I absolutely adored this book! I’d been craving a good sci-fi romance for awhile, and this hit all my checkpoints. Keller is absolutely amazing and I love his humor, and his optimism and drive to get through everything that’s thrown his way makes him a delightful character. I love his narrative voice. Lament too is a wonderfully complicated character who I enjoyed watching come out of his shell as Keller got to know him. The rest of the cast was very memorable too, although they didn’t share much of the spotlight, they were still all diverse and interesting enough to remain relevant in my mind instead of blurring together. Avi is adorable and I love her and her pyrotechnic ways. 10/10 would read again and again.

Wonderful. I went into this book a bit skeptical but I am amazed by how good it was. The politics were easy to follow without being overly simplistic, the world building was robust enough to feel realistic without being so over explained that it drowned out the narrative. The characters were all wonderful and Keller and Lament had believable chemistry that kept me invested in their relationship. I cried near the end of this, which is always a point in favor for me. If a book can make me feel something that strongly the author is clearly doing their job well.
My only complaint is the formatting. Jester's dialogue is often confusing to read without anything to denote where it begins and ends. I understand not wanting to use quotation marks given that he isn't speaking verbally, but SOMETHING would be helpful. Italicizing his dialogue would be my personal choice, but anything to make it more clear to the reader when he is talking would do wonders. There's a similar issue when characters are having text conversations. Keller's dialogue is clearly denoted through bold text but the others all blend in with the surrounding narration. It can be a bit hard to read.

I very much enjoyed reading If All the Stars Go Dark, a science-fiction romance with compelling and complex characters and an intriguing plot!

The writing style is not overtly complicated,l and flowing. Wholeheartedly recommended.

If All the Stars Go Dark was a very pleasant surprise.
This book is the perfect amount of heartwarming and heart wrenching, the characters were so profound and well rounded, all were necessary and played an important part. I imagine the author took such care to write this book, because it showed clearly in the details and just the way everything fit perfectly.
We follow Keller as he begins his journey in an elite team after graduation. By the way this is sci-fi but if you don't like the genre don't worry, neither do I and I loved it. We soon meet the other people in the team, especially the pilot who recently lost his friend in an accident. An accident that opened the position that Keller is currently filling, you can imagine how it goes.
What got to me mostly was the found family aspect, all these characters are family, and they absorb Keller into the fold so seamlessly. All the characters have their own personalities and quirks, at the end they are a little band of misfits and I love every single one of them so much. The only way I can somewhat explain it is by comparing it to the feeling I got reading the house in the cerulean sea and meeting the children, only here they are(mostly) adults.
The plot was a little cliche but that honestly is not that important here, the heart of this book is the characters and their relationships.
Add it to your tbr and read it as soon as you can(the release date is set for January 2026), you won't regret it I promise.

Thank you Netgalley and Godwin Books/Macmillan's Children Publishing Group for the ARC!

One of my new favorite queer sci-fi books. I was so obsessed with those two, and so are their friends/side characters which felt very immersive. The ending had me very scared for a second. I liked that both characters were vulnerable/shared weaknesses and were there to support one another, even though they had a rocky beginning

This is a very ambitious book that, I think, succeeds in most ways. It does require a fairly high level of suspension of disbelief (aka willingness to handwave), but if you can give it that, the characters are worth the effort. And, in the end, I'm willing to handwave a lot if I care about the characters.

I was a bit concerned at first about the Ender's Game vibes, but thankfully, this went in a different direction very quickly. I'm also questioning some of the name choices... but I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to say whether they're truly problematic.

Overall, I read this for the characters, and I wasn't disappointed. An emotional, page-turn-y romp. Four-plus stars from me.

My thanks to the publisher/NetGalley for an advance copy of this book.

A fast-paced, queer sci-fi adventure, with a cast full of heart, a romance at the center, and a high stakes conspiracy theory/mystery fueling the plot along. And, my goodness, the ending. Great for fans of The Darkness Outside Us.

OKAY I FINISHED THIS IN ONE NIGHT AND I HAVE NO REGRETS.

This is an amazing book. As a huge Star Wars, Red Rising, and Hunger Games fan, this book was basically written for me and folks like me. This does not talk down to its audience, it’s complex, interesting, and reads like a thrilling sci-fi adventure and not a common YA romp.

Excellent. Will read again.
