Continuing from book 1. Fleur is separated from her husband and wants the marriage to be over, but he continues to give her a hard time, hoping she will take him back. She is more comfortable with Bastien but is still scared that he will decide she isn't worth his time. Bastien has never wanted a woman like he does Fleur, and in his way, shows her how he feels, but will not press her. He wants her to decide what she wants when she is ready, but all he wants to do is keep her safe and as close as possible. Trapping her, though, is not the way to do it, and he knows that. His life is dangerous and complicated. If she cannot handle it, he will make peace with that and let her go, even if that is the last thing he wants to do.

This was left on somewhat of a cliffhanger. It was intense, and Fleur may decide that this life is not for her. Bastien's work is dangerous, and being connected to him also puts her in danger. In the short time they have been together, their relationship has been fast-paced and hot. Time will tell what happens with this couple. The rivalry between Bastien and his brother is strained, and it doesn't seem like that will get better.

This is the second installment of the Fifth Republic series. In this Maya series, Fleur and Bastien are still an item and Fleur is working on her divorce from Adrian. I liked this book but not as well as the first. 4 stars

This audio was so good! It flowed nicely and the narrators did a great job!

I am really enjoting this series even tho it’s not my normal kind of read. There is smut but also a plot which I always love.

This was much better than the first in the series imo. It delivered all the danger and suspense you'd expect from a dark mafia romance with slightly less spice than the first. The characters felt more layered this time and the stakes were higher in a way that kept me interested. Like the first book it does end rather abruptly but I’m honestly intrigued to see where the story goes next.

My first read of this ended in a DNF and I wanted to listen the audiobook but I was bored on my trip so I ended up reading it in less than 3h which is good !!
