Blood Ties and Deadly Lies by Ang Pompano.

I spent my 4th of July with Al Delucia in Sachem Creek, Connecticut, competing in a kayak race while trying to solve a very tricky case of murder and real estate fraud and an assault charge against his alleged brother, also the bully of his youth. Al is also dealing with his ex-wife’s wedding, his father’s growing mental issues, and the running of his father’s Blue Palmetto Detective Agency, while trying to sort out his own personal life. Yeah, life is complicated.
Descriptions of gorgeous places and witty metaphors alternate with harrowing action and several rescues of unlucky boaters. Doing the right thing is one of Al’s more endearing traits — what a mensch. This was a lovely escape, virtual travel and adventure with no actual cuts, bruises, or concussions.
I haven’t read the first in the series, WHEN IT'S TIME FOR LEAVING, and I plan to remedy that very soon.
