Dead Girls Don’t Talk is a creative and unique spin on a YA thriller. Two girls - one dead and one missing. Two sides - which will you read first?
I loved the idea of this book, but reading it on audio format was very difficult for me. I requested because I love the narrators, but it got to be a bit too much on my brain to follow the story!
ALC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the way this story played out by letting you pick which side of the story you heard first and wanted to believe. The characters were entertaining and interesting. The narrator was great and I loved the cover. 🤩 👻

I was drawn to this book right away because I love a good “whodunnit,” and the premise here is unique—two best friends, a fatal car accident, and two different perspectives that let you choose where to start. You can begin with Syl, who dies in the crash, or with Viola, who disappears afterward, and each side gives you a different lens on what happened.
The concept is really interesting, and I did enjoy the dual structure, but overall the story felt underwhelming. The writing could have been sharper, and I never felt fully invested in the characters, which made some of the reveals land flat. The plot twist didn’t wow me, and certain sections, especially in the middle, felt repetitive. I personally found Viola’s chapters a bit more engaging than Syl’s.
That said, the mystery itself did pull me in enough to keep reading, and I liked the idea of piecing together what happened through two different voices. It’s a quick, easy-to-follow read, and I think mystery fans who enjoy multiple POV storytelling might still have fun with it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

While the concept for this book is fun, and one I rarely see in the mass market... The characters within did not stir anything in me. Therefore, I could not manage to finish the book, which is a shame.
However, the narrator was fine. I do think the concept would work much better in physical format.

This was a quick and entertaining read that I finished in a few hours.
A well written story that kept me hooked from the very beginning.
The characters draw you in and keeps you flipping the pages.
They are realistic and very well developed.
I really enjoyed the writing style. I found myself hooked, turning the pages.
I could listen to Brittany Pressley all day!

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to listen and leave an honest review for this ALC in advance of release.
This 'choose your narrative' - described as a 'flipover' book - tale tells the story of Syl and Viola, the first chapters or so are dedicated to Syl's version of the story, the following Viola's and, finally, the truth.
The concept itself is very interesting but, unfortunately, the characters weren't. They were unlikeable, two-dimensional and, for me, insufferable which made listening to their narratives painful
I would like to read this style of novel again, but not this one, unfortunately.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance audio for early copy for review*
Such an interesting concept and part of me wished I had chose to physically read this instead so I could go back and forth with the perspectives. Listening to it just felt like two stories instead. I also did not fully enjoy the narration and felt confused about who some of the side characters were. Good concept, execution could have been better.

I have never read anything written like this where you can choose whose POV you want to read first and then the whole story comes together at the end! I really enjoyed it and it kept me hooked from the very beginning!

This was just okay for me. its an interesting concept, but I don't think it works as well in audio format. I wasn't a huge fan of the narration either, and I don't think the storyline itself did much beyond that initial 'choose your own adventure' type of angle.

There are two sides to every story...and in this unique format, the reader gets to choose which ones, and in which order, you get to read them.
Dead Girls Don’t Talk is a dark and twisty ride through a toxic friendship gone wrong. Told in a clever dual narrative, Syl and Viola’s story unravels as secrets, jealousy, and betrayal come to light in the suffocating town of Love Hill. The truth hits hard with psychological suspense.

A very interesting take. I liked the aspect that you could choose whose story to start with to get the story. I read it through like a normal book and it was nice to get both sides of the story.

4.5 ⭐
This book was really great. The "who's story will you listen to first" dual narrative was really cleverly done. If you enjoyed choose your own adventure or flipover books as a kid you'll love this more mature version!
The story follows Syl and Viola (teenage best friends who share a birthday) as they recount the last few years of their lives and how they led to Syl dying in a car crash and Viola being framed for her murder. Syl is an innocent pushover trying to complete her exams and get to university. Viola is a manipulator who will do anything to get her own way. The book explores friendship, betrayal, relationships, sexuality and... Of course... The car crash. But not everything is as it seems.
The flipover style left me really doubting my thoughts and our unreliable narrators and really looking forward to hearing the other person's view on key events. The story tying it all together (e.g. how and who they tell their stories to) was very clever and added to the plot. I genuinely did not see the ending (the truth section) coming.
I listened to the audiobook version of this and it was so good. I wasn't sure how the flipover style would work as an audiobook but it guides you through which tracks to listen to depending on who's story you want to hear first. The narration was really good and didn't feel confusing despite all the different characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the ARC.

5 🌟 for the concept
2 🌟 for everything else. What a shame, this has so much promise. But there weee lots of inconsistencies, lots of loose connections. I wish I had dnf’d .
The narration was pretty bad too…..sorry!
Thanks to Brilliance Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ALC 🎧

To start, this book does a great job of hooking you. I loved the opening of the book and the transition into the opportunity of an almost “choose your own adventure” vibe, both POVS definitely kept me interested, so I just listened the whole way through. On that note though, I’ll be honest that I was a bit confused on what the “pros” to choosing to skip one half of the story would be so while I thought the idea was cool, idk how well it was executed via audiobook, it sorta felt unnecessary but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the overall story. All of that to say, I thought it was a fun quick read regardless and one that I’d recommend for for fans of paranormal thrillers. :)

3.5/5

Thoroughly enjoyable but it feels like there’s some missed potential. I love the idea of two different perspectives where the reader chooses which to read first. However, I think this format would be much more effective if they contradicted each other more. While the girls definitely view things differently, both perspectives lead the reader to the same conclusions in my opinion. As a result, whichever view you read second feels a little repetitive and redundant.
The narration was lovely, and I think having different narrators for each viewpoint really helped to differentiate them.

Two perspectives, one is dead and one is alive, but the truth is skewed for both. This book is perfect for YA/NA thriller readers. This is definitely an interesting read and you really can see how each perspective has its "own" truths to it.
Syl and Viola are best friends, until they weren't and when it all came crashing down you see it all explode around them. Syl would say that Viola was her villain, but Viola could say the same thing.
I read Syl's story first and then Viola's story. And while I liked the concept of this, I wasn't fully hooked into this book. But I do still recommend this for the younger readers as a who did what story.
I received an advance review copy audio version. Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing | Brilliance Audio, for the opportunity to listen to this book. Gail Shalan, Brittany Pressley, and Emily Lawrence did an amazing job narrating this audiobook.
