Domi is sent to Albuquerque as a consequence and to learn from her Aunt Q. She learns about the artistry of nail art and family dynamics can haunt a relationship. One is expected and the other is not but it helps her family to reconnect in a positive way. Domi is creative, hardworking, and also spunky.

Although this book was a little long, it did feel like Domi's summer flew by. I enjoyed getting to know the cast of characters at the nail salon very much and appreciated that many kids have summers that aren't leisure and camps for weeks. One thing that struck me was her aunt's hoarding - I don't know how much a kid would get out of the mom intervening and helping her estranged sister unpack the emotional burden of holding on to all the physical mementos of their past, but I really appreciated it. I really enjoyed this book and will recommend it to lots of kids.
