Life has thrown her unexpected experiences recently, but Kenzie shows us that despite not controlling the circumstances, we can still control how we respond. Still grieving and looking for a different setting to lower her work stress, Kenzie discovers that the nursing position at Camp Madrona isn’t what she imagined. Rather than walk away (after all, she did arrive early), she pivots and sets her mind on using the time away to heal and help. Interacting with Chris helps her heal. By focusing on positive emotions, Kenzie helps herself survive stress and allows her mind to generate more creative solutions to problems. This is a skill she relies on when trouble steps on the island.

I loved the exploration of what we do when things don’t go according to plan and how we give ourselves space to creatively problem solve, as much as I loved watching her heal, being in the very circumstance she wanted to escape from. Salish Island may be the smallest island in Puget Sound, but it had a BIG impact. There’s a lesson in that for all of us.

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

3.5 star my first book by this author.Kenzie coming to work as a nurse at summer camp, turn to nightmare when three fugitives arrive looking for treasure.Held against they will, the camp workers are forced to find treasure or die.

Told from three POV,the terror they feel, the need to survive and outsmart bad guys is very realistic.

Will they find the treasure?
Will all of them survive?

Fast paced and full of suspense and action.

Thank you netgalley and publisher for arc.

well this wasn't the low stress time our character needed was it. but it was just the adventure i wanted. what i liked so much about this book is alike all good books you end up more tense and more in suspense due to the added level of 'caring' about the plot and characters. and that comes from the human moments and human descriptions form authors. they make you feel. and thats what this book gave me.
i was at the edge of my reading seat and didn't mind one bit. the characters were all complex and all bought something to the book as well as did the setting. all mixed together you've got a good book recipe.
we think one thing when we read the blurb and you are already in and excited. but when you read, when you start being delivered the plot you figure that piece by piece there is way more to this.
when Kenzie comes to summer camp she needs healing. work had taken its toll after suffering grief and guilt in her personal life. so a summer camp nurse job seems ideal.
but things dont feel right. things continue with this feeling for Kenzie right through to the campers arrival. then three fugitive descend on the camp, take hostages and give their orders. they are here for a treasure and if they dont get it people will die.
Kenzie thought she was trying to survive before, but now its for real and for whole different reasons. she been broken before, can she muster all her strength to figure out how to survive in a different way? others are at risk. others she cares about and i like how we get to hear from a few of them too when it switches perspectives from Kenzie. its when these other perspective characters all come together that they know they must outwit the fugitives to keep everyone safe.
an book filled with promises from the blurb and delivered every one of them and so much more. i would never wish life and death to bring out someones strength but boy do we see and are inspired by what Kenzie manages to summon within herself. i loved getting to read about her as a characters. she was awesome.

An isolated island. A grieving nurse, struggling to heal. Three desperate fugitives taking hostages. Can she outwit them and survive? Guilt-ridden over the drowning death of her nine-year-old nephew, Kenzie Adams flees her nursing job at a major city hospital to work at a primitive but picturesque island summer camp. Hopefully a few low stress months away from the city will help steer her life back on course. But before the campers arrive, Kenzie’s second chance takes a turn to real life terror. Three determined fugitives invade the island to search for a rumored treasure, and they threaten to kill Kenzie and the staff, including the caretaker’s young son! Wow! Definitely a bit different read! It had suspense, murder, mystery, intrigue and a, action, kidnapping, and some shocking scenes! The story was very interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
