I adored Addie & Carrie’s story.

Having family members who are bipolar, this close to home. However, it was told with a great deal of compassion, empathy, respect, sensitivity, and kindness.

I devoured Mary Ellen’s Union Street Bakery series, so it was so lovely to have some UBS Easter eggs hidden in the story.

I’m excited to get to read the sequel and see where the rest of the story takes them. 🥰

Originally published in 2015, At the Corner of King Street is a gentle, emotionally layered novel that explores the complicated pull of family, trauma, and forgiveness. It reminded me a bit of Deborah Smith—steady pacing, richly drawn relationships, and a strong sense of place.

The story moves quickly even without much action, and I especially enjoyed the architectural reclamation business backdrop—it added unique texture to Addie’s world. The family dynamics felt authentic: full of love, resentment, obligation, and hope. The interwoven journal entries from an ancestor were less compelling for me, though they offered some historical depth. At times, they painted past characters in a fairly negative light without adding much insight to the main narrative.

Overall, this is a thoughtful, quiet novel about choosing between the life you planned and the family you never quite left behind.

I'm so very glad that I picked up this heartfelt story about Addy and her sister.
Lots of family dynamics for sure and certain.
I was drawn in from beginning until the end. I simply couldn't put this wonderful story down.
Wonderful characters that I enjoyed in getting to know especially Addy. This story is told from her point of view. I love that. Its my favorite thing in a story.
I enjoyed the setting of the book too. It was described so well that I felt like i was there. I didn't want to leave at all. I was sad when it ended.
5 stars from me for an endearing story that had heartfelt moments along with some entertainment as well.
Well done! I loved every minute of this book.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review ( which I found nothing wrong with any of it). All opinions expressed are mine.

a new series that i want to completely get involved with. this is another story where we have one brave woman having to deal with her past but also almost having to deal with her future too. for decisions and choices she makes, has to make will make so much difference to her world. it will make all the difference to who she has by her side. does she go with what she thinks she wants, what she thinks she has to do, or can both merge and still help her find her own happiness.
i love how Mary can write right into the heart of her stories and situations. she knows how to write people, connections and emotional depth so its woven right through her books.
this books brings us to Addie. shes grown up needing to be strong. her life hasn't been easy on her. that is until she finds peace and happiness at a vineyard and also finds it in a good man who is the owner of the vineyard, Scott.
but she is suddenly called home once again. she doesn't want to go back to that place, or be reminded of that time. her mother and sister are both ill and it took its toll on Addie too.
her sister is pregnant though, and of course shes not seen as fit to care for it.
there is also the family curse to contend with.
oh and the fact Scott knows nothing of her past nor her family.
now Addie is torn. there doesn't seem to be an option that will sit easily on her heart or mind.
Addie will do anything to help the people she loves and keep them safe. but at what cost and where does that take her?
i loved this book. i cannot tell you how much i began to care for what was going to happen in the end and what was going to happen to Addie. that character took a place in my heart and i just wanted to help her so much and just give her a big hug.
a book to cherish this one for sure.

This heartbreaking, emotional tale focuses on a family that is cursed with the darkness of mental illness and the shattering destruction it leaves in its path. The feelings evoked from this story were utterly palpable. I admired the strength of Addie's character and empathized with all the weight that she had to endure alone. Even though this was more of a family drama, I loved the air of mystery that hovered throughout the pages. Was their family cursed by a witch? The story was mostly told in Addie's POV, but at the end of each chapter the author provides us with a short journal entry from the past. These diary snippets slowly unravel a tale of witchcraft during colonial times. I really enjoyed these but felt that they were lacking in detail. I would have liked a little bit more from that time period. The ending was also a little cut and dry, which left me with a lot of unanswered questions. With that being said, I know that Addie's story will continue in book two, The View from Prince Street, so I am hoping that everything will be revealed then. I was pleasantly surprised when the McCrae sisters from Union Street Bakery popped up in this story, and I liked that Margaret played a large role in this one. I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to the next. You really can't go wrong with Mary Ellen Taylor. I would definitely recommend!

Addie has working for the last seven years in a vineyard and is in loving relationship with the owner.
When she receives a phone call from her aunt telling her that her older sister is in trouble and needs her help she reluctantly makes the journey back home.
A story about a family in crisis and the heartache this can cause.
Addie is a great character who will stop at nothing to make sure her family stays safe.
This is the first book that I have read from this author and I will be looking out for more of her work.

At the Corner of King Street by Mary Ellen Taylor is book one in the Alexandria duet, published by Montlake.
Addie Morgan left her hometown and works at a vineyard, when her sister needs help and she returns home. She finds out there may be a family curse bottled in a yes bottle and she does everything to learn more about it.
This story spans centuries, is exquisitely written, had me in suspense from start til the last page. Addie's story continues in the next book, The View from Prince Street.
