First and foremost, a gigantic thank you to Tor, MacMillian audio, and NetGalley for the advance copy of Travis Baldree reading his own work. He’s such an incredible narrator and to write a book with several characters knowing you’re going to read it is such a feat, and now he’s done it 3 times over.
Returning to Thune and the roads beyond was so delightful. As I mentioned I listened to the audio so some of my spelling of names may be a little off, so please forgive me. I loved meeting Astrix one ear so much. Fern was honestly one of my least favorite characters even though she was the protagonist but everyone around her was just lovely. Even Breadley. If you are following the Legends and Lattes series, this is a must read. Bookshops is still my favorite of the series (I could not get enough of Satchel), but I would not pass this up. I cannot wait for the next one!

Brigands & Breadknives picks up after Legends & Lattes and follows Fern, the ratkin bookshop owner introduced in Bookshops & Bonedust. While we briefly see Viv and other familiar characters, the focus is on Fern as she steps out of her comfort zone and into a thrilling adventure full of goblins and orcs. The stakes are higher than the cozy first books, with danger, deception, and plenty of action, but the charm, humor, and thoughtful world-building remain.
Fern’s sharp-edged personality and inner struggles make her a compelling lead, even if it took me a moment to fully connect with her. The twists throughout the story kept me on my toes, and the adventure had me reflecting on stepping out of my own comfort zone. The audiobook, narrated by the author, is particularly fantastic, bringing every character to life with distinct voices and emotional depth.
Fans of Baldree’s world, D&D-style adventures, and cozy-but-action-packed fantasy will find a lot to love here. While it’s less cozy than the previous installments, it’s still brimming with charm, heart, and unforgettable characters. I can’t wait to see more adventures in this world!

Baldree doesn't miss. Ditching Viv and the coziness that she creates where ever she goes to focus on Fern as she embarks an entirely new adventure with a new cast of characters was such a move. It feels like a D&D campaign with a trusted dungeon master.

Travis Baldree is back at it with Brigands & Breadknives.
Bladree brings Fern, the ratkin bookseller we met in Bookshops and Bonedust, to the big city, just for her to feel as unfulfilled as ever. The city brings the crushing disappointment of letting down an old friend. Fern gets drunk and, in her infinite drunken wisdom, climbs into the back of a cart owned by a legendary adventuring elf. This terrible, awful decision might just be what Fern's life was lacking. It's all good and well to read adventures, but living them might just help Fern find herself.
Brigands and Breadknives is a wonderful adventure of a story. Baldree employs his usual charming language to build another cozy story in the Legends and Lattes world.
The audiobook is top-notch, but what did you expect with Travis Baldree as the narrator?!

Thank you NetGalley for an early release audiobook of Brigands and Breadknives. Thank you Travis Baldree for your stories of pure wonder and glee.
Luck is enjoying an audiobook with a narrator who has a talent with multiple character voices, emotional expression and care to detail that keeps the listener fully engaged. We get all of that AND the narrator is the author which puts detail on point with perfect purpose. I was fully immersed and in bliss the entire ride.
I've read the first two installments of the Legends & Lattes universe which I think is essential to this book beforehand. They're also just amazing reads. This one, however, blew me away. I found another all time favorite book! If you love fantasy and adventure, you'll love it. If you love rpg and D&D games, you'll love this book. If you love well written books with attention to detail and character building...okay, you get the idea.
We pick up where Legends & Lattes ended with Fern in a bit of an inner struggle. She decides to step out of her life for a minute and is met with trouble landing her in an adventure of a lifetime. There's goblins, orcs, elves, talking swords or butterknife, you decide. Battles and so much more! In addition to amazing writing, loveable characters and action that thrills the mind, there are 3 twists in this book!
I had such a blast with this read and have already reserved myself a copy for preorder.
One of my favorite quotes:
“That books are a weapon against loneliness. Putting them in the right hands let’s people see one another, it makes us better to one another…”

Returning back to the Legends & Latte’s world we are following Fern, a foul mouthed book seller. Fern is traveling with a goblin, a breadknife and a warrior type creature. Fern discovers themself along the way while meeting various creatures and has some fun adventures.
This is a good addition to this series. We are back in the cozy, fun world of the previous books. There is a prequel if you missed it. The audiobook is done well with the author as the narrator. I would continue this series if Travis continues writing them.
Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. First time I have listened to Travis Baldree narrate his book, and it made the story even better.! What I did love about this story was even though it was part of a series you could read it as a standalone.
Fern is feeling out of sorts, so she moves closer to her old friend Viv and opens a bookstore next to Legends and Latte coffee shop. But even setting up shop near her friend doesn’t make her feel better. She knows she must tell Viv how she is feeling, With a little too much to drink to give her some liquid courage to talk about her discontent, she passes out after she jumps into a covered wagon.
This is where Fern’s adventure begins. Does she head back to her bookstore or does she travel with the one ear maiden?

I'm so bummed to be giving this book such a low rating. I really wanted to like it, but I found that the way Fern went about her quest of self-discovery really rubbed me the wrong way, and I just couldn't get past it. If you've ever bent over backwards to help a friend but then had them ghost you, this is not a book for you. Fern is having a mid-life crisis, so she accepts Viv's invitation to move to Thune and open a bookshop next to Viv's coffeeshop. After everyone pitches in to get the bookshop up and running, Fern is still in the throes of her crisis and gets drunk and runs away rather than talking to anyone about it. The crowning indignity? Fern even leaves her pet behind, not arranging any care for the poor thing. She writes apology letters she never sends, wallows in guilt and sadness, and despite some very interesting traveling companions, I just didn't care because I was so annoyed with Fern. This lacks the cozy tone to the other two novels in the series, but if you're looking for an adventure story with quirky characters, give this a try. Baldree does a good job with the audiobook narration, which isn't always the case when authors read their own work. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an audiobook review copy.

SIX STARS. I am generally not an avid audiobook listener, but what a pleasure to listen to an audiobook written by the narrator. The performance is simply perfection. I’m about to commit blasphemy, but I might have enjoyed this more than Legends and Lattes. If you liked Legends and Lattes even a little bit, you’ll definitely like Brigands and Breadknives. You get a splash of the old favorites mixed in with completely new characters that are all lovable in their own ways. Character development is balanced with bits of action and the story concludes in a way that leaves a door open to more adventure, but is also complete and satisfying.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC audio.

Fern has decided to move her bookshop to be closer to her friend Viv and her lovely coffee shop. After help from Viv and her local friends, Fern is set up and ready to go. All is well. Right?
It turns out that picking up and moving didn't actually help fill the emptiness inside her.
After a drunk night of introspection, she ends up on a unintentional journey with a famous adventurer. How can she get back? Does she even want to? Will she be able to get over her guilt from abandoning Viv and the town that helped her? What about her sweet pet Potroast?
This cozy fantasy is a great follow up to Legends and Lattes. One full of a bit more adventure and just as much heart.
I really enjoyed this book but I can't put my finger on why it didn't hit the spot quite like Legends and Lattes did.
I was blessed with an early listening copy of the audiobook. Per the usual, Travis is a great narrator and it was a lovely experience. I would be amiss if I didn't mention that the male narrator and a female main character takes a minute to get used to. Overall, a great time!

This third installment in this light-hearted cozy series is a meandering story with very low stakes. After a night imbibing, Fern, our lead character, crawls into a random wagon to sleep off her overindulgence. She's fed up with her life and looking for happiness that she can't seem to find as the local book seller. She ends up traveling with an elf warrior, sentient cutlery, and a clever orc prisoner (who isn't a prisoner, or is she?) There's swashbuckling and bad guys that turn into a tale of found family. How do you know what will make you happy when you don't know what you need to be happy? Travis Baldree is a narrator extraordinaire and excels at telling his own tales.

I loved this addition to the story. It was more than a side quest, it was a deep dive into a character I wanted to know more about, and I loved every minute of it, and her.
Before I read this book I thought Fern was an ok side character, after reading it I am absolutely rooting for her in everything going forward. She's definitely got a mousey vibe (sensibilities wise) but so much heart and personality to go along with it, I really fell in love with her through this book.
Of course there was a little bit of the other characters, more than a bit of two I did not expect, and a heartwarming ending that wrapped everything up nicely. All around good times.
I read this as an audiobook and the narrator was (of course) excellent, as well as the writer himself.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for providing me with an advance copy in exchange for my honest review, and of course the chance to fall in love with this book and Fern.

These books are just so cozy and warm. I love the characters and the setting. Fern's story was sweet and funny and it was nice to be back with the Legends & Lattes crew. I also really enjoy that the author narrates his own books. He does such a great job at bringing his characters to life.

My review for this is the same as the book itself, but to add on for the audiobook, the narrator is amazing! The author himself narrated it and his voices for the various characters are perfect and add to the fantasy of it all!! Loved it so much.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

3.5⭐️ rounded up. I’m not always a huge fan of fantasy, but I do enjoy Travis Baldree’s books! As with his other books in this series, this was a quaint read with quirky and lovable main characters. I do wish I had re-read the previous books, but otherwise I did enjoy this new addition to the series!

Another wonderful book in Travis Baldree’s “Legends and Lattes” series. This one follows
Fern, the ratkin bookseller from “Bookshops and Bonedust”. Fern goes on an accidental adventure that leads her to find out who she really is and what she wants in life.
Baldree manages to write books that are cozy and relaxing, but never boring or saccharin-sweet. I listened to the audiobook read by the author and love the voices he chooses for the characters. The plot is interesting and takes us to many fun settings. What I really adore are the characters. Each is unique and lovable, though they each have their own flaws. I laughed out loud many times which always bodes well for a book review.
I told my husband that this is my favorite in the series yet. He said, “you always say that!”. He’s right. This series started out great and just keeps getting better. I hope that we will see a book featuring Satchel in the future. I missed that character and I’m hoping that the mentions of him in this book are hints of an adventure for him soon.
I listened to an ARC audiobook from NetGalley I return for an honest review.

Oh, it’s cozy alright! "Brigands and Breadknives" is basically Travis Baldree hitting that sweet spot between cozy vibes and edge-of-your-seat action—way more stuff happens than in "Legends & Lattes," but it still gives you all the warm fuzzies. I was addicted! And don't even get me started on that little goblin sidekick, who is seriously the cutest thing ever. I'm a sucker for cozy fantasy and literally couldn't put this down. And if you are thinking of grabbing the audiobook? Do it. Baldree narrates it himself and nails all these different voices and accents—honestly, the audio version is THE way to experience this one.
Thank you, Travis Baldree, Macmillan Audio, & NetGalley. I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fern the ratkin has moved to the town where her good friend, Viv, lives and has opened a bookstore next to Viv’s coffee shop. But Fern is just not enjoying the quiet bookstore life anymore and longs for adventure. One night, after a long bout of drinking, Fern falls asleep in a cart, only to wake far from home and be confronted by a legendary warrior who is transporting a prisoner for the bounty and is not best pleased to find a stowaway in her wagon. And so Fern’s dream of adventure begins but, turns out, adventures aren’t all just fun and excitement. Some can be downright dangerous.
Brigands & Breadknives is the third book in the cozy fantasy series, Legends & Lattes, by Travis Baldree and, I gotta say, this is one heck of a rollicking ride. Certainly, it is as fun, charming, and humorous as the first books but with a great deal more action. I really enjoyed meeting up with the characters here, both old and new, and the story kept me engaged throughout right up to the satisfying and, of course, happy ending. I love this book and look forward to more in the series. I listened to the audiobook narrated by the author who does an amazing job.
I received an advance audiobook from Netgalley and Macmillan Audio in exchange for an honest review

WOW! What a book, what a narration! It’s now my favorite of the three books! I do recommend reading the short story about Zyll before reading this book, it makes it so much funnier!
The book is funny, I just love Zyll. She makes me think of Stitch HAHA! It was cozy but with the perfect amount of action!
It also shows that Baldree is used to narrate audiobooks, he is GOOD.
I just have nothing bad to say about it. I would’ve continued listening forever

This was another great cozy fantasy in the Legends & Lattes universe. A lot of adventure and action to keep the reader engaged, but all low-stakes enough that you know you don't need to worry. I thought the story was great and engaging, but it's really the narration that shined for me. Baldree does his own audiobooks and does a wonderful job matching the cozy tones of his stories.
