I will say book 2 was def better than book 1. But in general, somethign was lacking for me in the entire series.

Groove is a vibrant and soulful story that pulses with energy, music, and raw emotion. Bernice L. McFadden and Geneva Holliday skillfully capture the rhythms of life and the complexities of their characters’ journeys. The narrative flows like a jazz melody—sometimes smooth, sometimes intense—drawing you into a world where passion, pain, and hope intertwine. I loved how the authors explore themes of identity, community, and healing with honesty and heart, making Groove a truly memorable and moving read.

Fever was my first book by Bernice McFadden. I thoroughly enjoyed Crystal and Noah's stories. It was an interesting and unique premise. I will be recommending Fever to my book club.

The chaotic crew is back together in Fever, taking place in another summer in NYC. There are more sexual antics, questions about identity, and allowing openness and flexibility to the journey of finding happiness. These childhood friendships uphold a small sense of stability for one another and allow for funny spectators of each other’s life, but what’s missing is genuine trust and deepness in these relationships. The plot points overall seem to be exaggerated for exaggeration’s sake, and in doing so loses some integrity and grounding of the story. Small pieces of transphobia and Sinophobia also float around, altogether making this story cringe, unremarkable, and not as fun as it proclaims to be.
