I’m a fan of all of Jeff Wheeler’s books, but this book in particular has kept me on edge wanting more! There are so many exciting and unexpected buildup and intricacies in this book that have made it a joy to dive into! I really enjoyed the mystery of the Aisar in this book, and seeing their relationship with humans gradually being brought to light, unveiling exciting revelations about the story and its main characters! I also felt captured by the intriguing inner battle that McKenna experiences and it’s strange melancholy and beauty. Another wonderful book by Jeff Wheeler! I was delighted and taken aback by the twist and turns in this story, and it’s left me wanting more! I can’t wait for the resolution of the series!

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read the book in advance.
I just finished it and I don't know how to express myself properly the great book I just read.
This picks up perfectly after the cliffhanger of book 2 and the pace keeps up the whole book. There's always something happening, I love the world building of this series and how Jeff could even add more to the worldbuilding and the politics and the war on this book.
Isaac Berrow's POV was a good addition. Robinson and McKenna are characters that keep evolving and we can see their growth throughout the books.
Great read and I had no idea this has another book.

Everything I expected…

And yet so much more. What a wonderful continuation of the timeless love story of Robinson and McKenna. The foundation for their story was laid out so well in the first two books. The third book confirmed everything I suspected and believed I knew of this adorable couple and then gave us the why and how of their love story through glimpses of their past. What a beautiful way of portraying a love that has transcended so many lifetimes. I'm truly looking forward to reading the final book in this series. There is so much more coming for this couple. Can they find each other one more time…..

This series of books will be ones I will read over and over. Beautifully executed!

Wow, I feel somewhat dense! The Alchemy of Fate is the third installment of Jeff Wheeler’s fantastically inventive and creative Invisible College series. It ties together a lot of plot twists that now feel quite obvious but for the life of me I am quite surprised by my lack of putting 2+2 together in the prior books.

Jeff Wheeler remains a master of creating immersive but unique worlds to spin his plots. Characters are exceedingly fleshed out and multidimensional. Suffice it to say, I absolutely cannot wait to read the fourth installment of the Invisible College series set to release the same date as The Alchemy of Fate!

To me, Jeff Wheeler's books are like warm comforting soup or home. I can always trust and rely on him to write good, clean stories. It never fails to keep me interested and engaged.

I've read almost all his books and to date, never found them boring. I hope you'll continue to publish novels every year and that you're imagination never stops. Looking forward to that 'warm bowl(s) of soup' every year 🤣

Book 3 was a wow! I did not see that coming! I'm not sure how to leave a review without giving any spoilers but book 3 is just as good as the ones before and I can't wait for the next book to find out what happens with the protagonists and the Aesir.

I have read everything. Jeff Wheeler has written.
I think it's safe to say he is one of my favorite writers.
This book did it again. I was hooked from the beginning. The magic is new and intriguing. I can’t wait to see where this book goes, how the characters grow in their relationships, and their use of magic..

Another fantastic addition to this series. There were some twists I was expecting and some I was not. I am very excited for the last book to see how this all comes together.

Book 3 of the Invisible College series blew me away! I was drawn into book one with its unique world and suspenseful tale. Book two built on this beautifully with new details and plot twists, but book three of the Invisible College series almost immediately became my favorite. This was where the story blossomed to reveal all the intricacies you couldn’t see from the beginning. The story behind the story so to speak. How lucky are we that book four is already available! I cannot wait to devour it just as quickly. I know I’ll be feeling a book hangover when this series ends because I’ll miss this world and its characters greatly. It’s one I would love to see translated to tv.

I must also add this series is where I first encountered the author Jeff Wheeler, and I really enjoy his writing style. The rhythm and flow of his writing never feels disjointed, it’s like cutting through butter with a hot knife. So smooth and seamless. You can envision in your head the scenes he’s describing, all the while getting good character insights, and none of it feels like too many or too few words. There are good stories and there are good authors, when you find both it’s a treasure. I’m looking forward to jumping into his other books.

Book three, the Alchemy of Fate, which would be the ending of a typical trilogy had some amazing revelations and page turning excitement (I'm not going to spoil it!)! I found that I had a few ideas about what was coming after finishing book 2, and some of those ideas were wrong, others were either close to right or right on. Either way, wither my guesses were right or wrong, the twists were awesom. The masterful telling of this story was enjoyable start to finish. I had real trouble putting this book down, and will start book 4 , “The Master of the Royal Secret” as soon as I can!

WHAT?!?!?

Literally that was my reaction this entire book.
So many secrets were revealed.
So many pieces were out together.
So beautifully and cleverly written.
I laughed, cried, and everything in-between because this book was the best rollercoaster.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, frantically devouring the pages until I got to the end.

THE ENDING THOUGH.

I loved and hated every torturous second.

I think the most beautiful thing about this book was seeing everything come together. This intricate tapestry Wheeler has woven in this series finally takes shape and you can see every little breadcrumb he left in books one and two. Every page I felt like I discovered the secrets and mysteries right alongside the characters, the journey was exhilarating.

And the romance. I. Loved. It. Robinson and McKenna FOREVER ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I got an ARC of Jeff Wheeler’s The Alchemy of Fate and told myself I’d be disciplined—read a few chapters Saturday, a few more Sunday. That plan lasted right up until the first plot turn, and then my weekend vanished in a blur of “just one more chapter” until there were none left. By Sunday night, I was sitting there, slightly dazed, wondering what the heck I was supposed to do now?!?

This is the third book in The Invisible College series, and I think it might be the best yet. Wheeler writes like a master puppeteer—except instead of strings, he’s got plot threads and POVs, and you don’t even realise he’s moving them until you’re exactly where he wanted you all along. Just when you’re feeling smug for “figuring it out,” he whips the rug out from under you with a twist that leaves you blinking, grinning, and muttering something like, “Well played, sir.” The turns are sharp but earned, the stakes are higher, and the story pulls you in so deep you half expect to need a map to get back out.

It’s not just about the surprises, though—this is a book full of emotional beats that land, moments of levity tucked between the tension, and characters so real you half expect them to text you updates about what they’re doing while you’re away. The world-building is rich without ever feeling heavy, and there’s a perfect balance between the pulse-pounding moments that make you forget to breathe and the quiet ones that make you pause and feel.

By the end, I wasn’t ready to leave, and I’m still thinking about it days later. It’s smart, immersive, twisty, and completely addictive. If you’ve been following the series, you’re in for something special. And if you haven’t—clear your weekend, hide your phone, and prepare for your chores to be very, very disappointed in you.

The Alchemy of Fate, the third installment in Jeff Wheeler’s Invisible College series, is steampunk fantasy at its finest—blending the atmosphere and social culture of the 19th century with fantastical science, potent magic, immortality, and mysterious intelligences. Wheeler masterfully weaves these elements into a high-stakes adventure where the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Returning protagonists Robinson Hawksley, a gifted sorcerer and inventor of magical devices, and his deaf wife, McKenna Foster Hawksley, plunge directly into the peril left unresolved in The Violence of Sound. Even if you’re new to the series, Wheeler provides enough context to follow along without confusion. Longtime fans will find the characters deeper, richer, and as familiar as old friends.

Reading The Alchemy of Fate felt like hearing the starter’s gun and racing headlong for the finish line. The story shifts between events fifteen years before the founding of the Invisible College and the characters’ present-day struggle. More than once, I found myself tensing when danger loomed, speaking aloud to cheer on the characters, and even crying. The relentless pacing, clever time shifts, and sustained suspense make it nearly impossible to put down. The story offers answers to long-standing questions, along with startling revelations and genuine surprises.

Wheeler explores persistence, loyalty, hope, mercy, and love, while unflinchingly portraying ambition, greed, and revenge. Magic itself becomes a character, its proper use determining whether the world can survive the destructive ambitions of the Aesirs, immortals at war with humanity. True to his style, Wheeler hints at a multiverse bound by universal moral laws, with magic a constant across realms.

The Alchemy of Fate delivers an unforgettable blend of steampunk wonder, philosophical depth, and emotional intensity. It is powerful, immersive, and will leave you eager for the next chapter in the series the moment you turn the last page.

I like the interesting story world, and the main characters are likeable, but this novel moved a bit slower for me, and I was disappointed that the third book didn't wrap up the story.. I guess I anticipated a trilogy, but now we must wait for another book to see how it all unfolds. I miss the Kingfountain and Muirwood worlds.

This may not be the final book of the series, but I would call it the lynchpin.

Fans will be happy to know that the ending of "The Violence of Sound" is addressed early on in "The Alchemy of Fate." The conflict and resolution do a good job of adding tension to the story and ensuring that things don't feel too easy for the protagonists.

I tend to enjoy getting backstory and additional lore in the form of flashbacks as long as they tie into the story well. Jeff Wheeler delivers with some solid chapters that are necessary for the overall story.

The ending is satisfying with a reasonable amount of foreshadowing and resolutions to questions that have come up throughout the series.

This book was so well written! Wheeler’s character arcs are so well built and solid over all the books in this series but especially in this third instalment. Also, the high stakes and epic fantasy aspects of this book made it a really quick read for me!

I really liked the way Wheeler writes the romance in this book. It is well developed over the story and I’m a sucker for star crossed lovers!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Thank you to the author and to NetGalley..

I am enjoying the Invisible College series. I just finished book 3 "The Alchemy of Fate". Jeff has created another new world and characters. Several secrets were revealed in this installment. I can't wait to read book 4: "Master of the Royal Secret".

The third book of Jeff Wheeler’s Invisible College will take your breath away. Rob and McKenna, the protagonists, edge closer to new discoveries about magic in their world, and there are hair-raising scenes as the strannik continues to hound McKenna. Deep secrets of both the Invisible College and the Aesir are revealed, and the reader will be assailed by both heartbreak and hope. This series rachets up a notch with each book and I cannot WAIT to learn what I am sure will be an explosive conclusion in The Master of the Royal Secret. As in all his series, Jeff has built an intricate world in which the reader is swept along with events, unique magics, and unforgettable characters. Make sure you grab these final two books in the series as soon as you can. You will be so glad you did!!!

I really liked this book. The pacing is great and it goes somewhere. It is not your standard middle book acting as a placeholder for books to follow. This is the 3rd book in the series and it brings more depth to the characters than the previous books. The action is much more involved and it ties the characters together in a way that was not done in the prior books. It’s fun, well paced and action packed.

This book takes a direction that makes me concerned on whether the final book will be able to top this one. So much was given and revealed that I’m not sure it can be topped. It left me kind of wanting more but really satisfied at the same time.

Wow… Just wow.

I’m not even sure what to say after finishing this excellent book. If you liked the first two in the series, I think you’ll enjoy this one even more.

Book two ended on a huge cliffhanger, but I was so glad that The Alchemy of Fate tackled it right away—no dragging things out, just straight into the action. From page one, the suspense kicks in and doesn’t let go. Twists, tension, and high stakes all the way through… I could not stop reading!

I especially loved the flashbacks featuring Isaac Berrow—getting more insight into his character added so much depth to the story. The pacing in this third book is the best so far, and it’s officially my favorite in the series.

The reveal at the end? I should have seen it coming—it was building the whole time—but it still caught me completely off guard in the best way. So satisfying!!

Can’t wait for Master of the Royal Secret!

So, to recap...

Pros:
✔ Addictive pacing
✔ Strong plot
✔ Great character development
✔ So many twists!
Cons:
✘ I need book four…NOW!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and 47North for the eARC! And thank you, Jeff Wheeler, for another AMAZING book!
