On Fire for God is a gift of enlightenment on fundamentalist churches and the greed that can come with religious control.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book; it was highly informative. I will certainly recommend it to others. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

I was never a fundamentalist, but grew up in an area where it was prevalent. This brought back so many memories of me of that culture--which I was in on the periphery of but never wanted to engage with.

In _On Fire for God_, Josiah Hesse returns to his childhood home to confront his history of having been raised in evangelical Christianity. He happens to be from the place that inspired _The Music Man_, and he uses the book to draw parallels between the events and ideas of the musical and the manipulation of poor Evangelical Christians for financial gain. Along the way, he provides one of the most comprehensive histories of evangelical Christianity that I can recall reading, and he does so in a compelling way. Similar stories have been told, but this one really added to my understanding, and I appreciated reading it.
