Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.

Lili is 29 and runs a charity shop in Cornwall with Meg and Tommo who are also her friends. A year ago her best friend Em drowned and she is still deep in the grieving process. So when she texts Em's phone again one day with a knock knock joke and receives an answer just like Em would give, she is deeply affected. Could Em still be alive? But instead of Em she meets Dylan who thought he had been texted by his travelling brother Harry.

I have to admit, the premise is slightly weird and I initially didn't know where this was heading, but thankfully Lili's misconception is soon rectified. This is a slow-burn romance between two grieving people, but it focuses more on the grieving process than the romance. Lili has adopted the Japanese practice of freedom ceremonies where she gives people the opportunity to say goodbye to inanimate objects that have for various reasons meant a lot to them but now need to go so the person can move on. It sounds strange but felt very moving.

Lili is a lovely person. We see her gentle interactions with hard-up customers Callum plus son Jack and Glenda. She is kind to everybody but inside she hides this big sadness she can't talk about. She tames a robin she calls Bobbin who seems to understand what she is telling it but only when she meets Dylan does she start to open up. Then she discovers that Dylan has lied to her about Harry and her world falls apart yet again. Can Dylan explain?

I thought this was heartbreaking but also heartwarming how people throughout the book pick themselves up, dust themselves off and start again. The background of wintery Cornwall and a Christmas meal with friends felt just lovely, and the short trip to Las Vegas interrupted the routine, while not feeling too gaudy. It's an uplifting and emotional story about friendship, found family and love in all forms. Recommended.

Lili is still reeling about what happened to her best friend Em so when she decides to send a final message to her she does not expect a message back. Everything comes flooding back to Lili and she is holding out hope it really is Em, but when they arrange to meet she cannot believe what is going to happen, this is when she meets Dylan little does she know he is going through the same thing as she is. But as the pair bond together could they both help each other to heal the pain? I don't think I have ever read any of Samantha's books and I am really questioning myself why. This book literally took my breath away, I felt emotionally attached to the pair of them and couldn't believe how much pain they both must be in. I loved the idea of the robin and it's meaning especially when you have lost someone, it means a great deal when you see one. I just loved the connection between Lili and Dylan and how the story wrapped up in the end. This is definitely a winner in my eyes and a bit of a tearjerker too. I cannot wait to read more of Samantha's books now.

A heartfelt and meaningful journey through love, loss and starting again, told in an upbeat and cozy manner. Love Bobbin the robin!! Normalising finding comfort in the everyday things, normalising letting go is hard but sometimes so needed. Like a big hug in mug on a cold winters evening!

This took a bit for me. At the start it just felt rough and the premise forced. But once The story moves forward, I enjoyed it. Looks at grief, how attachment to things can hold us in the past and moving on while holding the memories. I found it a positive and uplifting story.

Lili and Em were best buddies, the sort who know each other inside out and pretty much have their own language. One year after Em has tragically died Lili texts Em’s old number…………and gets a reply in Em “speak”- something only they would know. Is someone playing a cruel joke or is Em…?? Lili dare not think about what she truly hopes is real. Who is sending the texts and why?

Wow! What a brilliant premise. Most of us have sadly lost someone dear and would love to be able to get a message to them, and even better to get one back- how truly special that would be. (I’ve got more than one in mind!). Samantha knows how to draw a reader in and keep them there with her brilliant style of writing. I laughed and yes, I cried. I loved the characters and how it made me think of things in my own life. A truly memorable stunning read.

Will You Stay Another Day by Samantha Tonge 🎄📖

This book is everything I love about cozy Christmas reading—✨emotional, hopeful, and full of little moments that make your heart ache in the best way.

Lili never expected a simple “knock-knock” message to stir up the kind of magic that only happens this time of year. But when a reply comes—and it leads her to a handsome stranger, Dylan—what follows is a story about grief, love, and finding someone who understands the quiet ache of missing someone deeply. ❄️💌

Set against a backdrop of chilly walks, robins in the garden, and that unmistakable feeling that Christmas is coming, this book gave me everything I want in a seasonal read: gentle healing, unexpected connections, and the reminder that even in the loneliest seasons, something beautiful can still bloom. 🕯️❤️🌨️

If you love cozy, comforting holiday reads that also tug at your heart—this is the one. A new favorite for my winter rotation. 🎅🏼📚

A beautiful read. When Lili sends knock knock joke to best friend Em she doesn't expect to here back but when she gets a message and then meets up with the lovely Dylan things begin to make sense about why he answered. Im not going to give anything away as I don't want to spoil it for other readers but it's safe to say it's a story of love, loss friendships and relationship's some really great characters who all bring something to the story and Bobbin the little Robin who visits Lili regularly certainly adds a sparkle to this lovely festive story. It was beautifully written by Samantha and the thing that came across was it's OK to let go of the past and start living for the future. I really enjoyed it and I'm sure other readers will too.

Wonderful book. Very emotional. Lili sends a jokey text to her best friend Em but then she gets a reply back that she wasn't expecting as she's not heard from Em for a year. She then meets Dylan who has ended up with Lil's number.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this ARC.

When Lili sends a jokey knock knock message to her best friend, the last thing she expects to hear back from her. It's been a year since she last heard from her. After arranging to meet up, there is only one person waiting, the most gorgeous man she's ever seen, who was expecting somebody else himself, someone he hadn't seen for a long time.

Can Lili and Dylan fix each other's lonely hearts for Christmas?

I absolutely loved this book, unexpected turns in the book meant I wanted to read more. I love that this book shows that not everything is plain sailing.

My favourite character has to be the little Robin, I'm definitely a believer of when a Robin is around a loved one is near.

The perfect book for a cosy winter night, hot chocolate and a warm blanket.

A beautifully crafted, poignant, & ultimately uplifting story that explores themes of grief, hope, unexpected connections, & the enduring power of friendship.

The writing style is warm & evocative, drawing the reader into the emotional landscape of the story. Samantha handles the sensitive subject of loss with compassion & tenderness, avoiding melodrama while still allowing the full weight of the characters' emotions to resonate.

A profound exploration of how we cope with absence & how new relationships can help us move forward without forgetting those we've lost. It reminds us that even in the darkest of times, there is always the possibility of light, new connections, & the chance to embrace a future we never anticipated. Readers looking for a truly heartwarming & emotionally satisfying read will find much to love in this touching novel. Another one of Samantha's books that will stay with me long after I've finished it!

I must say I love Samantha’s books. I’ve never been disappointed with any of them, and this one is no exception.

This story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I dived straight in without reading the blurb for this one and literally could not put it down as I began to find out Lili and Em’s stories. The author is very emotive in her writing, you feel for these characters, their losses, their difficulties, but also their love and their smiles as they navigate life.

There is always such a poignant meaning to these books, this one being living your life when you have lost someone very close to you.

The characters are all well developed and you really do want to get behind them and champion their determination to move on.

I don’t want to give anything away, but I loved the idea of what Lili does on a Sunday afternoon, this was really moving and an eye opener for me. It got me thinking deeply and truly understanding how inspiring what she does, is! Cryptic I know, but you need to read it to understand.

There is a wonderful sense of community throughout and the unlikely friendships between generations is something I love to see. Oh and I must mention Bobbin the robin, such an integral and important part of the story, again you need to read it to find out all about her!

The ending is perfect, I couldn’t have thought of a better way for it to end.

All in all another wonderful, memorable, meaningful book from Samantha which will stay in your thoughts long after you have put it down.

This was such a special book. Most of the characters in the book was grieving lost loved ones. The characters are quirky and so very likable. There’s a bit of humor too. It’s a lovely heartwarming story set at Christmas time. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
