"Acception, Vol. 2" is the second YA graphic novel by Coco Ouwerkerk. Arcus is beginning his sophomore year in high school and of course there is plenty of high school drama. I did enjoy the diversity of the characters and that even the meaner characters were often shown to not be fully bad. Unfortunately most of the topics covered felt very surface level, though I felt the same about the first volume and the teens at our library have absolutely loved it and checked it out, so I'm sure they'll love this one too. A suggested purchase for YA GN collections.

Thank you so much to Webtoon and NetGalley for allowing me to read and enjoy this graphic novel.

I really enjoyed volume 1 so when I saw I was able to request volume 2 I jumped on it. I love how vibrant and colourful the artwork is. I love that we have all types of characters and the reader grows to love them all. We are watching all of these characters grow and learn more about themselves and each other. It’s okay to be who you want to be and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
I’d absolutely recommend this series to all readers.

Cute read, definitely excited to see where this continues to go! Definitely great if you are looking for a quick read that has some deeper themes!

In general, I just really enjoyed this one a lot! There was a lot of queer representation (trans, gay, ace, etc), as well as positive disability representation (a sporty kid with prosthesis as his legs), and—of course—just a general presence of people of all kind.

In basically the first page, we get one of my favorite little moment of hijabi representation—although we see multiple characters wearing the hijab throughout the story, when they show a character who does custom hijab looks! We end up seeing a few example of her art over the next scenes, but in that scene specifically she is showing how she reproduced the main characters hair and that was so heartwarming for me to see; I follow a lot of cosplayers who do just that and the skill necessary is just so impressive and it’s the first time I see them represented in a media I consumed!!

I have read this webtoon when it was coming out—as so many of those getting published before (lol)—and I’m almost certain they added a few scenes which I thought was a nice touch, and really helped shape the characters just a little better.

In general, I found that in this volume the nuance we get is definitely better than in the first one—where I personally found it was a bit missing, so if you were hesitating about picking the second one over that, I would say take the leap! I really appreciate that no character is black or white, especially as this is a story about teenagers. In my opinion, it explore the influence of cliques, peers, and environment, very well; as well as its impact on your development while in a crucial part of your life. You can see them slowly grow and change, and I think that’s very nice. Anyway, this was just a cozy silly little time with a bit of depth hidden in it.

As with the rest of the series, it is kind of over the top with everything, but I really appreciate it for what it is, and what it must be doing for younger people. Just a good time, if it’s your type of story!
