She Of the Shadows is so dark, but there is this minuscule sliver of light that is threaded through the entirety of the book like Kintsugi.
We have followed Lovely from the very pits of hell, despair, and addiction. Clawing her way back from the torment within her soul, she finds her way back to her oldest friend, but now can he see her as anything other than the broken girl he loves?
Toni always let her go. He’s never fought to save her. That is over, now he’s ready to fight everyone and everything that gets in his way, even Lovely herself.

This series as a whole can be very hard to read for those of us who have been touched by addiction, but I really do subscribe to the theory that while you can support others, people need to save themselves.
They need to know they CAN save themselves more than anything.
That they want to be saved.
That they are worthy of being saved.
It is a perfect example of how someone faced with a bleak reality can still find a way to carve out happiness for themselves. It may not look exactly how you imagined, but sometimes it can be even better.

In a word, this book stands for Hope

She of the Shadows is Book 2 in a romantasy duet. It's a dark romance - please check triggers before reading.

This is the story of the FMC, Lovely, who has become a Fury to be able to return to her man, a Ferryman who exists between the two worlds of the living and the dead. Lovely is dark and haunted, not your typical sunshine-y or even strong and fierce FMC. But even as she succumbs to the darkness to chase the Ferryman, she pulls herself back and builds herself up again.

The world-building is beautiful and at times haunting, and Lovely's journey is soul-shattering but incredible to read. A great finale to a great duet and a pleasure to read.

She of tthe Shadows by Kerry Williams is a emotional triumph of a sequel that exceeded the expectations I had after Daughter of the Drowned. Book one was simply foundation that didn't quite grab me, but I took a leap of faith with this one and man it SOARS with more myth, emotion, and a heroine stepping into her power.

You'll have to read it to find out, but its unforgettable. The journey is raw, berautiful, and empowering. Growth was EARNED.

Charon... His slow burn was everything. The romance was not about spice, but there was pleanty of tension. It was about connection and yearning. And that was more satisfying.

The mythological worldbuildign was gold. It was complex and beautiful. l

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this duology conclusion that I may not have finished and gotten this experience without!

🌟Bear rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (6 STARS)
Some books ask you to feel. This one demanded it.
I didn’t just read She of the Shadows,I was claimed by it. In one day of being absorbed entirely by reading this! From the very first page, Kerry Williams doesn’t ease you in, she pulls you under. This Lee doesn’t drown. She rises. As a Fury. As a soul who’s burned, broken, and still dares to love. The emotional heaviness of book one deepens into something sharper here, more mythic, more urgent. The underworld is no longer a looming mystery. It is a place you ache for. And the Ferryman? My heart is not my own anymore. Charon holds it. “Be my Fury” became a promise. And in this book, that promise erupts.
Lee’s pain doesn’t vanish,it evolves. She becomes more than what tried to bury her. Watching her take up space, power, and purpose had my chest cracking wide open. The yearning in this book? Exquisite. Devastating. Holy. It’s not just a slow burn romance -it’s a soul-bond pulled taut across realms.
Let it be known: this is not a spicy book. It doesn’t need to be. The tension is all-consuming in its own right. A single look, a moment of weakness, those will undo you more than pages of heat ever could.
Spice rating: 🌶️. But emotionally? Infinite burn.
This book didn’t just hold me - it haunted me. And I’ll be haunted happily, forevermore. The minute I can have physical copies of these treasures, they will be at the top of my shelf! While most are unable to ever escape the Ferryman, I don’t think he can ever escape ME.

Thank you to NetGalley, Hot Tree Publishing, and Kerry Williams for the opportunity to read and share an honest review of this breathtaking finale. 💫

Oh I’m so happy I gave book two a chance!! Lovely really comes full force into the person she is meant to be! I love her storyline. Fury, mother of Wraiths and another title you will have to read to find out!! Slow burn romance and I would say zero spice on my scale with closed door scenes. But still worth it for the plot, if you have read the first definitely read this one!! PS I don’t think I would have forgiven her friends for what they did but Lovely would!

In She of the Shadows, Lovely Timms has clawed her way back to the land of the living — but not without consequences. Now a Fury caught between life and death, haunted by the Ferryman who marked her soul, she’s forced to choose between the world she died for and the one that might need her more.

This is the kind of book that wraps you in fog and keeps its grip. The writing is moody and lyrical, with rich gothic undertones and moments of genuine emotional weight. There’s a tragic beauty to Lovely’s journey, especially in the way the story explores identity, vengeance, and belonging. And if you love a tortured, magnetic love interest who lurks at the edge of every scene? You’ll be well fed.

My only minor wish was for a bit more narrative focus — but the atmosphere and emotional depth still carried it through.

Darkly romantic and drenched in haunting vibes, this is a satisfying end to The Darkness Duet.

💀🔥

Powerful and endearing, atmospheric and exciting, memorable and loved, She of the Shadows definitely found its place in my heart.

The second book picks up right where the first left off. It was a great conclusion of the duology, this Underworld journey even better and more inspiring than in the first book. I loved watching Lovely's character shining healing as well as the development of amazing side characters I'd never known I'd be so interested in.

The unique Greek mythology based worldbuilding continues to amaze, entwining with the world of the living. Charon returnes all of alluring shadows, seducing and enticing as never. He envelopes you in the darkness and guides your and Lovely's spirits all through the book. I fell fully in love with him here. We also get a perfect slow burn trope, stratching and satisfying.

All in all the book provided the perfect plotting of changes of the Underworld, Lovely's exiting interractions with Charon and the beautiful ending.

Well.... I have no words.

This was such an interesting and (didn't see it going this way) ending that really made sense and Lovely was written so brilliant. From book 1 until the ending here, I just loved her growth and her strengths. Such a unique and clever way to show strength.

Incredible. I'm entirely torn apart and blown away.

I loved the first one, so this one had a lot to live up to, and it did a good job of that. The story was intriguing, and I loved the found family (won't say who to prevent spoilers).

Unique and beautifully told emotional story.

I decided not to finish this one. The characters were taking off clothing on page 2. I don't mind sex, but I like a little plot building up to that point, and this isn't that book. I do not plan to post a review to goodreads or anywhere else, both because I didn't finish it, but also because I don't like to put bad ratings on books merely because they contain things that aren't to my preferences. I think bad ratings are for non-preference issues such as major plot holes or similar and as far as I know, this book isn't that. Therefore, I plan to put a 5 star rating so as not to detract from a book that just didn't appeal to me but probably would to others.
