Debra Webb is back with the thrilling third installment in her Vera Boyett series. Its absolutely fantastic! Layered in suspense, secrets keep arising to keep Vera and the Sheriff (Bent) focused. While Bent is called to a triple homicide of a high-profile man, Vera is called to her half-sister's (Luna) home where Luna's mother-in-law is dead at the bottom of the stairs. Pregnant, Luna has no idea how this happened as she was shopping for paint. To complicate matters, Luna's mother-in-law was very unkind and Vera is set on showing the town that Luna had nothing to do with the death. Vera, a crime analyst, is also helping Bent work the triple homicide, and hoping the one surviving victim comes out of her coma to tell the story. Incredibly well-written, with many twists and turns that will keep the pages turning well after bedtime. Debra Webb is a masterful author. A big thanks to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

The local Fayetteville Sheriff, Gray Benton (Bent) and an investigative consultant, Vera, are faced with solving two different murders.

The first, occurs at a local millionaire’s estate, the Wilton’s, where four people have been found. No valuables are missing but the scene is questionable.

The second, is at Vera’s sister Luna’s house. Luna was working on the nursery for her baby with her mother in law (husband Jerome was not home). Luna ran out to grab some more paint and came back and the mother in law was dead, at the bottom of the stairs.

Can Vera solve these two cases before her family is ripped apart?

4.5 stars rounded down.

I didn’t realize this was the third book in a series, but I’ll definitely be going back to read the others! While some context might have added depth and clarity, I was still hooked from the start. The mystery kept me turning pages, constantly eager to see what would happen next and how each character would be involved. The plot felt real and grounded, making the stakes even higher, and the pacing was spot on—revelations came just at the right moments to keep me engaged.

What really stood out, though, were the relationships between the characters. The dynamics were so well-crafted that I was as invested in their personal connections as I was in solving the mystery itself. This book made me a fan of Webb, and I’m excited to read more of her work in the future.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable suspense and, being a Tennessean, I also loved the TN location and references!

Debra Webb returns with another gripping instalment in the Vera Boyett series, and this one’s a knockout. Secrets You Can't Keep is a masterclass in layered suspense, where small-town secrets collide with personal stakes in the most chilling ways.

From the moment Vera is called to investigate a triple homicide at a secluded cabin, the tension is palpable. But what makes this thriller truly compelling is how the professional and personal blur—Vera’s own family is entangled in a separate, equally disturbing mystery. Webb balances both threads with finesse, weaving a narrative that’s emotionally charged and relentlessly paced.

Vera is sharp, intuitive, and deeply human. Her bond with Sheriff Bent adds texture without distracting from the central mystery. And as the cases unfold, the revelations are as satisfying as they are unsettling.

If you love thrillers with heart, grit, and a protagonist you’ll root for every step of the way, this one’s not to be missed.

With thanks to Debra Webb, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

This story had me questioning everyone’s motives from the start. It’s layered with secrets, emotional tension, and just enough grit to keep things grounded. The pacing was spot-on—fast when it needed to be, but never rushed.

A gripping, twisty ride that stuck with me even after I finished the last page.

What a convoluted story! Plenty of intrigue and mystery to keep you engrossed in the book. Hang onto your seat as bodies pile up and it takes dogged detective work with determination to find the culprit!
Debra Webb does not disappoint!

This one was a twisty mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. Two different cases and one involves Vera’s sister. So much suspense and drama to keep you on your toes. Bent and Vera are running around in circles to find the killers with opposition around every corner.

This series is getting better with every new installment. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

💔 Final book feels incoming...

I can’t believe my time with the Boyett sisters is over. Again. How is it possible to feel like you’ve lived through crime scenes, family drama, ghostly whispers, and baby showers with fictional characters? Oh right—because Debra Webb made it so easy to fall in love with this perfectly imperfect trio.

In Secrets You Can’t Keep, Vera is once again neck-deep in murder (actually, multiple murders), with Bent at her side and crime scenes calling her name faster than she can wash the blood off her boots. There’s a chilling triple homicide in the woods that has the whole town buzzing—and Bent needs Vera’s brilliant mind to piece together what others can’t even begin to see.

Meanwhile, sweet Luna’s peaceful little life is shaken when she finds her mean, spiteful mother-in-law dead at the bottom of the stairs. Is it an accident... or the beginning of another deadly unraveling? With Vera in detective mode and Eve listening to whispers from the dearly departed (yes, still the best ghost-whispering mortician in town), the sisters are pulled into yet another tangled web of secrets, lies, and small-town darkness.

But beyond the murders and mayhem, what truly shines is the bond between these sisters. From protecting one another to growing families (Luna’s baby bump alert!) to holding each other up when everything threatens to fall apart—this book is a love letter to found strength, fierce loyalty, and the messiness of being human.

And don’t worry, there’s still plenty of Bent + Vera steam (because saving lives and solving crimes shouldn’t stop the romance, right? 😏).

I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough—and now I don’t want to let go. This series had me hooked from book one and held my heart all the way to the end. Saying goodbye to the Boyett sisters feels like losing friends who’ve been through everything with me—murders, mysteries, and milestones.

If you love stories where the heart is just as important as the homicide, where family sticks together no matter the odds, and where every secret has consequences… don’t miss this.

But be warned: once you enter the Boyetts’ world, you’ll never want to leave. 🖤

Hands down this was my favorite of Vera's series!!!! The two mysteries going side by side had me hooked. And I didn't figure out the killer to the biggest one, which honestly is impressive for me. Vera and Bent finally having some happiness without any drama between them was so refreshing!

Secrets You Can't Keep (Vera Boyett Book 3) by Debra Webb is another wonderful thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very first page and slowly release you at the end that leaves you wanting more. Author Debra Webb knows how to spin a web of a story that entertains and chills at the same time. Vera and Sheriff Gray Benton are an unstoppable couple that can get the job done. I enjoyed this book and can't wait for more. Highly recommended.

Secrets are the name of the game for Valeri Edwin as she enters her boss’s playboy cabin in the woods. Horrendously, she was greeted by a coyote licking his bloody lips. Even more horrific were the three dead bodies she found, including her boss, Thomas Wilton.

His new wife was found among the dead, but she was barely breathing. Her fall appears to be accidental, whereas the others were stabbed to death. Was she, Alicia, a victim of an unspeakable crime spree, or a knife-wielding murderer? The bloody knife lying on the step next to her body speaks volumes.

Sheriff Gray Benton is counting on Vera Boyett to work her magic and solve this crime. It is right down her alley . . . criminal analysis is her forte. But unfortunately, this isn’t the only case Boyett is working on. Her pregnant sister is involved in a mess of her own, and she is appearing guiltier and guiltier as each day goes by. Can Boyett solve both mysteries?

The Secrets You Can’t Keep is the third book in the Vera Boyett series. It is brilliantly written with plenty of twists and turns. Deeper Than the Dead and Closer Than You Know were action-packed mysteries, but this one is the best of the best!

I did enjoy reading the book. it was easy and the story line was clear, I was a bit disappointed with how repetitive the story was and the likeness it has too many other thriller genres already published.

The book was great. I like the writing style. Personally, I don't always enjoy books with sheriffs in them because they can appear cocky, but this was not the case here at all. This book had everything. Love the thriller elements.

This is the third book in the series and I can’t wait for the next one. Bent calls Vera in to help investigate the murder of three people in a cabin in the woods. Also Vera’s sister is in trouble and she is determined to help her out. Lots of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I couldn’t put this one down! Vera Boyett is back and caught up in not just one chilling mystery but two; one that has her whole town on edge and another that hits way too close to home. I loved the twists, the small-town secrets, and Vera’s fierce determination to protect her family no matter what. Debra Webb always delivers a gripping ride and this was no exception. Big thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this!
