Brigands & Breadknives was such a fantastic addition to the series! Travis Baldree’s narration is, as always, spot-on and brings the world to life in such an enjoyable way. The story was engaging from start to finish, and it fit perfectly with the tone and heart of the earlier books.

I loved being back with these characters, and the blend of adventure, warmth, and humor made it an easy listen. It’s the kind of audiobook that feels both cozy and exciting at the same time. Highly recommend for anyone already enjoying the series—it absolutely delivers.

I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of the audiobook narrated by Travis Baldree himself. I read the first two in the series and really enjoyed them. I would say I liked the first better than the second, so wasn’t really sure how the third would go - especially considering it wouldn’t really be involving Viv. Safe to say I shouldn’t have been. It was another great story featuring some new characters with their own intriguing backstories and personalities. Again, loved the wit and humour injected throughout the story, making light of some of the more serious topics. Definitely still a good cozy read, but I did miss the baked goods.

I’ve enjoyed every book in this series and loved reading about Viv and Fern again. While this one was a fun adventure for Fern I was still warmed to hear about the other characters we’ve come to love over the last couple of books.

Also, it’s always a treat to listen to an audiobook that’s narrated by the author themselves. Travis did an exceptional job once again.

I also really enjoyed this book for adding some adventure to the series. With a coffee shop and book shop being the first two book’s settings seeing the series make a turn for some fun adventure on the road was a nice relief.

Audiobook- I love this series. All the characters are interesting and quirky. It’s a fun read, an escape ! You really need it from the first book to understand the relationships here.
Fern a lovely little foul mouthed big hearted bookseller get’s an adventure she never expected. She makes her move following her friends and opening her dream bookstore, everything is going as planned. Poor Fern can’t hold her liquor and that is the beginning of something more.
I recommend this series to anyone that loves fantasy lite.

Another great book in the series, following our darling Fern this time, on an adventure to find ones self in a rather relatable conundrum of potentially needing a job change. A little more adventurous than the other two books in this series, but no less fun, with a great group of characters, including some new faces.

Travis does an phenomenal job of narrating this, just like his other books.

Fern the ratkin (of ‘Bookshops and Bonedust’) sells her bookshop and moves into a new shop across from a certain coffee shop to reunite with an old friend (of ‘Legends and Lattes’). But, during a drunken existential crisis, Fern not quite accidentally stows away in the cart of an elven bounty hunter, on a journey to claim the fee for a goblin. Will Fern find her purpose? Does it involve returning to her old friends or continuing along with her new companions?

This was absolutely delightful! I would recommend reading the two novels that come before and the short story ‘Goblins and Greatcoats’ - there are characters and storylines that carry over and while you’ll want to catch up with your favourites. This was impeccably written, and while there is a bit of angst, it’s funny and heartwarming. The pace never lags and there's enough action and stakes to keep interest, but it's really the found family and character dynamics that make this series so enjoyable. The author also expertly narrates the audiobook! Overall this is a worthy continuation to the series, and I hope it’s not the last!

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was really excited for this book without knowing exactly what it was about. I was super excited when I heard Fern was back. I love that rattkin. There was quite a bit of cussing compared to the other books but it didn’t bother me.

This was another excellent book in the Legends and Lattes series. I felt like it built upon the world we already know. It was still a bit of a cosy fantasy with a dash more adventure.

I received an ALC thanks to NetGalley. Travis Baldree is an excellent author and narrator. Any books in this series will be an autobuy for me. I would give this 4.5 stars if I could.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and especially the author-narrator himself, Travis Baldree, for the audioARC of Brigands and Breadknives.

This third entry in the series proves Baldree hasn’t lost a step. The story has all the cozy charm, humor, and heart that made the first two books instant favorites, while still pushing the world and characters forward in meaningful ways. And on audio? Baldree once again nails it; his narration is warm, distinct, and perfectly tuned to the story’s rhythm.

A five-star continuation that left me smiling, hungry, and already eager for the next course.

Is this story going to shatter genres and expectations? No. But if you are looking for a soft, reflective, heartwarming story with a bit more action than Legends & Lattes? Then yes, you are going to have a great time with Brigands & Breadknives.
.
Now, we follow Fern, our favourite sassy bookseller, as she tries to solve her growing listlessness. She loves selling books, but she is starting to ache for a different purpose. She decides to find her old friend Viv in an attempt to change her life a little - but of course it’s never that simple. And after getting absolutely wasted, she wakes up with a hangover and on an adventure she had no plans on signing up for.
.
No one knows these characters better than Baldree and his skill in writing and narrating and he captures their quiet thoughtfulness (and their sass) in such an engrossing way. Of course we still have plenty of comedy, especially with the addition of Zil, a goblin with sticky fingers.
.
This book is soft, charming, and silly and I think fans of Baldree are going to really enjoy this return to the Legends & Lattes world.
.
And, come on, with characters that include a bread knife called Breadlee and a horse named Bucket, I mean, how can you not be charmed?

While the prior books in the Legends & Lattes’ universe were cozy stories about slowing down and appreciating the simple things in life, Brigands & Breadknives is about stepping outside of your comfort zone to find yourself. Soon after moving to Thune to open a bookshop beside her friend, Viv, Fern quickly upends everything after a drunken night. She finds herself travelling with a living legend and must confront her fears and insecurities if she wants to make it home.

Travis does a great job of fleshing out the world that was developed in the prior books. The story gives us a grand adventure that the others have been hinting at, filled with vivid descriptions of gripping combat and immersive setting. With an interesting cast of characters full of personality, I was instantly hooked!

At first, Fern presents herself as a bit of an unlikeable character—she screwed over her friends, and abandoned her pet, all on a drunken whim. But over the course of the novel she grows as a character, showing that stepping out of her ordinary life as a bookseller and going on an adventure was what she needed to find herself. Along the way she learns that you shouldn’t settle for other people and you need to live for yourself which was a great central message for the story.

Travis did an amazing job with the narration. All the characters had such distinctive voices and he added so much personality to the story.

Thanks NetGalley for the ALC!

I really enjoyed this edition to the series, however, it didn't give me the same vibe as the others before it.

After the first few chapters of the book I was unsure if I would end up liking it. It is faster paced and less cozy than his previous works. I ended up pleasantly surprised. I prefer his previous works but it is a nice edition to the series.

Is this book...BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE???

In Travis Baldree's best story yet, 47 year old Fern (the bookshop owner from Bookshops & Bonedust) makes a return to our timeline when she moves her shop, and her whole life, to open a shop next door to Viv. But when she arrives, the listlessness she's been feeling about her life doesn't go away, even after the wild success of the new store. So she gets drunk and passes out in the back of the cart of a hundreds year old fae bounty hunter...and goes on an adventure.

I honestly did not expect to like this as much as I did, simply because Legends & Lattes was SO good, and this one isn't about food, so the food descriptions are scant. But this was even more fun, funny, adventurous, and somehow cozy, as the first 2 books. I honestly hope Travis Baldree continues to write within this world, because I can't get enough.

His narration of the book was pretty good too!

A buddy adventure with a motley crew of characters, and companion novel to Legends and Lattes.

I very much enjoyed this book. I listened to the audiobook and found Baldree to be a delightful narrator, with distinct voices for each character and excellent timing/delivery. Zyll and Bucket steal the show for most of the story, but I don't mind. I sometimes found the lack of specific story direction a bit tiresome, and Fern's constant cursing seemed out of place (I know that's her character trait, but the use of modern curse words in more medieval fantasy settings sometimes takes me out of the story, especially when listening. A me problem, for sure.)

I don't think you HAVE to have read Bookshops and Bonedust (I haven't), but you may get more enjoyment out of some pieces of the story if you have. Having not read it, I think I missed some earlier context, but the story still does a good job of not relying on previous writing and crafts a more expanded world. Some heartfelt and thought provoking moments, and at least a few where I giggled or laughed out loud.

While this book still has element of a 'cozy' atmosphere in terms of plot pacing, and character interactions, the stakes are a bit higher at times - the narrative leans more into the sword fighting/adventuring side of things.

Highly recommend if you are a fan of cozy adventure fantasy.

I'll probably have an unpopular opinion here, but I believe Travis Baldree is one of those 'one-hit author' cases for me, personally.
I absolutely loved Legends & Lattes. I've read it twice since its release and I still love it. I am not a fantasy reader. Never have been, but that book surprised and comforted me in a way that I never thought it could be done by a fantasy novel.
And then I read the follow-up book and I didn't have the same feelings, and now I got to this new release and...I liked it even less. And I cannot pinpoint what I believe it's wrong about this book. Honestly, I don't believe there is anything essentially wrong with it.
It just didn't work for me. I guess what I loved so much about Legends & Lattes was the environment. That cozy coffee shop in the middle of the woods and those two characters interacting and so on.
This new book is, in my opinion, much less cozy and more adventurous fantasy.
Again, nothing wrong with it. It just isn't what I expected or wanted from this book.
I'm sure fantasy readers who already love this series will enjoy this book much more than I did.
Concerning the audiobook: I have no complaints. The narrator/author did what he thought the narration should be done.
Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio, for the ALC.

This is my favorite cozy fantasy series! I loved jumping back into Fern and Viv's story. While Legends & Lattes was cozy coffee and Bookshops & Bonedist was a book lovers dream, Brigands & Breadknives is an adventure!! Fern isn't sure what she wants but she knows she doesn't want everyone else's dreams. Passing out in the wrong wagon led to an unexpected journey of excitement and companionship. Zil was my absolute favorite character - she was full of surprises. Highly recommend audio, read by the author himself.

I started my journey with Travis Baldree with Legends & Lattes and I was immediately hooked. Five star read.

I read Bookshops & Bonedust and it was another slam dunk for me.

So, needless to say, when I had the opportunity to get an ARC for Brigands & Breadknives, I was thrilled. This one wasn’t *quite* the same cozy vibes as the other two but still a really fun, interesting read with a slew of lovable characters you’ve come to know and love from the first two books. Fern, our main character, is essentially on a quest of self discovery and does so in an accidentally unconventional way. I found myself loving aspects of this story (namely the characters and their adorable quirk) but the “high stakes” nature of this one just felt different from the others in the series. The adventure aspects weren’t necessarily a bad thing… just not exactly what I was looking for when I reach for this brand of cozy fantasy.

Altogether, a good read- just expect a slightly different vibe.

This man gets better at writing with every new book in this series. The characters are well written, the coziness is there but there's also realistic conflict, and it deals with real emotions people struggle with.
This book delves into Fern's midlife crisis. After years of doing what she loves, selling books, she realizes there's a great emptiness in her that she can't seem to shake.
Not only is it a well-rounded story, but I really enjoyed the message at the end and how the author chose to bring Fern's story to a close.
Also, as a D&D nerd, the references are fantastic

Strong addition to a fantastic series. Love that Baldree sets most of this on the road to change up the formula from the first two. Narration is fantastic in the audiobook.
