has feelings for Nox and he does as well, but neither of them are very good at accepting that type of love or giving that type of love.

If she has to visit all of the realms to decide where she best fits, I hope there is many more books to come. Majority of this book was held in the Night realm so we don't get a whole lot of information on the other realms. But, this opens the author up to have a different book for each realm if she chooses.

I do find that there was one question that was never answered and maybe it will be in the next books; Nox is described as God of Darkness and Death, but what is Dystan? We know he is in the Night Realm but what is his actual god title? and will she ascend into an actual God at the end of the series?

I recommend this book for lovers of God Realms and Fantasy Magic! I can't wait for the next one! Congrats on your debut novel!

Okay, while this story was far from perfect, it was really enjoyable.

To start things off, the world-building and magic system are unique; I really enjoyed the whole 'Dracon form' aspect of things. The book did start off in a weird spot, but it all makes sense in the end. So expect to be a bit thrown off at the start. The transitions between scenes aren't always smooth and can feel disjointed at times. However, the passion of this author for their work is felt throughout the story, in my opinion, and that helped carry the book for me and gloss over some of that disjointedness that's going on.

Asteria, where do I start? Our girl has been going through some stuff, from where we start off with her in the book, with a dead husband, to feeling like an outcast in her world. I feel like the growth and regressions she makes in this book are believable, and I felt for her. Even the ending of the book, I feel like, is her regressing in a sense, but believable considering the circumstances. The only thing I'd wish for her in the second book is that she looks deep inside herself and finds that she's not useless and worth something. But self-worth is not something someone else can give you, so I am rooting for her to get to know/love herself in the second installment.

Weylan, the moment this man appeared on the pages, I knew I was a goner. But then again, I do have a type, as they say. I loved how kind and warm he was towards her, though I still question why he held some of the things back from her as he did. Which I hope we get clarity on in the future installments because, in my mind, this is the only negative point I have towards him. He held back on something she needed dearly, and it didn't seem to mesh with his other mannerisms/behavior towards Asteria.

Despite some of the challenges in this book, I believe it's worth a try. This author shows promise, and I am excited to see where this story goes and to see more works from them.

Lastly, I'd like to thank NetGalley and Jadis Moon for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC of Death and Divination.

It took me a little while to settle into the writing style, as the story started off slowly. But once I got a few chapters in, I really began to enjoy it. One thing I really liked was witty banter and phenomenal tension between characters.

The characters were engaging and the plot kept me curious, even if some twists were a bit predictable. The writing could use some refinement in terms of flow, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.

I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment in this fantasy series!

✨ ARC Review – Death and Divination by Jadis Moon ✨

Jadis Moon knows how to play with obsession. The characters are built so perfectly, layer by layer, that by the time they finally share the page, I was feral. You feel him before you even meet him—his reputation, his danger, that pull—and when he finally appears? Done. Gone. Utterly ruined.

This is the slowest of slow burns—the kind that hurts. Every glance, every word drips with tension so thick it’s almost unbearable. You’ll be begging for scraps of anything between them—and loving every torturous second.

And that ending? A cliffhanger straight from hell.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — I’m obsessed. I need book two yesterday.
🌶️ — zero
