Many people, health professionals included, focus on weight as the most important marker for health-but what if we've been lied to this entire time? What if focusing less on weight loss is actually the first step in getting healthier?

"We need to make an important distinction between 'weight' and 'health'."
"Kids exercise all the time, but don't think of it as a chore the way adults do, and they don't call it exercise. They call it play."
This was a great, and quick, read on the emphasis of keeping your body healthy by focusing on the overall feel of your body's functions as opposed to numbers on the scale. I appreciate the acknowledgement of the authors awareness that so many people, including physicians, focus on weight as the primary source of what determines someone's overall health. This book dives into why that should not be the sole focus for anyone. As well as the importance of getting your body moving for more than just weightloss. The author breaks everything down for you to a scientific level of explanation. It's great how they keep it light and avoid that textbook feel through including explanations of personal experiences.
While there were things I read that I had prior knowledge of, in regards to the importance of not focusing on the numbers on a scale, I really loved the scientific break downs that were given in this book. Which is what I was hoping for most before reading this book. I got to learn about chemicals in the body that I didn't know existed and what their function and importance are. I also learned new correlations between a sedentary lifestyle and how it affects the flow of the chemicals in our body. One of my favorite parts of the book, that I found extremely relatable, was the reference to instant gratification in the modern world and how that has had an affect on our bodies and minds. Thank you Koehler Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this wonderfully informative book. All opinions are strictly my own.
