This book is a brilliant blend of a layered fairy tale, historical research, and a compelling story -something that has magic and substance and we definitely recommend. While that's typical of Kate Forsyth's writing, so we always know we'll have a good read in picking up one of her books, all her stories remain surprising and fresh, Kate's storytelling, wordsmithing is that of a seasoned pro who loves what she does. You never have to worry you'll come across something that's clunky to read, or that doesn't make sense, instead, you can just commit to the read and enjoy it unfold to live in that world for a while. There are lovely, sweeping stories that make you consider history - and fairy tales - in a different way, and while this book is one of those, it also goes a step beyond into the realm of inspiring. We've put it in our #resistancereads category for good reason. HIghly recommended.
