This is a guide for caregivers based around the book the wizard of oz, and heavily referencing the film adaptation The Wiz. I love most things Oz related so was keen to read this self help book. However no matter how much I love Oz I found this a bit disjointed and didn't understand how a book based around the wizard of oz suddenly had a chapter about Bridgerton (again I love Bridgerton but why was this included?).
It is set out nicely, the chapter about roadblocks (poppies) was interesting with some good tips and it has lots of questionnaires throughout.
Thank you for the chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Journey Beyond the Yellow Brick Road offers a refreshing twist on self-help by pairing the timeless magic of The Wizard of Oz with the deeply human experience of caregiving. Each chapter cleverly ties in themes from Oz—courage, heart, wisdom, and home—making it both accessible and emotionally resonant. I appreciated how the book didn't lecture but rather invited reflection, especially during those heavier chapters that hit close to home. As someone who's been on the edge of burnout, this book gave me both language for my feelings and tools to move forward.

Caregiver Chaos Meets Emerald City Vibes!

Okay, listen up, because this book gets it! Journey Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is like if Glinda the Good Witch had a PhD in emotional intelligence and came to help you sort out your life. I laughed, I nodded like a bobblehead, and I might've cried once or twice (shhh). If you’ve ever felt like you’re spinning in a tornado of caregiving stress—this book is your yellow brick GPS. It’s full of heart, sass, and real-talk wisdom you can actually use. 10/10 would follow this yellow brick road again. 💛✨🧠🥿

**Title: A Clear-Eyed Companion for the Inner Journey**

I've been reading self-help books for more than two decades. Since childhood, I’ve had an almost compulsive need to catalog my inner world—studying myself through every new lens I could find. Perhaps it’s that long-standing habit that made *Journey Beyond the Yellow Brick Road* by Dr. Ebony Green stir such a familiar feeling of delight. I went into this book with low expectations—an occupational hazard of voracious reading—but I was quickly and pleasantly surprised.

Dr. Green knows what she’s doing. She opens with a straightforward, science-based questionnaire that helps readers locate themselves on the path toward healing and growth. Based on your results, you're encouraged to chart your own reading order, picking chapters that align with your specific needs. Each section offers clear, no-nonsense advice that even a frantic mind can latch onto. The flexibility of the structure is part of its genius: the book doesn't just tell you you're in control of your journey—it shows you.

Dr. Green’s tone strikes a difficult balance: she is professional without being detached, compassionate without being overly familiar. It’s the kind of calm, authoritative voice you want to have with you in difficult moments. The clarity and usability of this book make it stand out in a crowded genre.

This is a resource I plan to return to and recommend to others. Like any good map, it doesn’t just show you the road—it makes you feel more confident about walking it.

Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
