I went into The Doctor and the Duchess by Karen Gerrard expecting something Bridgerton-esque, but was surprised by how different it was—in a good way. The historical accuracy and depth of the setting really stood out, and I appreciated that the story wasn’t solely focused on the romance. It’s a slow burn, which I enjoy, and the plot had more substance than I anticipated.

That said, I struggled to connect with the characters, and overall the story just felt like it was missing a certain spark. I can’t quite put my finger on what that “something” was, but the book fell a bit flat for me emotionally.

If you're looking for a historically grounded romance with a measured pace, this might be a good fit—but if you're craving swoon-worthy drama and strong emotional pull, it may leave you wanting more.

I've loved all the books in this series so far so I was super excited for this one. Plus it seems like this is possibly the last book too. And look at the gorgeous cover!!

First of all, the romance here is top tier. I really loved Selena and Doctor Hornsby. They were so cute and he was so protective of her. Their relationship developed perfectly and made me swoon hard. They were so romantic.

The setting was different for a historical romance but I really like seeing the other parts of London. I don't think I've read many set in London's slums so this was quite the experience. I thought the descriptions were great.

The plot is fast moving and kept me interested.

Truly enjoyed!

I’m just in my historical romance era here at NetGalley. This one hit all the high points of a on the run duchess from her abusive husband. The doctor from the slums who is now a Baron. The insta lust snd love was amazing and both characters being humanitarians
