AJ Campbell never disappoints me with any of her books, and this one was, again, no exception. A wholeheartedly deserved 5 stars!

Hannah is excited as the day has finally come where she marries the love of her life, Johnny, she’ll be a princess for the day in her very own fairytale. However, when there’s a hold up at the church and her car is instructed to do a go around, Hannah spies a face from her past and all of her excitement suddenly turns to worry, dread and concern. These feelings come to fruition when Hannah is told by her father in law, Alan, who has agreed to give her away, that Johnny has changed his mind and doesn’t want to marry her. Hannah is distraught and her thoughts immediately turn to the face she saw from her past, Dean Ferguson, a very unpleasant and unsavoury character and so Hannah worries he may be involved with Johnnys no show at their wedding. Hannah wants answers from Johnny, but she can’t find him and almost everyone she talks to, who knows him, seems to be hiding secrets. During her trying to find him she finds little notes from him from just before the wedding; in the bridal suite, in his car, saying how much he can’t wait to be her husband and a dad to her 6 year old son, Lucas, these make his wedding no show even more baffling to Hannah. Will she manage to find Johnny and therefore find out the reason for his sudden change of heart or will she be left with a broken heart and no answers?!

Another great 5 star read from AJ Campbell, and I have so much to say about this book. I always know when I pick up a book by AJ Campbell, I am in for a treat, and I am really pleased that she is slowly getting the recognition she deserves as such a great author. This story very quickly drew me in and also made me lose sleep. I found that very early on I started the “just one more chapter” (a saying that all book lovers will understand) and was finding it difficult to put down. I also really liked the short chapters- as it meant I could keep saying “just one more” many more times 😉. I really felt for Hannah and was really pleased that she had her younger sister, India, for support after being jilted, despite being younger I felt India showed real empathy and support for Hannah and a maturity beyond her years. The one character I really didn’t like was Carrie, Hannah’s older sister. I know that she was getting married to Johnny’s half-brother, Tom, a week after Hannah and Johnny were supposed to be getting married, but I felt she was extremely self-absorbed and came across as a bridezilla who didn’t care a bit about her sister and her little nephew having had their hearts broken in two as long as her wedding happened and was perfect. I have said this before, but I shall say it again, for me I feel it really shows an authors great writing to elicit such a strong emotion from me over a fictional character, so great job AJ Campbell. I have to admit at around 15% I had my feelings about the final twist, and I was delighted to find out I had actually got it right- this doesn’t happen very often. However, I must emphasize that this is almost certainly down to me being an avid reader of psychological thrillers, so my brain is trained that way, rather than the twist being an obvious one because it wasn’t.

Overall, another great psychological thriller from AJ Campbell and I can’t wait to see and read what she writes next. I highly recommend this to any readers who enjoy psychological thrillers, you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley, AJ Campbell and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out 13th August 2025.

I really enjoyed Left at the Altar (Kindle Edition) a fast paced exciting psychological thriller that was an edge of the seat read by A. J. Campbell.

Hannah's big day has arrived when she will become Mrs. Hannah Caxton but unfortunately her husband to be Johnny jilts her at the altar and has gone missing.

The Caxton family and Hannah both have secrets they are not willing to share which will be detrimental to both Hannah and the Caxtons. Hannah will go to any length to keep her young son Lucas safe and well.

I am always delighted to discover a new thriller by A.J.Campbell! I read fewer thrillers these days, but I will alway find time for one by AJ. I find her thrillers offer a wonderful change of pace and guaranteed edge of the seat distraction!

Hannah is heading to the church to get married to the love of her life, Johnny. She has a son, Lucas, from an abusive relationship, but is looking forward to happy times ahead. It’s a bit of a family affair - one of her sisters is marrying Johnny’s brother in a week’s time and Hannah and the brothers all work for the family firm. What could be more wonderful! Except Johnny isn’t at the church and has sent a text message to his brother to say he can’t marry Hannah.. Why has Johnny changed his mind and just where is he? Hannah is determined to find some answers.

Well this was a need to know right from page one. A fast paced, well plotted and gloriously domestic thriller which had me guessing to the end. If you pick this up you won’t be able to put it down! There didn’t seem to be any reason why Johnny wouldn’t turn up, and the more Hannah got digging, the more unlikely this seemed. Weddings are a wonderful plot device with so much potential for family drama and AJ really employs this brilliantly! I loved the domesticity; the houses and homes were so vividly imagined, particularly Johnny’s flat. Hannah’s love for Johnny is so tangible; whilst I was desperate to know what has happened to him, I was also so hoping for a happy ending.

Another great thriller from AJ which kept me thoroughly entertained!

With many thanks to Bookoutre and Netgalley for my digital copy.

First, thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

Another great AJ Campbell, that is all I can say! Here we meet Hannah, who has to experience the nightmare of her husband-to-be Johnny not showing up to the wedding. Is it only cold feet? Did something happen to Johnny? Or might it be all connected to something Hannah did in the past?

Well, you will have to find out yourself. I do promise, with the fast pace of the story and all the twists and turns you are not going to regret reading this book! Very much recommended!

AJ Campbell’s new thriller is fun if a bit predictable.

Hannah gets left at the altar by her rock steady loving finance Johnny. She only hears from him via text and just knows something is wrong.

His family seems unfazed although her sister is marrying Johnny’s brother in a few days also. Hannah just knows Johnny is in trouble and she thinks it’s all her fault. Yup, she has secrets.

The ending (although I wasn’t exactly surprised by it) was fun and made Left At The Altar a worthy read overall for me.

I’ll always read this author’s thrillers. This one wasn’t my fave of hers but I did enjoy it. I flew through it and it’s an easy read.

3.5 ⭐️✨ here. Appreciate my early copy.

AJ Campbell has done it again!!!
When Hannah is left at the altar by Johnny, she starts to suspect there is more to it than him just changing his mind about marrying her.
Meanwhile, Hannah's secret past is catching up with her. Maybe Johnny found out what happened!!??
But Johnny is avoiding all contact with her and is only in contact with his brother. But things really don't add up and she will do anything to find out the truth and protect her son.
This book got me hooked from the start. An absolute page turner, with twists and turns that keep the reader completely engaged. I read it in 2 days!! Brilliant!
Probably AJ's best book yet!!!
Can't wait for the next one!!!

Hannah is shocked when she finds out her fiance Johnny has left her at the altar. No note or anything. She receives a text saying she is better off without him. She believes that it is her fault and a secret from her past that he has left her. Will the truth come out or can she protect her son.

Another fast-paced domestic thriller by AJ Campbell, but sadly this wasn’t my favorite of hers. It still held my attention and I read through it quickly, but I felt like I wasn’t as bought into these characters as I have been in some of her other books. Some twists were predictable and some weren’t so overall a decent thriller read.

Hannah is looking forward to the best day of her life when she marries her partner Johnny. But Hannah is completely blindsided when she discovers that Johnny hasn't shown up and has done a runner. With someone from Hannah's past making a appearance she is instantly suspicious. Well the plot just flows beautifully through the short and sharp chapters. You feel like you are second guessing yourself at each and every turn. The characters begin to feel like friends or enemies and you can't trust anyone. One of the best physcological thriller authors has done it again and created a brilliant tale to keep you on your toes.

It was going to be Hannah’s perfect day, the day she will marry the love of her life, Johnny, and become a family with her son from a previous relationship, Lucas. She’s got her gown on, she’s waiting at the church…and then she gets the news from Johnny’s brother, Tom. Johnny called him and said he couldn’t go through with the marriage; he felt trapped and needed some time to himself.

Hannah is beside herself. How can this be? He is like a father to Lucas. They’ve lost a baby together. They’ve already put a plan in motion to sell Hannah’s house and buy a new one. When she gets back to the hotel, she heads into the rose-strewn honeymoon suite alone and finds a gift and note from Johnny, calling her his wife and saying he’s so happy to spend the rest of his life with her. Why would he leave those things if he had cold feet?

Luckily, her sisters India and Carrie are there for her, but there are two problems: India showed up with a man named Dean, a man Hannah knows all too well. Do Dean’s appearance and Johnny’s disappearance have anything to do with each other? Also, Carrie is engaged to Tom, so either way Hannah is now stuck with this family. As the focus moves to Carrie and Tom’s wedding, Hannah can’t shake the feeling that something is really wrong. None of this makes sense.

The mystery of where Johnny went is quite good, and the two families are quite interesting together. Chapter cliffhangers made the book more suspenseful, and there were a lot of great surprises and twists. I did figure out the ending, but with plenty of red herrings, I wasn’t sure if I was right until I read it. This is quite a good domestic thriller and a quick read! Four stars.

(Thank you to Bookouture for inviting me on this book’s tour! “Left At The Altar” is slated to be released on August 13, 2025.)

Left at the Altar by AJ Campbell
The summer of thrillers continues. Holy buckets. This was intense and twisted in ways I did not anticipate. I adore how AJ tells a story, and she brings such intensity to her plot.

I enjoyed how this story unfolded. The plot was complex and twisted, with so many possible directions. I did not know who was doing the shady things until the reveal, and I was shocked.

This story is filled with dynamic emotions and deeply impactful scenes. You cannot help but step into Hannah’s shoes throughout this book. The things this woman went through and the things she survived are incredible.

I do wish we had gotten a bit more insight into the things the sisters said about Hannah’s past regarding her mental health. There were some throwaway statements made about “being crazy” or “it happening again” that I would have loved some clarification on. But these tidbits did not take away from the plot at all.

I love that AJ writes such strong female characters, especially mothers. She is a proud mama bear, infusing every mother character with those beautifully strong traits.

This book kept me guessing until the end. I couldn’t read fast enough. I am always so impressed with AJ's talent. Her books are deviously written and have excellent plots. This book will keep you awake at night!

Left at the Altar is the second book I’ve read by AJ Campbell and it was another outstanding read. This author has a way of pulling you right into the story from the very beginning. Gripping and tension filled the whole way through this is one book I struggled to put down. Brilliant cast of characters and short snappy chapters which I love in a thriller. A fast paced read with plenty of twists and turns right up to the very end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is my 2nd A.J. Campbell book and she is definitely a thriller author i need to read more of. This one starts out with a bang and takes you on a twisty dual POV through Hannah's tragedies.

Johnny is missing, others start popping up dead and it may all tie back to seven years before.
It seemed a little repetitive throughout the middle, but i started to guess who the culprit was toward the end. I loved how it ended though, didnt see the last twist which made this one so good.

The story started strong and held my attention through every twist. The mystery unfolded clearly, with surprises that felt natural and made me want to keep reading. I enjoyed following along with the characters as they tried to piece things together.
The family drama gave the story extra depth. It wasn’t just about secrets or solving a mystery — it was about how those things affected the people and their relationships. The emotions and tensions between them felt real and added weight to what was happening.

The pacing moved between tense moments and quieter scenes that gave space to think about the story and the characters. The characters themselves felt real, with flaws and hopes that made their experiences feel authentic. I cared about what happened to them as people, not just as parts of the plot.

Details mattered throughout the story. Small moments and interactions connected in a way that made the relationships and history feel important. The way past and present came together gave the story a sense of life and continuity.

Hannah is on her way to her wedding to Johnny when she spots her sister India with a man she thought she'd left in the past, Dean Ferguson. Hannah is sure that he's showing up at her wedding to taunt her but she tells herself to focus on her big day. Suddenly, her father-in-law tells her the news no bride-to-be ever wants to hear: Johnny is leaving her at the altar. Hannah's son, Lucas, is devastated that Johnny doesn't want to become his step-father. Hannah is determined to find out what's really happened to Johnny. Did he really have a change of heart? Is her past finally catching up with her? Where is Johnny?

I absolutely lover Left at the Altar. It was a fun read. I loved how visual the story was, it was as if I was right there and then witnessing it all. The book was a literal page-turner. The chapters were brief and to the point, most ended in a mini cliff-hanger. By the time I was at 50% I knew I was going to read this in one sitting because I had to know what was going on.

A solid 5-star!

Oh. My. Gosh.
What a book!
This book took me a little over a day to read as I really struggled to put this down. The chapters are short and snappy, which makes thinking "oh just one more chapter" so easy and before you know it you've read loads more chapters and it's silly o'clock in the morning 🤣

This book was brilliantly written to build suspense, and is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing right til the very end. This book beautifully integrates the mystery with a heartbreaking story of a woman Left At The Alter...

I will absolutely be picking up more of A J Campbells book in the future. This is a no brainer for me now!
